When Julian's mentor urges him to accept an invitation to study the dying sand of Valeria, all he sees is another assignment. Valeria's ban on romantic and sexual unions seems a trivial price to pay in the name of scientific progress; even the constant supervision by the Sisters, the advanced A.I. that runs Valeria, seems a negligible point.

When the situation proves to be

Julian goes to Valeria hoping to study the dying sand of this planet but gets more then he expects when he gets there. There are so many rules you must follow on this planet and one of those rules is no sex what so ever which Julian finds it hard to follow this rule once he meets Saidin. The sisters who rule this world are cruel. One thing is clear to Julian is things must change because it is not fair for the Aliens that live on Valeria to be treated like they have been.
I have to say I really

I picked this one up because it sounded interesting, and I already had some success with Less Than Three Press.

This is the saddest loneliest book I’ve read all year. It is also well written, lyrical, and deeply introspective. We spend a great deal of time in Julien’s head, and while I can’t say I precisely enjoyed it as there was too much misery in the events, but I found myself deeply empathizing with this character. Saidin was much more of a cipher, as we are never in his head and only learn o

I received this book as an ARC though NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. I found the concept interesting, but the execution didn't live up to the concept. I found the writing to be awkward, and stilted. There was too much information dumping, and so many of the major plot points relied on coincidence, or things happening in just the right way at the right time. It felt very heavily staged, and it left me feeling disconnected, and uninterested

2016 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: The Forbidden Zone by Victoria Zagar
This book has an interesting plot with plenty of surprises to keep the reader engaged and wanting to know more. The characters are well fleshed out I really liked the way the MC's emotional development grows throughout the story.

L*O*V*E*D IT!

Sometimes one has 'to boldly go where no man has gone before' to experience life, to find love and to understand the meaning of sacrifice!

The Forbidden Zone is so much more than a Human falling in love with an Alien ; it's also Humans war against the machines and it's about the meaning of life.

This is a gripping and well written Action/Suspense/Adventure Sci-Fi novel with a great world-building. It takes place in a very bleak future on the planet Valeria with rather perplexing Al

This book is one of the best I've read on netgalley so far!

The Forbidden Zone is a sci-fi dystopian exploration of space and what exactly "intelligent life" means. Victoria Zagar has written a very interesting look into what it means to be human and what happens to humans placed under the same rules placed on machines. Zagar's writing style evolves through the novel with the development of Julian's character.

Now, despite my overwhelmingly positive reaction to this story, I almost stopped readi

A Joyfully Jay review.

3 stars

The Forbidden Zone was, at times, a fascinating fantasy, and at other times a jumbled collection of concepts and characters that failed to achieve their full potential. The book is written well enough from a technical stand point, but the pacing leaves a lot to be desired. Everything moves too fast or is dragged out far longer than it should be. As a result, I often became frustrated with the plot and the awkwardly rambling nature of the story. It started off strong
