The Gate: Journey to the New World

The Gate: Journey to the New World is an exciting tale of two best friends, separated by a fated journey. As the two young girls are wrenched apart, one is thrown into another world, while the other is left alone in reality. Evanley tumbles through nothingness, only to be pitted against teens her age, a tyrannical leader, and a collection of monsters that will stretch your imagination. Meanwhile, in the real world, Jadelyn finds herself bewildered and alone, something she fears more than anything. She is forced to face a violent, daunting change in her heart, mind, and soul that leans toward a darkness she has never experienced before. When the pieces fall together in the end, it will blow your mind. You never saw this plot coming, because it’s not just a paranormal book.

The Gate will take you on a journey you will not expect. The visuals of the paranormal world in this story will have you feeling the heat of it—the blistering sun, the lack of water, the desperation in the air. It will have you wondering if there is a way out, what is going on, where are they, who are these people. Then, when you find out, you never saw it coming. Furthermore, the emotions in the “real world” will have you feeling the insecurity of a teenage girl, and all the evil that one has deep inside.

Evanley and Jadelyn are both on separate journeys, burdened by circumstances they never thought they would have to face. Evanley’s is out of this world, while Jadelyn seems to be battling high school solo … but that’s not all she’s facing.

When the pieces fall together in the end, it will blow your mind. You never saw this plot coming because it’s not just a paranormal book.

As an avid sci-fi/fantasy reader, I was really intrigued by the synopsis of this book. It definitely sounded like more than a regular paranormal, and it really was.

I was impressed with how the author shows two girls going through the pitfalls of being teens, even in extraordinary circumstances, and absolutely did not see that ending coming.

I really can't wait to see more from this author.

The author did a great job telling this exciting story from the perspective of two very different girls, who also happen to be best friends! Each character's voice was distinct and it was easy to switch between the two many characters. There are great lessons of finding your inner strength, controlling your emotions, and appreciating what you have in life. I cannot wait to read this with my teenage boys! Looking forward to a sequel.
