I stumbled across this gem while searching for more books read by my current favorite narrator, R. C. Bray. On Audible the first short story in The Mountain Man series, titled 'The Hospital' is free. While you don't have to read that in order to enjoy the omnibus there are references to it and as a fan of short fiction I would recommend, if you are not an audiobook person, that you hunt this short story down because this is a tight piece of writing all on it's own and a credit to the author's ta ...more

This book is worth its weight in toilet paper!

Don't let the review title fool you, once you read the book you will understand the meaning behind it. This was one of my favorite series to listen to and kept me hooked throughout the various plot twists. From the start of this excellent adventure that is Mr. Augustus Gray (Gus), Mr. Blackmore does a fantastic job of highlighting the various items that we, as modern day humans, take for granted in our world. What is life like when all the niceties w

Mountain Man

I have been having a difficult time lately. People have been getting on my nerves easier than usual, and it’s creating anger at the forefront, as opposed to my usual happy-go-lucky attitude.

I’m not sure what it is. Maybe all the horror and zombie stories are taking their t

Very entertaining audiobook. Basically the Walking Canada. As in other zombie stories, the worst villains are not the undead but humans. And two of the most evil characters ever imagined are in this one. Although there are many extended and excruciating descriptions of the physical horror inflicted on individuals by the zombies and baddies, Blackmore does a good job of rounding out his characters and giving us credible reasons to like, fear, or despise them. And the incomparable R.C. B ...more

This was the first three books of a zombie series. The first and third book had a lot of typical zombie and human situations, the second book brought in a new element that was a little slow but I ended up enjoying. Overall I enjoyed these books for the characters and some of the cringe worthy descriptions. I'm going to take a break from the series, but will definitely revisit the rest of the books down the road.

If Stephen King were to write a Zombie Apocalypse novel, it would be a lot like this. I'm a middling fan of the ZA genre; this is perhaps the best I have read (at least in a while). I'm on to book 4 now...

Really enjoyed these books, I'm a fan of the post apocolyptic genre, so this was right up my alley. Easy to read, good story flow and good antagonists throughout. Might have gotten irritated one or twice, but overall solid books.

Quite enjoyed this zombie thriller. Dark, gritty, funny; had a bit of everything. A good read if you like post apocalyptic survival gore.

I enjoyed this because I like the zombie theme however it was rather disgusting in certain parts. Not a kid book at all!

At times was boring and with information, in the third book, that was a bit overwhelming and boring at the same time.

This is one of the best post apocalyptic stories I've listened to. The author did an amazing job with the story and the narrator was perfect! The characters Gus and Scott were very relatable. I'm looking forward to book 4!

Even though this is an omnibus and contains three books they really blend together so it seemed like there was only one story. I really enjoyed the fact that the first book is about the two main characters and then each main character gets a single book to themselves that follows their paths after they split up.
I have a few specific thoughts about the books though, so, spoilers

I liked the idea of a serial killer in the zombie apocalypse, but I thought the idea of a group of cannibalistic humans

I never again need to know how many times a man scratches himself. By the time it got to the end of book one I was so done with the main character. I couldn't believe that self destructive behavior hadn't gotten him out of the picture. By the time book three started I wanted him dead. I was rooting for zombies. I liked book three much better because he wasn't in it much. The characters in Book 3 seemed to want to live and acted accordingly. All in all I couldn't wait to finish not because it was ...more

Very good zombie apocalypse read about a loner living on the side of the mountain above a small city in Canada. Gus is a character who fights the zombies with his boomstick, shotgun, beast-van on one hand and alcohol on the other. In fact, his alcoholism is sometimes hard to read at times, the author does a good job in the details of how Gus tries to forget about the world he lives in. This collection contains 3 books in one, with the third my personal favorite. I liked the bleak setting, the ch ...more

This could of been a 4 but the 3rd book didn't do much for me.

The zompoc comes to the Maritimes.

I've not read a zompoc set in Nova Scotia before and I found it quite novel. (ha ha) The setting didn't bring anything particularly unique to the story but the main for the first 2 books, Gus, is a great character who, though alone for most of the books, has great interactions with other characters and alcohol.

It's standard zompoc stuff but it's got a great balance of action, drama and humour. The fir
After reading all the Walking Dead material I could get my hands or ears on I didn't think I could get anything else as good then along comes Mountain Man. From the start I've been hooked as I've went on the roller coaster of life during a zombie apocalypse with Gus then Scott. Sadly I kinda went boo when Roxette came along as I could see the writing on the wall so to speak and it does drag its feet slightly when the story needs padded out But hay ho... I won't say anything more as it will spoil ...more
If you are into the zombies, the apocalypse, or end of the world genres, this series is worth a read. I preferred to listen to the audible version of this one because I especially like the narrator's body of audio work. Warning: lots of language, violence, survival, brutality, and cannibalism.

Freaking AMAZING, Blackmore has written an absolutely OUTSTANDING series of books. Twisted, morbid, bloody and oh so plausible! Audible Narration by RC Bray is phenomenal, bringing each character good or bad to life, and clear visualization to each horrific hair-raising scene!
