Alright – this review has been a long time coming!

The Virgin Diaries is a quick, easy read that only took me a couple of days to finish without feeling like I spent the entire two days reading. Just a few hours here and there and I flew through it. A nice break from the heavier novels I usually read.

The hopeless romantic in me enjoyed this story. Throughout the entire book, I was always clinging on to the fateful moments where Abby and Jade would be together and those moments were cherished. The

I read an advanced copy of this novel.
I cried through a lot of it, but even though the ending wasn't the one I had expected, like in life, it ends happily, my criteria for a five star book.
Abby is not the typical romance heroine, older and less experienced, but I think if we admit it, more true to life. Not every woman has the high school/college love story, for whatever reason, and this book is perfect for women in that boat. Jade, sigh, Jade will hold a place in my heart forever. Perhaps becau

Review written for and published by Portland Book Review on September 24th:

Abby is a twenty-nine-year-old virgin, but not because she doesn’t want to have sex – it’s too painful for her to try. Fed up with being smothered by her overbearing mother, a boyfriend who doesn’t understand her, and of letting her anxiety disorder drive everything she does, Abby decides to go on a spontaneous trip with her best friend. In this first major act of rebellion Abby finds herself on the shores of Skaha Lake w

The Virgin Diaries follows Abby, a girl who finally breaks free from her restricted and controlled life by going on a road trip, where she meets the much younger Jade.

I absolutely loved Jade. He was so tender and sweet throughout the story (and I must add how much I love the name Jade for a guy). I really felt Abby's and Jade's devotion to each other as I read through the story. The dynamic of their age difference also provided a uniqueness to this book (since it most certainly does not stray in

This was a sweet, enjoyable read that felt a bit like dipping into a daydream. The author takes particular care with scene-setting and locational details, which was wonderful, and I found it easy to become invested in the connection between the main characters. Nobody is perfect in this novel - both leads make mistakes, sometimes overlook the obvious, and, in short, are incredibly human. The problems dealt with are (at least to an infrequent reader in this genre!) unique, and handled with realis ...more

I really enjoyed this love story with a twist. The author has dealt with a sensitive matter in an excellent way and given hope to many sufferers who stay silent.
The love story is endearing and I was carried along by the characters wants and needs.
I would recommend this book to everyone.

At the same time both entertaining and educational (I've lived 60 years without hearing a word about the medical problem plaguing Abby!), I found The Virgin Diaries to be a heart-warming book. It touched all of the right emotions: love, fear, joy, sorrow and happiness. I found myself captured and emotionally involved with the main characters, Abby and Jade. Although this first novel by Bianca Rowena fits nicely into the YA genre, I recommend it to women of all ages. Well done, Bianca! I look for ...more

This book is the gripping coming of age story of a slightly naïve 29 year old woman. You will stick by her through the struggles of burdening family demands and society’s expectations. But in the heart of this story lies the often debilitating, and frequently misunderstood, issue of social anxiety disorder. Looking forward to more from Bianca Rowena!
