Side by side with biblical teachings and sayings of Jesus are the apocryphal New Testament teachings and things including the Gnostic gospels discovered in 1945. The apocryphal writings are strange reading. Every time I delve into the apocryphal writings I know why scripture is strictly related to Cannon. Interesting reading but a little strange and places. It almost in some places reads like the Koran. The canonized gospel of John was written to combat gnostic teachings. You can see the gnostic writings clearly if you know that their idea of God was he series of emanations which preceded from the father and colonnaded in Jesus who was not flinch and blood but spirit. If this teaching disappeared by the third century it is easy to understand why. Whole idea of the canonical gospels was to prove that Jesus came in the flesh. The teachings that are listed in the apocryphal writings do not always reinforce the character that we get from the Gospels. In those instances especially the apocalyptic writings I see traces of a crime. It is a good place to store the history but no you a Bible very well before you start this book not because it will shake your faith but just so you can have a comparison and make decisions for yourself about what you think.
