Mycroft Holmes: Fogbank

It is the autumn of 1892. Sherlock Holmes has been missing, presumed dead, for over a year.

Sherlock’s elder - and still more brilliant - brother, Mycroft (read by Rory Kinnear), is too busy to grieve this apparent loss. Working as an agent for the British government, Mycroft is tasked with the politics of maintaining an empire on the verge of collapse.

But on the streets of London, a killer is on the loose. A sequence of bloody bodies litter the East End, murders which echo those of Jack the Ripper four years before.

Against his better judgement, Mycroft is forced to step out from the shadow of his brother, and join the hunt for the truth. With his new maidservant, Liberty Bliss, by his side, Mycroft follows the scent of a conspiracy that will lead him to an organisation which sets to threaten everything – and everyone – he holds dear.

Meanwhile, the full truth about what happened to Sherlock has yet to be told...

The game’s afoot.

📚🔎 Book Review: Mycroft Holmes: Fogbank 🌫️🩸

Well, apparently Whitechapel wasn’t done with murder! 😂 Four years after the Jack the Ripper murders, we’re back in London and someone is killing again. Because clearly Whitechapel needed MORE problems. 😬

And this time, Sherlock Holmes is dead. 😱 So his brother Mycroft is left wondering… Should I actually try to solve these murders myself? 🕵️‍♂️

I loved the idea of stepping into Mycroft’s world and seeing what happens when the Holmes brother who usually stays behind the scenes has to take center stage. Add Victorian London, a string of murders, the shadow of Jack the Ripper, and plenty of mystery, and you’ve got a pretty fun murder-mystery setup. 🕯️🔍

But now I need to know… would YOU have figured it out? 🤔🧐 Or would you have been standing in Whitechapel like, “Well, good luck to everyone involved. I’m going home.” 😂

🩸 Murder mystery club question: Who do you think makes the better detective—Sherlock or Mycroft?

Fits well within Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes Universe

I very much enjoyed the book. I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan and I read a lot of books that are set within the universe.
This author did very well aligning the story with the original feel of Sherlock Holmes.
The dialogue style was very much on point. The existing character of Mycroft Holmes was recognizable in manner of speech and habit.
The existing character of Inspector Lestrade was given a bit more depth in this story. (Also very much appreciate the narrator's pronunciation)
I felt like the character was a somewhat different than the Lestrade of Conan Doyle's novels, but as the story played out, I think he took all the correct actions that the true Lestrade would have done, so the differences read a bit like character development versus just being uncharacteristic of the subject.
The narration was beautifully done.
And the music added so much to the story for me.
Bravo

Excellent interpretation of the character and the world, first 2/3rds truely delightful. Last third a bit more awkward as elements of what is probably the overplot come into play and threads are left for future books, but still a very fun read for fans of Holmes.
