The English were/are very formal - just think about all the old movies from the fifties, sixties etc - everyone was Miss and Mr, not even first names were used even then. I would say around 90% of American authors do not write in the proper English manner, ever though they are writing books sent in Regency/Victorian England etc. Only a handful ever get it right, so I read those books and let it go. I believe this book is not intended to be a traditional read - just a whole lot of fun. (I very much enjoyed it)(less)

I liked the book, it was fun after I got into it. This had a slow start for me. I was intrigued by the characters since we met them in the prequel so I continued the book and I'm so happy I did.

Felicty has always been in love with Jason, the Duke of Netherford. She was resigned to never having a happily ever after with him, till she needed his help managing a fortune left to her by her great aunt.

Jason is Felicity's brother best friend and all 3 of them grew up together. He had always taken car

I was a full 5 until the hero's secret was revealed. Not that I had a problem with his secret in particular but I did not like that he kept it from her until the last possible moment.Just no,no.

Consequently,I found the ending was a bit too far fetched for that era.(I doubt a lord would ever publicly (view spoiler)

Another great romance from Ms. Foley. I just think that Jason gave in a little to easily for all his angst about love and marriage. Felicity was great in her strategy to get him to realize he did love her. Another Duke is next in the series, but I hope she has plans for Peter, her brother to get a HEA.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

3 1/2 stars (rounded down to 3 stars, because Ms. Foley's writing sounded too "modern" for the time period in which the story took place and I had a hard time buying it)

There’s a scene in Duke of Scandal where Felicity admires a statue of Hades and Persephone which portrays the innocent goddess seemingly seducing the roguish god, thus reversing the preconceived roles of these well known figures. That moment is not only a turning point for Felicity but also sums up the book’s story rather nicely as well.

I loved the tug-of-war between Felicity and Jason because it was the heroine that was in hot pursuit of the hero this time around. With Felicity being the one so

I thoroughly enjoyed this first full-length novel in the Moonlight Square Series. I thought that it had great characters in Jason Hawthorne, Duke of Netherford, and Felicity Carvel. I really liked the way they had been friends for their entire lives, even though they hadn't had much to do with one another for several years. I loved the ease that was between the two when they really started to spend time together again. The teasing and banter between them was fun, and they had wonderful chemistry ...more

This was a quick and easy read – but – it definitely wasn’t a historical. Yes, it says it is, but all of the conversations, situations, actions, etc. were thoroughly modern. If you replaced the carriages with cars, you’d have a contemporary story. The ‘hero’ was the biggest man-ho I think I have ever read and the ‘heroine’ was such a saccharine Pollyanna that it was totally unbelievable. Strangely enough, I did still enjoy the read. I

For an absolute fuckboy, Jason is sweet and simple, and I bought into the romance fairly quickly. Felicity is a charming minx, and Jason's rampant penis is entertaining for the most part. I'm the type of person who pays special attention to contraceptives in romances so while I was happy he had condoms, I'm still not sure he knows how to properly use them.

I was never going to give this book 4 stars or more the moment they revealed that Jason fathered two illegitimate children. The children are entirely innocent of course, but it is that Felicity, our dear sweet heroine, is now saddled with the knowledge that the mothers of the two children would forever lurk in the periphery of their lives between her and Jason, as Felicity's thought process went when she found out. Which is exactly right. And it is so irresponsible of him too. The moment he fath ...more

I LOVE this book! Jason and Felicity have known each other for many years and Felicity's brother is one of Jason's best friends. After a failed attempt of flirtation on Felicity's part when she was fifteen she thought after so many years that she had moved on and couldn't be in love with Jason anymore. Jason, known as the Duke of Scandal and Naughty Netherford, has had his great share of trysts and affairs he finds a new purpose in looking out for Felicity, as she has suddenly becomes an heiress ...more

I always love a Gaelen Foley book and 'Duke of Scandal' was no exception. Foley manages to keep the 'in love with brothers best friend' plot fresh and entertaining.

However, I am more excited about the next book in the series, 'Duke of Secrets'. Out of all the characters that appeared in this book (including a young Alec Knight) Azrael Chambers, the mysterious Duke of Rivenwood who only showed up in a hand full of scenes captured my interest the most. I look forward to seeing how his story with

In the prequel of the series we get to know the hero Jason as the debauched friend of Gable and learned he had a thing for Triny’s friend Felicity.
Well... Felicity and Jason were childhood friends and things changed once she tried to kiss him. She was just 15, and he was 19 and heir to a dukedom.
Years passed of him avoiding her, until some family matters throw them back together.
I’m a particular fan of childhood friends turned into lovers and this story was interesting and well written.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I feel like a broken record lately, because I’ve said this about so many authors whose works I’ve enjoyed, but this book just didn’t do it for me. Duke of Scandal was about a man who, out of years of neglect from both his parents, sought love between the sheets with half the ton, and the woman who sets out to tame him. This plot isn’t something that I usually have an issue with, and I think why it didn’t w

have been a huge fan of Gaelen Foley’s work for years, she is one of the few authors who can do thrilling, historical romance perfectly. I absolutely loved the Inferno Club, The Knights Miscellany and The Spice trilogy and I have been looking forward to finally reading this new series from her, this is book one in the Moonlight Square series and it’s a wonderful start.

The story opens with Felicity Carvel making her way to the notorious Duke of Netherford’s house, she has something she needs hel

After reading the prequel novella, I wanted to learn more about the main characters’ friends, and this book answered it.
I loved to see Felicity’s growing up, after years of refraining her true self, afraid to get hurt again, she decided to go after what she has always wanted, her brother’s best friend, the one who broke her heart all these years ago.
It was great to see her evolve from a rather shy creature to a bold one even if she remained rather innocent, she is not perfect but she tries, she

There are two slow learners with regard to this book. There's me, who should have known better than to pre-order a book by an author I'm no longer fond of, just because it's a new series and, I thought, a fresh start. And there's the hero of this book, who takes eight years to learn behavior modification.

(There may be SPOILERS ahead. Although judging by how much this story stank, it must have spoiled long ago.)

So we have our "hero", Jason, Duke of Something-or-Other. He's one of those poor littl

3 stars. I have a hard time believing Gaelen Foley wrote this

I read the prequel to this and was a bit surprised by the dramatic change in her writing style. I loved the action/ drama of the inferno series and the knight family series. So I really wasn't expecting this very lighthearted offering.

I personally wasn't bothered by Felicity's "chase him until he caught her" pursuit of Jason - the girl knew what she wanted and was all in. You go girl! I do however question her intelligence. Why she w

This is a lovely book and I enjoyed it very much. The Moonlight Square series is not as deep and intense as the Inferno Club but a nice romance. I liked Felicity and Jason. Jason had terrible parents and he's trying to be a better father to his illegitimate children. He has always loved Felicity but made promises to her brother. Felicity has loved Jason since she was a child and understands him. That's all the plot I'll reveal.

Jason Hawthorne, the sixth Duke of Netherford, is known to the peerage as “Naughty Netherford” and “the Duke of Scandal”, a rakehell of the first order. He is also Felicity’s older brother’s best friend and patron. Fear of hurting her, and respect for his friend, has prompted Jason’s decision to maintain a healthy distance from Felicity for eight years. He decides to aid her in his friend’s stead by dissuading fortune hunters from sniffing around her, counseling Felicity on the possibilities on ...more

Duke of Scandal is the first full book in Gaelen Foley's new Moonlight Square Series. We did get a glimpse and a tease in the Novella, One Moonlit Night but this is the first full book. As I mentioned in my review of One Moonlit Night, this series is a definite change of pace from Ms. Foley's other series. It was much more light hearted although there was character angst, they weren't dealing with the fate of a nation.
