Thank you to NetGalley, the author, Holly Martin and the publisher, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Welcome to the charming seaside town of White Cliff Bay, where Christmas is magical and love is in the air…
Penny Meadows loves her home – a cosy cottage decorated with pretty twinkling fairy lights and stunning views over the town of White Cliff Bay. She also loves her job as an ice-carver, creating breathtaking sculptures. Yet her personal life seems frozen.
When Henry and daughter Daisy arrive at the cottage to rent the annex, Penny is determined to make them feel welcome. But while Daisy is friendly, Henry seems guarded.
As Penny gets to know Henry, she realises there is more to him than meets the eye. And the connection between them is too strong to ignore…
While the spirit of the season sprinkles its magic over the seaside town and preparations for the ice sculpting competition and Christmas eve ball are in full swing, can Penny melt the ice and allow love in her heart? And will this finally be the perfect Christmas she’s been dreaming of?
If anyone had told me that I'd be reading a Christmas themed book in August, I would have laughed them out of my life - with a few choice words no doubt. Who wants to be thinking about Christmas in August?!
However, the unthinkable happened, and when my Twitter feed started showing these wonderfully colourful and animated GIFs depicting a book by Holly Martin called 'Christmas At Lilac Cottage'. I was immediately drawn to them, scrambling to find out who this author was, and more importantly, where I could get a hold of this book.
I loved this book, I really did. I literally devoured it in one sitting; the story flowed so well. I got caught up in the blossoming romance between Penny and the devastatingly gorgeous Henry. I loved the character of Penny, who is so warm and kind, that it’s really quite difficult not to love her. The characters were a great mix all round, with just the right amount of humour thrown in to elicit a good few giggles along the way.
This book was very well written indeed. It’s the first time I’ve ever encountered Holly Martin, but it definitely won’t be the last. A book absolutely bulging at the seams with feel good factor, it’s actually gone a long way to preparing me for a season I normally face with dread and some amount of anguish. Romance is not usually a genre that I would choose to read, but this book seemed to have a little of everything else, which balanced it out very nicely.
A highly enjoyable and recommended read.
