Harry Goldman is back once more, and this time he’s living the domestic life up in the Catskill Mountains with Anastasia, his transgenic girlfriend. At the end of Catnip 2: Rise of the Transgenics, he went through the same process as Anastasia did. Now he’s the same as she is, and their only wish is to be left alone and to live their lives in peace.
Their peace is shattered by the arrival of a pig-man named Istvan. It seems that Istvan escaped from a laboratory in Hungary where yet another scientist was conducting transgenic experiments. In short order, the young couple is confronted by Szabo, a giant of a man who is more shark than man. He has plans not only for himself but also for others who wish to become as he is.
This is something that Harry cannot allow. Soon he, Anastasia and Istvan are circling the globe and making stops in Hungary and Serbia. Their journey ends in Russia where it all began. There, Harry meets the real brains behind the transgenics program and is once more involved with his girlfriend in a battle against those who’d destroy society, a battle that could very well cost them their lives.
J.S. Frankel was born in Toronto, Canada, many moons ago and managed to scrape through high school and university, earning a BA in English Literature and leaving no book unopened during his time at the University of Toronto. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Japan in order to teach English to the hapless residents of whichever city he happened to be living at the time.
In 1997, he married the charming Akiko Koike and their union produced two rather interesting children. Frankel and his family make their home in Osaka where he teaches during the day and attempts to write YA fiction at night.
The Revolution was written as wonderfully as the first two books in the Catnip series. J.S. Frankel is a phenomenal writer, putting heart and soul behind every word written. The agony, love, and danger the characters face comes through seamlessly on every page. I must admit I am a MAJOR fan of Frankel and Catnip!
The story starts out nearly 3 months after the last one ended. Harry and Anastasia are living quietly in the cabin provided to them by the FBI in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Their lives aren't everything that they imagined they would be, but are the best they can be for now. Harry is still running simulations in an attempt to find a way to return Anastasia and himself back into everyday humans. Anastasia is training Harry in combat skills on a daily basis. And Agent Farrell makes his weekly visits to deliver groceries and check in on the men he stationed to look out for Harry and Anastasia. Everything is good, except the fact that Harry has been having a reoccurring nightmare for the past month, in which he has completely devolved into a cat and is trying to escape from something large that wants him. In his gut he knows it's a premonition letting him know that there are more transgenics out there, he only hopes that they aren't as evil as the ones they have previously encountered.
Then it happens, Harry's nightmare becomes a reality. He is face-to-face with the strongest and most horrific thing he has ever seen. And so, Harry and Anastasia must set out to figure out who created this monstrosity and how to stop them before it is too late for the rest of the world.
This is the journey of finding the truth about where everything began and who has been the mastermind to introduce such dangerous creatures to the world. Overcoming great challenges and meeting new friends along the way, the dynamic duo - Harry and Anastasia - are once again "off the books" in their plight to save everyone from destruction. In the end all they ever wanted was to live a happy life, being themselves, and knowing there wouldn't be any further issues of evil transgenics. Is this even possible? Will Harry and Anastasia be able to figure out who is behind the maniacal actions? Or are they destined to remain in hiding forever?
This story can be read by itself, however I strongly suggest that you start at the beginning and follow the journey of a young man who simply wanted to find a cure for cancer and found himself instead taking on evil creations incomprehensible to the average person.
Something’s coming. It’s big, very big…and it isn’t friendly.

Summary:
The idea of scientific genetic manipulation makes you think of deformities in ways that have never been seen before. The way Anastasia and others were brutally experimented upon by scientists who felt that the ends justifies the means was terrifying. Harry and his father never imagined that their work in genetics could be used to manipulate others against their will and he was horrified at how his work was twisted into something evil. This story reminds us that any scientific advances could be perverted if gotten into the hands of the wrong people. The way Harry and his friends banded together to stop those who would kill without thought was inspiring and sad because their lives would never be the same. The many damaged individuals determined to kill everyone different from them were vastly different than the few that fought at Harry and Anastasia's side to protect each other and the unknowing people around them. Harry and Anastasia were different from average humans, but if given the chance would they be able to go back to their old lives? What about they other transgenic people out their? There are many questions yet to revealed.
Woot! Another awesome continuation of the Catnip series. I won’t make a summary of the book, as usual, because there are plenty of reviewers doing that. I’ll only focus on the god parts. I felt that unlike the previous books this one focuses a lot more on Harry. Despite the other books being written from his POV as well, it felt like the focus was Anastasia because of his feelings for her, but the focus changes a bit in this book due to Harry having horrible nightmares. It’s now Anastasia’s turn to step away from the lime-light and let her guy be the main character. I really, really liked this switch and I loved how Jess wrote this part a lot; the descriptions are so vivid and the trip inside Harry’s psyche is really intriguing and very well written. I felt even closer to the characters than in the first two stories.
I also loved that the ending was left open and many questions were still left unanswered. Really hoping for a Catnip 4 in the upcoming future. I definitely recommend this whole series. It’s my favorite series by JS Frankel so far, along with Lindsay&Jo. What’s not to love about mad scientists and genetic experiments going horribly wrong?
Jess is a spectacular writer and it’s a real pleasure submerging in the universes he creates. I feel that his writing feels a little more mature, not in the sense that it’s better or the books are more for adults than YA, but the style has changed a little, the stories flow differently and in a good way. Really enjoying this new side of Jess Frankel and loving his writing more with every new book.
Catnip 3: Revolution is the third book in a series. The story is a fantasy adventure about genetic engineering gone wrong! Anastasia and Harry, two genetically engineered subjects, find themselves in the midst of a political controversy involving wayward scientists and unethical doctors who have decided to use their knowledge in hideous ways in an attempt to bring glory to themselves. It is up to Anastasia and Harry to put an end to the madness: an undertaking which involves mystery, death and mayhem!
Catnip 3: Revolution is a very interesting story. The plot is well conceived and the characters are very well developed. Although it is a fantasy, the book is well constructed and the reader soon gets swept away by the story line.
If you enjoy fantasy, intrigue, a touch of romance and mystery, this book is for you! It captivates the imagination and whets the imaginative juices of the reader!

Revolution is the third instalment in J. S. Frankel's Catnip saga. I don't want to spoil for other readers, so let me say that it definitely does not disappoint. The writing as always, is great, easy to read but not simplistic. The fast pace keeps you on the edge of your seat with anticipation.
One thing I think I've mentioned in reviews for other works by Frankel, is that I really love the way he creates relationships between his characters. Harry and Anastasia have had some tough times in the first two novels, and Frankel's not done putting them through the ringer! But their love stays strong, and that is something which I really admire.
This story could probably be read by itself, but readers would benefit from reading Catnip and Rise of the Transgenics first. I would recommend this novel to young adult readers who are interested in science fiction, drama and action.
I would love to spend a day in Jesse's head. Not my speed of reading, but I found myself so involved in this story as I am always in reading Jesse's books. I loved Harry and Annastacia's relationship. Although this is the only book I've read in the series it seems they have went through a lot to get where they are now.
Totally off topic, but in the recurring dream I loved his description of how Harry felt as a cat. It made me feel as if I were the one running on all fours.
I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves action, drama based sci-fi, good versus evil type of books. I promise you won't regret it.
I was given this book by the author for an honest review and unbiased review!
A gifted copy was given in exchange for an honest review. This is the third book in the Catnip series. Anastasia and Harry meet more transgenics. These are even deadly than the ones in the previous books. Their regeneration power is so fast that it is nearly impossible to kill them. Szabo, a shark-man monster is the worst of all of them. Mean, cruel, and totally mad, will do anything to get what he wants. Will Anastasia and Harry be able to stop him? Another great story by J.S. Frankel. Well-written, fast-paced and interesting point of view. I thought it was going to be the last one on the series, but there will be another one. I can hardly wait to read it.
**This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review**
I have never read anything by this author before but I was given the chance to read this book for free so I took it. This book grabs your attention and doesn't let go. Then again it is about mutant people and that is pretty attention-grabbing in itself. I loved the whole concept of the book. Crazy mad scientists making crazy hybrid humans. Love it!! This is book 3 in the series but it can stand on it's own. Will I read more by this author? Definitely! First, I plan to buy books 1 & 2 so I can get caught up on this series!
Not that I ever review my novels--I hope the readers will do that for me in exchange for the freebies :)--but I had a blast in writing the Catnip trilogy. It's got everything I ever wanted to put in a novel: action, suspense, humour, good dialogue, and even a little romance. Alan Moore once said life had no genres (or words to that effect) and my novels tend to mix a few, because life is like that.
I hope the readers out there will consider picking up the first two installments of this series. I think they're worth it. Oh, and if anyone is interested, Catnip 4: Separation, is underway.
Yes, i can say only wow. I started to read with the first story, Catnip, and could hardly stop reading. Now with that one, the books are so good written, that i had difficulty to get to a stop, to do other things. The characters are fantastic. Harry and Anastasia. Love them, and that they had the press conference, while still in cat form, i think that is just great. I really wonder how the story will go on. Will they stay as they are and have kittens? will they have the change to change back to their normal form? Can't wait to read the next in line.
