I loved this indie debut. Total page turner. The story is a fast paced foray into the world of Russian oligarchs, art theft, yachts and super cars by Janet, an otherwise fairly ordinary banker who finds herself caught up in a crime whirlwind almost by chance at a time where her life has hit a plateau. Set in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Barcelona & Nice, hopefully this is merely the start of Janet and cos Bonnie and Clyde meets James Bond adventures.

I liked the storyline, even though everything fell into place a little too easily and the main protagonist always gets saved/saves herself at the last second.
The characters weren't that well developed, I never got to really understand the main character. I would have enjoyed reading a more in-depth personal development of some of the characters.
Often, the author starts building up tension and then releases it in one short sentence. This is disappointing sometimes and feels kind of anti-climatic.

I loved this story! It caught me from the very beginning, and kept me coming back. There was never a dull moment.

This has been on my TBR for ages I have kept putting it off but it was a surprisingly enjoyable read. Not great literature but pacy, good characterisation and an underscore of humour

After one night of uncharacteristic drinking and drug use, Janet wakes up in a hotel room next to a dead guy. The experience changes her life completely, drawing her into the world of stolen art, disgruntled thieves, unscrupulous businessmen and other people’s vendettas. Follow Janet as she travels the globe while trying to solve the puzzle left behind by the deceased. As she gets closer to the answers, she realizes her life is in danger and she may not solve the puzzle without also fighting for ...more

I grew up reading Stephen King and still occasionally read his older stories like Misery, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and the Shining. More recent favourites have been Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey, The Farm by Tom Rob Smith and Little Big Lies by Liane Moriarty. I have an interest in true crime books like Wicked Beyond Belief: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper by Michael Bilt ...more
