Gaston' the Green-Nosed Alligator, the Deep South's most celebrated children's book character, is off on another adventure, this time to cowboy country. Taken in by a group of rough-looking cowboys, he learns firsthand the difficult life of a cowboy on the range, but he meets the challenge, winning the grudging respect of his fellow cowhands.
I love the James Rice books about Louisiana and Texas - they are perfect for story time, with their rhyming stanzas and always cute, funny i!! llustrations. This one is particularly good, because it isn't limited to a certain season - well, hurricane season, but you can read stories about that anytime - not like a Christmas story, is what I mean. And the novelty of a big storm blowing a gator out to west texas where he becomes a cowhand - well, there's plenty that is funny about all that. Read it aloud to whomever will listen, and you will all have fun!
