Recommends it for: Romance fans
She closed and locked the door, letting out her breath in a whoosh. He was barefoot. Wearing an apron. In her kitchen.

It's true what they said about porn: "you know it when you see it."

Occasionally I wander through Amazon and pick up a free, self-published e-book. Just to see what's up. Usually, this is an unmitigated disaster. See: The Big, Not-So-Small, Curvy Girls, BBW Romance, Dating Agency. ANYWAY. These tend to be romances and if they are about a heroine who is in some way marginalized, so

Yes I know! I should not be reading books at work but I couldn't do anything else, I'm not a fan of easy read chick flick sexy romance books but what can I say? Sometimes when you need to let go it's the best distraction, it makes you forget everything.
I liked the heroine, the fact she was not athletic and she hated working out, her stubbornness, and I liked the storyline and well I'm not gonna pretend I didn't like the love scenes. I usually skip those, they're too graphic but not this time. I

I wish I could give this book negative stars!

First off, in no way was this book funny. The really wasn't any romance in it either, so I have no idea why it is called a romantic comedy.

Secondly, the hero was so unlikable!
He was constantly telling her that she needed to exercise. He was so bitter that the company wasn't left to him. Even in the end, he still was obsessed with the company.

The heroine was just as unlikable. She was weak minded and when she did stick up for herself, she sounded

Beverly Lewis, known as Bev, is a preschool teacher who does not like being told what to do but more often then not, lets people walk all over her. Bev's family is hardly close-nit, in fact a family grudge has kept her from ever getting to know her mother's side of the family. When Bev's grandfather, who she has never met, dies, she is surprised to learn he left her the family business, a fitness wear line, located in San Francisco. Under the impression she is going to bring her mother and aunt ...more

There was nothing intrinsically wrong with this book - it just didn't really match the blurb.

Bev inherits a fitness clothing company from her grandfather, who she has never seen. No-one seems to want her to stay, not her aunt, not the super-hot Executive VP, not her mother, father, brother or sister, not her staff.

The blurb made it sound as though Bev was a plus size woman who single-handedly turns around the business and/or recognises the talent within the business and gives it free rein. In

There seems to be some promise here. Patches of the book were good. I loved the bit where Bev went on about her dental hygiene routine in the same way people go on about their workouts. I just couldn't buy her optimism about bringing the family together. I couldn't work out why she would give any of them the time of day.

I'm trying to think of something positive to say about liam but I've got nothing. I couldn't see the attraction and couldn't find the chemistry. Yet there was a spark of

2.5

An okay way to pass one or two afternoons, Love Handles is a light contemporary romance with some drama thrown into the mix. The family drama part is a bit forced and the resolutions to almost all the issues in the story end up unbelievable. There is some suspense here too.

Bev is constantly told she has to exercise, she has to start being careful with her body and whatnot. And she doesn't think too much of how she looks. Actually, she thinks she has a big ass, among other things. Now, let me

I started to read this based on May's book of the month on one the chick lit reading groups. I intended to make it last the whole of May but once I started to read it, I couldn't put it down. This happens a fair amount as I love to read and don't get as much time as I would like, so I have bursts of lots of reading and then months of nothing. But i could not out this book down because I fell in love with the characters so quickly.
The main character was impressive in her niceness and naivety but

The blurb for Love Handles hinted at so many of my favourite chick-lit features, that I could not resist this book when I came across it. It's based on my favourite trope, the enemies to lovers tale; the heroine is underestimated by everyone around her, but regardless, she's strong enough to believe in herself; the ex-Olympic swimmer hero promised to be as sexy as hell; and the blurb promised sex scenes, which, quite frankly, I find hard to go past.

Love Handles did not disappoint. The enemies

Oopsie. I forgot to review it, didn't I?

A couple of highlights.
feeling ancient at thirty.

“Oh?” A lot of unforgiving ice packed into one word.

I forget to highlight as I get immersed in the story.

Like all rom-coms, it started on a terrific note. Bev and Liam are so adorable in the beginning. Bev is curvy and she is proud of it. And I am proud of you, Bev.

The middle of the story was a tad bit boring. The suspense about the late grandpa was done nicely.

3.25 stars, I would say.

To say I can't get enough of Gretchen Galway is an understatement. Hands down she is one if my favorite authors. Her characters are real. I love opening a book to find the main character to be absolutely normal size! Ms Galway mixes it up and turns up the heat creating scenes you hope never end. Fantastic dialogue and banter make you cancel appointments and forget deadlines so you remain engaged with the characters.

What a fun story! Grandfather leaves his crumbling business to his granddaughter and the fun begins. She's a former nursery school teacher, he's a former Olympic swimmer. Together they try to resurrect the business. Romance, mystery, and crazy family make it very interesting. I never saw the ending coming, what a twist!

What a fun, contemporary romance story. At times I would get frustrated at the way the two main characters, Bev and Liam try and fight the feelings that they have for each other, but all in all I loved the way the story panned out.

I need to get me some Liam in my life....

I would highly recommend this book.

I only got through half of this book. By that point I was hating ALL the characters but especially the two main ones. They were either too "welcome mat" wimpy or too manipulative. So irritating. Plus there was too much descriptive sex already in just the first half.
Susan Buchanan
I really enjoyed this book, but it's a 3.5 star from me, as the cover I purchased it based on was more of a romantic comedy cover, but it's actually more romance, which I don't enjoy reading so much. That said, it was good, and I would read more by this author.
Larissa Reinhart
I enjoyed Love Handles and both the hero and heroine and Galway's first Oakland Hills book. I have to admit, I bought it thinking it was Chick lit, not contemporary romance. (I think it was slotted that way in a Bookbub ad). Once I figured that out and adjusted the steamier scenes, I really enjoyed it a fun escape, which I read quickly. The setting of a fitness clothing maker was interesting and the final twist wasn't what I expected.

This is not your typical love story. Bev has never had it easy. Her family is a nightmare and no one gets along. When Bev's grandfather dies she learns that he has left his struggling fitness wear company to her, someone he had never met. Not only is this the last thing that she wants to take care of, but it soon causes more problems than she ever had working as a preschool teacher.

The characters are well developed in this book. They intertwine nicely and it makes you feel like you could

This was one of those books that I just love to get lost in. It was sweet and simple but not boring. At times I found myself really frustrated with Bev's family and how manipulative and naive they were. Even towards the end when things started falling into place I wanted Bev to give them each what they deserved, which was nothing, but the author must be a better person than I because she made sure that Bev did what was right instead of just what was easy.
I really, really loved Liam. He could be

This book annoyed me to no end. The MC was weird. Either it was her or everyone around her but I didn't understand why everyone kept giving her such shit if she was supposedly this smart sweet girl? Everyone in her family keeps telling her that she can't handle the company but she's supposedly a graduate of UCLA. Not exactly a cake school to get into. And Liam..I never saw the draw. Yes he was hot but the fact that he acted like a dick the entire book made me wonder why we were supposed to be ...more

4.5 stars!

The reason it’s not a full 5 stars is that it got a bit convoluted at the end and also the reason the H/h fight was not convincing, especially on Liam’s side. I honestly still don’t get what he was insecure about or afraid of from Bev. That being said, this couple was sizzling and well matched..Liam was dreamy and sexy and Bev, although a people pleaser, was smart and capable.

A very enjoyable read! I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

So So Book

I liked this book, but I didn't enjoy it. I just couldn't like the main character, Bev. She struck me as silly and scatterbrained. Too much fluff and not enough meat to the story. I'm sorry but I can't recommend this book.

This book was really good. I read it in 1 day.
Liam and Bev are great together. There's plenty of humor and sexual energy. I have to say Bev's family are a bunch off assholes though!

Smiles and positive energy DO Work!!

I like this book but didn't love it

I think because all through the book the hero& heroine didn't connect for me. Chemistry yes but something didn't quite gel for me.
Claire - The Coffeeholic Bookworm
Recently unemployed Beverly Lewis inherited her grandfather's sports fashion business Fite Gear, but she had no intention of keeping it afloat. She was supposed to accept her aunt's offer to buy her shares and sell the company, but a good-looking Olympic hottie and her grandfather's protégé convinced her that she could revived Fite. Everyone at the office were feeling discouraged and unconvinced. It was a You and Me Against the World kind of problematic dilemma that they had to go through, but ...more

I wanted to love this book, and sadly it just did not happen for me. I was only interested in what was happening about half the time, as there just didn't seem to be much going on.
I think the authors writing was fine, but the characters and plot was lacking. I realized about halfway through that this book just wasn't doing it for me, but I wanted to finish it for the sake of giving it a fair chance.

This book was advertised to me as being a " plus size romance" but then the main

Well that was a quick fun silly read. Nothing like a romance novel to clear the palate after you read something weird. Also a tale from the garment industry, where I worked briefly, so that was personally interesting to me. The characters were very interesting and (mostly) likeable. Of course, because it is a romance novel you have to deal with a certain amount of stupidity and miscommunication. Predictable - but that's what a romance novel is all about - predictability. It's comfy like an old ...more

I did finish and skipped pages only towards the end which counts... in general, the book was very hard to read and I kept thinking: I must be missing loads of the story. No the main characters behaved erratically and it was all a mess. Truthfully, don't read this book, there wasn't anything comic in it and you would only get headache.

I was expecting this book to be funny and inspiring in a way but it was really a let down. It had so much potential but the plot got entirely lost with sexual overtones and don’t even get me started on the physical descriptions of the main character...
