Unexpected Engagement
Simon McLeod was a promising young naval captain before pirates attacked his ship and CIA agents forced him to fake his death and join their ranks. Military men FTW! This is the third book in Silvia Violet's Unexpected series, a series about a group of Navy SEALS from the same unit. (Read my review of Unexpected Rescue and Unexpected Trust.) Unexpected Engagement features former captain Simon of the Ridgeway and its medic Edgar. Simon has been in love with seemingly straight Edgar for years. When Simon ends up seeking out Edgar after years apart, the steamy romance begins.
We get to see some good action in this one, in real-time and flashbacks. I always love that. We also get some great man-virgin sex and a fanatic realization that these old friends are in love with one another. Tie it all up with some hurt/healing/comfort and a HEA and we've got a winner.

While I did really like this book, this one just did not grab me as much as the others did for some reason..
I did like Simon and Edgar together I just wished Simon would not have fought it so much. That got a little annoying after awhile. Then when they finally get together you do feel like these two fit together so well.
You get Edgar who Simon thinks is straight and Simon who is doing a lot of under cover missions putting his life in peril which brings him to Edgar's over and over again.
This book had a lot of action and some sweet moments too..
So all together I really did like this book, it just took me awhile to get into this one for some reason..
I would defiantly recommend this series!

In this series, you don’t have to have read them all, but having done so definitely add sflavor to the interactions the MCs have with the secondary characters. I started this series with book 2, http://thebloggergirls.com/2014/07/31..., and I’ve really enjoyed it!
In this installment we focus on Simon: crazy, willing to do anything for the job, in love with his best friend, always one step away from imminent danger. He’s returned to Edgar (the best friend) to ask for a final favor and the hope that this time it really will be the last.
Edgar: out of the military, ex-Seal, current doctor, friends with but highly frustrated with Simon, and willing to admit his feelings are no longer just friendly. He agrees to patch Simon up again and go along with him on this “final” endeavor, but he’s not so sure that Simon will ever, truly be “out” of the business.
There is very little angst in this book. Edgar and Simon pretty much admit their feelings right away – so that clears them for some pretty intense sex scenes. The drama in this book is reserved for the mission. The mission is the same as in books one and two and I won’t spoil the ending, but I agree with Edgar… it may never be “over” for these guys.
It was great seeing the old couples again and the chemistry between Edgar and Simon is hot! I’d have wished for more romance and a bit less mission, but I appreciated that it’s kind of how these characters led the story.
All in all I’ve really enjoyed this series and fans of the series won’t want to miss this installment!

Simon was the youngest captain of a Navy ship when it was attacked by "terrorists" but he knew it was an inside job. He's thing "killed" and goes to work for some shady agency, but is always working to find the people behind the ship disaster. Medic and friend Edgar has saved him more than once, officially and unofficially and has had enough of patching up Simon who appears to have a death wish. He shows up one more time and FINALLY Edgar (who is straight) admits to Simon his feelings. Simon brings him in on the big finale to catch the bad guys with the whole crew from the other books but at the last minute cuts Edgar out (what an ass). The whole thing kind of falls apart and Simon is kidnapped again, but they soon find him and the big cheese gets away but the ring is more or less taken down. Simon was such a hot mess emotionally and I enjoyed how Edgar could kind of bring him back to reality and give him something other than revenge to live for. I particularly liked Edgar's psychiatrist colleague, she was one of the rare women characters but I really liked her a lot. She was a great friend and smart and could hold her own against snarky sneaky spy Simon.
So on the whole I enjoyed this series. Lots of action and political intrigue,

The bad guy was Kingsford, the admiral and one of Jackson and Sport's seal team, Reed was the one who helped the admiral. Reed was dead meanwhile Kingsford was running away and never been captured. And Rodriguez was already dead but when and how? Too bad Silvia Violet didn't give any details about it.
This book was less enjoyable than the Danny and Sport's because turned out Simon and Edgar were pining for each other but too scared to act on it and I thought when Edgar said "failed attempt of dating" he meant platonically but nope, he had slept with Laura, several times but they just didn't click and Edgar's mind was already filled with Simon. I wish Silvia Violet didn't mention that little detail.

This was the most exciting of all of the series but I agree that Simon did exasperate me at times because he did fight his feelings and was so determined to punish the ones responsible for all of the deaths and that his life was upended and he blackmailed into doing the missions so Edgar would be safe. Did not expect the traitor but was glad that he got what he deserved. The only thing I was unhappy about was that Kingsford got away and Simon wanted to know what he wanted with him and the series ended without answers.

Ex-teammate and medic Edgar has been patching Simon up for years but has got to the point recently where it hurts him to see his friend so battered and edging ever closer to his death. In a bid to save his own sanity and probably save his own heart he tells Simon not to come to him next time he is in trouble. Old habits die hard though and when Simon is shot and bleeding out it is Edgar’s doorstep that he lands on.
This story is told from both the past and present POV as it runs through situations these two old friends have found themselves in. Simon has been treated and conned badly by men he thought he could trust and the deaths of his men play heavily on his mind. As much as he wants to stay totally focused on his mission and catch those responsible he also wants another life where he can live in relative peace and not constantly look over his shoulder – this life very much involves Edgar.
Edgar’s conflict isn’t really that he is attracted to a man for the first time in his life but more that he is attracted to a man with a death wish. No matter how hard he tries to box off his feelings when the two of them are in the same room together sparks fly. He is turned on, terrified and in too deep.
This is a lovely friends to lovers story with some mystery, bad guys with guns and two men who seem to need each other more than anything else. Great third book in the series!

Unexpected Engagement is book 3 in the series and I really, really hope there will be tons more books to follow.
Simon, Addy’s bodyguard from Unexpected Trust, is an adrenaline junkie who has more lives than a cat. He takes all the Special OP jobs that nobody wants. He technical doesn’t exist any longer – died when his ship sank. He is at the end of his rope and is not sure how much longer he can go on like this.
Edgar, Ex-Naval medic and Simon’s best friend. He told Simon to stop coming back to him every time he needs to be fixed up, but the real reason is because Edgar cannot deal with Simon popping in and out of his life. Simon needs Edgar’s help one more time, but will Edgar turn him away or decide it is time to let Simon in on a little secret he has been keeping (Oh….you’ll want to know what that secret is but won’t be getting it from me…..heehee).
Violet once again gave us an extraordinary story that has continued since book 1 and keeps getting better with every book. Once you think you know what the out come will be Violet switches gears and takes it all the way to left field. I love when authors can keep you guessing until the very end (even though it isn’t the end)!
Unexpected Engagement was a suspenseful, captivating & loving story that will grab you by the balls and not let go. Simon & Edgar pretty much ripped my heart out, stomped all over it, sewed it back together and placed it back in. I will forever love those two.
Thank Silvia Violet for giving us such an amazing series so far and I look forward to more (please say there will be more to this series). You create a world that us readers can get lost in and enjoy - and for that I am very grateful!

Book 3 of the Unexpected Series, and by far my favorite!! I will say the same plot from books one & two is in book 3 so you must read those first.
Simon, who we met in book 2, is a dead man, no really he is on paperwork as dead. So, he was sucked into the "spy life" with one of the various agencies that is out there. He feels he doesn't deserve the happy ever after, and to me at times it felt like he was just waiting for his body to be just as dead as he was in the books. But he has his one and only, Edgar.
Edgar is actually not really part of anything, he is a doctor for a family practice. But at one time he was a medic, at one time he was best friends with Simon. Until he pushed him away. Edgar tired of being the one to patch Simon back together again, but was never brave enough to tell him the real reason why it bothered him the way Simon lived his life. Until one night when Simon shows back up at his door, once again injured. How will Edgar deal with this? Will he patch him up and send him away again? Or will both men take a chance on what they want?
I really enjoyed this story, the hot man on man action, WOW. Just like the rest of the series there is drama, just not the kind we are used to in romance novels, lol. I do think that there will be a book 4, but we will have to wait and see. I did get a little more of a how they end up, but not much of one, I would really like to see the what happens on the other side of things, but I guess I will just have to take what I get, lol. As much as i loved the previous two books in the series this one surpassed both of them !!
There's so much passion, action, emotion and angst in this book that at times i had to stop reading to regain my composure !! A few times a wanted to reach in and slap both of them for being stubborn,not as much as Sport & Danny or Jackson & Addy but almost !!
Simon & Edgar's story had me gripped from the start. We'd met Simon in Sport and Danny's book briefly when he was called in to help and had heard of Edgar but that was it. In this we find out exactly who they both are. We first meet Edgar when Simon turns up at his house in need AGAIN even after being told by Edgar that he'd no longer help him which is understandable as Edgar has always had a soft ( or hard depending on the situation ) spot for Simon which Simon has never realised even though Edgar's worked out that Simon fancies him.But he's sick of helping Simon only for him to leave every time leaving Edgar with no idea of whether he'd ever see him again be it dead or alive. Absolutely loved how smoothly the story flowed and the proposal was just gahhhh yeah i may have melted !!

although i've liked the other couples in this series i liked these guys the best. i felt more emotion with them. possibly because they had been skirting this relationship for so long or possibly because they both just suffered more through their relationship.
simon is exactly the bada$$ you think he is in book 2. he's lived through so much and come out stronger from each incident. he felt he wasn't good enough for edgar and didn't want to endanger him with his lifestyle so he tried to stay away from him. edgar was a sucker when it came to simon and would do anything for him. he is a badarse in his own right but seems a little more sentimental and sensible. together they are explosive while being sweet and vulnerable with each other.
i was a little disappointed in the culmination of the mission , but overall i liked the story. it seems like there might have been room left for another book in the series possibly. i'd definitely read more if that happened!

Unexpected Engagement by Silvia Violet ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Unexpected Engagement was outstanding! It drew me in immediately, and I COULD NOT put my Kindle down! I read late into the night and have a major book hangover. Unexpected Engagement was incredibly suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat for much of the book! As book three in the series, it answered a lot of questions but also left me with more questions.
The characters were complex and mostly likable. Edgar is a tough ex-Navy SEAL medic turned small-town doctor. Simon is an accomplished spy. They both have a lot of history together and also a lot of baggage. Their relationship is explosive! I was pleased to see Addy, Jackson, Sport, and Danny (from books one and two) playing a role in Unexpected Engagement.
This was my third book by Silvia Violet, and I am hooked! I truly hope she is busy writing another book for the series that will answer my remaining questions! I will most definitely be looking for more books by Silvia Violet.

Another intense read as Simon continues the search behind the attacks on his and Jackson's teams. Getting ever closer, the danger ratchets up a gear or two. Edgar was on Simon's team when they were attacked. Although is now out of the game, Simon trusts him implicitly and returns to him heal when he is injured. While Simon has had feelings for Edgar for a while, he hasn't acted on them for fear of putting him in danger and not knowing if Edgar was even gay. But Edgar has been carrying feelings for Simon but finds watching him get hurt and wondering if he will come home alive difficult.
What we see with Simon is pretty much always a front to hide his demons but when he is with Edgar we see glimpses of the broken man beneath. They bring each other the peace they desperately need from the nightmares of their past.
This was definitely an edge of your seat as danger is never far away and it is unclear as to who can be trusted. This is a great series, with plenty of highs and lows, emotions and hot scenes, danger and sweetness.

This was definitely an edge of your seat as danger is never far away and it is unclear as to who can be trusted. This is a great series, with plenty of highs and lows, emotions and hot scenes, danger and sweetness.

Finally, two MC that match what they are supposed to be doing.
Simon, hurt and on the run turns to Edgar his best friend but the last person he should.
Edgar can’t help himself, for years he’s fallen into this destructive pattern so why change now.
These two work well together, fighting the bad guys, learning each other, overcoming other issues. I’m starting to understand more and more of what is happening and what happened to get all of these charaters to this point. Unfortunately, it took all of these books to get the whole picture.
Simon is deep into a personal hell that he is ready to break free from, and he’s on the action pack mission to get his life back. And it’s a good tale. But just not enough.
I have have to say, if I was reading these for pleasure and not promised reviews, I would have stopped after book one.

Four stars!
I really enjoyed seeing Simon and Edgar get together. They are so perfect for each other. They clearly both want to take care of each other and it leads to some interesting situations. The subplot Simon is investigating was so interesting. I wanted to know what happens and see who all was behind it. I couldn’t put the book down! There’s still some of that to be handled. But there’s a logical stopping point and there was enough progress you don’t feel like nothing happened. I was blown away by some of the revelations in the story. I so want the next book in the series to find out what happens next!

This is the third installment in the series and possibly my favorite so far because the connection between Simon and Edgar has blown up in the best fiery way possible. Now that the truth is out and the friendship has deepened nothing can stand in their way or so they think. The bad guys are still conspiring to fulfill their plan and the drama and suspense has risen. I have enjoyed each of these installments in the series and look forward to reading more. The relationship between Edgar and Simon really drew me in and the build of the suspense felt so realistic that I could not put it down.

I loved this addition to this series. Getting to know Simon more was excellent. There was something about the way Simon cared so much for Edgar because of everything in their past that just did it for me. The angst between Edgar being 'straight' and Simon always putting himself in danger that kept me flipping pages.
Even at the end of the book we are still left with questions but we get a bit farther with the plot which is nice and keeps the overall storyline moving along.
Can't wait for more!

3.5 stars - it was nice to get the background this provided and dang the way these two snark and argue yet take care of each other (okay - Edgar takes care of Simon, but Simon looks out for Edgar) is HOT. Waiting to hear what happens next and with whom. I hope there is a little more Addy and Jackson in the next. Addy isn't in this one at all, which I understand - he's not a spy/ops/military person but it would have been nice to hear a it about him.

I love this series. This is the third book and I can't believe how much angst there still was. Edgar and Simon seem well matched and had so much between them.
I loved how the plot is coming together and just can't wait for more. There has to be another as the whole thing isn't over yet.
The only problem with this book was how abruptly it finished.
I want HEA s for all these couples and some weddings before this series finishes.

Very good book in the series.
This addition to the "Unexpected" lineup was quite good. A lot more action than the last one. This also had most of the characters we'd already met except for Addy. The bad guys plan is being uncovered, although it's getting a little bizarre. This also had virgin man-love! Edgar and Simon were pretty hot together. This is a series that is staying pretty strong and for me is a great improvement over the other series I've read from this author.

Love all the characters in this series and couldn't wait for Simon's story. The author did not disappoint with the third installment. Edgar and Simon were super hot together. Many times I wanted to knock some sense into Simon's stubborn head, but Edgar took care of it for me. Love the interaction between the characters from all 3 books in the series.

The story of Simon and Edgar wasn't what I expected , but I liked it especially Edgar character , because wasn't the usually stuff about friends become lover: not much angst, misunderstanding and drama. I liked the dominant part of Edgar and like him is able to see behind la facade and to know what Simon's needs. Sweet and wonderful the end the book.

Admittedly, I am reading this out of order. It is my first book in the series. But, I am DNFing. It is fine as a stand alone. But, there is too much internal angst dialogue for me. It slows the pacing. And makes me not care anymore about what happens. If you both love each other, say so and move on. DNF at 35%.
