Rose is morning the early death of her husband who was only 24 and killed by a drunk driving accident - Rose is also an artist and decides to sell all her paintings - enter Robert, who not only buys all her paintings but eventually steals her heart.

This is a story i enjoyed reading although some of it went on a bit. Descriptions of feelings were repterative, although they were heart felt and you can feel more with the character. The story is bloody good and with the unexpectied turns and twist,

This reads like a fairytale romance......but with a difference.

Rose lost Lucas and she was devastated. Her first love. Her soul mate. She was married and she had it all. A true life of what good fairytales are made of.

But like all fairytales, there comes a sting in its tale.

I couldn't help comparing my life with my husband who I have known since I was 16 and I am turning 58 at the end of this year, married for 35 years this year.
He is my friend, he was my friend before we fell in love, he still

"I don't think love is about letting go; it's about treasuring it whilst you still have it in your life."

After seeing that my university library offered this fiction book within the little cove-section of the library, I decided to pick it up. Out of all of them, this one stood out to be as I liked the sound of the title 'The Second Love of my Life'. I took it out for loan, hoping that I would actually finish a book as I personally hadn't picked one up for years!

It did sit in my room for a goof f

Very nice romantic novel.

I loved all the characters and Talting.

A sad read, but it was great to see that even though something so awful happened, it's possible to survive it.

Can you ever love more than one person? That’s the question Victoria Walters asks in her debut novel The Second Love of My Life.
Widowed in her twenties after losing the love of her life, Rose is left shattered and broken. The town where she grew up holds such bittersweet memories and she can’t fathom how she is supposed to carry on living without her beloved Lucas. She can’t even pick up the paintbrush and paint like she used to – she’s lost her biggest muse. However her fortunes might be about

Victoria Walters’ debut novel, The Second Love of My Life, is a must read for fans of women’s fiction. Set in a coastal village in Cornwall, Walters explores themes of love, grief and survival in this satisfying narrative.

Rose Walker was once known in her small village for being an up-and-coming artist, however now she is branded as the woman who was widowed at twenty four. The story begins two years after the

The Second Love of My Life is the debut novel by Victoria Walters.

Rose Walker has life figured out by the age of 22; she lives in a beautiful small town, Talting, on the Cornish coast in a townhouse next to the sea with her husband-to-be Lucas; she has lots of wonderful friends and neighbours, and works in a bar, but is also a renowned local artist.

4 years later Rose has lost her husband and her inspiration. Lucas was killed in an accident and Rose has been unable to paint since. A story in a lo

The Second Love of my Life is a beautifully written, inspiring and uplifting book about one woman's journey to a second happiness in her life.

Rose is young, but widowed, when the love of her life Lucas suddenly died, and two years on she is still coming to terms with it all. She used to be known before that as an artist in her native town of Talting in Cornwall, but hasn't painted since Lucas passed. When Rose decides to sell the rest of her paintings she doesn't expect to meet Robert, who love

Can you ever love just one person?? I actually believe that you can and Victoria Walters fabulously told novel is both genuinely brilliant and honestly real. Rose has had a tragic emotional drama and this affects Rose's artistic strength as well as her emotional one.As ever in truly romantic style she meets Robert and here we see the sun through the rain for her.

Victoria writes a gorgeous summery and heart rending tale and I loved it. Hugely recommended.

The narrative is extremely repetitive and the main character comes across at times as more than a little pathetic and completely self-absorbed! It's still readable, but just don't expect more from it than you would a run-of-the-mill romance.

Very predictable, and I had to force myself to finish it. What I really didn't like is that the Author takes a lot of pages repeating herself on the same idea.

This got some good reviews so I took a punt but, despite the author's ability to write articulately it felt bland and unimaginative, her husband died in a car accident caused by a drunk driver and her mother died of cancer? I'm not sure I can think of two more stereotypical causes of death.

Later we ere told that Rose is not a girly girl but she's not much of a tomboy is she if she struggles with an easel and finds replacing a light bulb a challenge... "How the hell do you put this up?’ Emma dema

The prologue set a warm and cosy scene and although I knew what was coming I liked the calm feeling it started me off with. Thankfully the initial sadness I had expected wasn't as overwhelming as I thought it would be. The author had a very gentle writing style which seemed to make everything easier to take in.

The characters were all likeable and in no time at all I felt like I knew them all personally. Robert, however, held a touch of mystery. I got the feeling there was something not being sai

"You can't make someone grieve the way you wish they would. You don't have a choice in how you handle it. You just feel the way you feel."

This was not on my TBR, but I chose to read it because it covers one of my favourite themes - grief. Rose Walker lost her childhood love, her husband Lucas in a tragic accident and is suddenly widowed at the age of twenty four. She struggles to cope with the loss, and to be inspired to continue painting again. As a writer, I relate so much to Rose's artistic t

Not a great novel from my point of view. Its about a woman called Rose who loses the love of her life Lucas in an accident. She know that she must go on but she's not sure she knows how. It is a typical fairy story with fairly tangible characters and a somewhat emotionally charged story line but it didn't really gel with me.

It was very predictable and lacked substance with no curve balls to keep the interest going. I did get a bit bored and confess to having skim read a lot of the book looking

This book took me ages to read, and not because it was a bad book. It was a sad one, you know how some books just speak your worst fears, this one did that. I put myself in the characters position easily (great writing) but at the detriment to myself. This book took so long to read because it made me so sad , especially the beginning. I did end up tearing up all through the book. However that is a testimony to how well the book is written and how well grief and the characters are portrayed. The ...more

Rose seems to have everything, her beautiful marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Lucas, her burgeoning career as an artist and a wonderful relationship with her best friend, Emma. But the fickle finger of fate strikes and Rose's life is changed in a heartbeat when she is widowed at twenty four. Lost in grief, Rose's home town of Talting in Cornwall do everything they can to protect the young widow but, as already observed, fate has a strange way of intervening, and for Rose the arrival of a st ...more

After reading a prequel to "The Second Love of My Life", "The Summer I Met You", that I enjoyed, I was very desperate to read more about Rose and Lucas. They were mentioned in the novella, and even though they were not the main characters there, I warmed to them immediately and wanted to know more about them. They just teamed so well together! However, it came to my knowledge that in "The Second Love of My Life" Rose is going to find, well yes, a second love of her life, and I must admit, it tro

My, my, my. What an absolute gem of a novel The Second Love of my Life by Victoria Walters turned out to be. After reading the short prequel to this story, The Summer I Met You (find my review here), I couldn't wait to delve into Rose Walker's life in the Cornish town of Talting. I knew from the second I started reading this book that I was going to love it, and I was proved to be absolutely right. This is such a beautiful novel about love, grief and second chances.

I loved Rose from the start of this novel, she just felt like a real person to me. I could feel her pain, her sadness and her desire to honour Lucas, but also her will to live life. I think a lot of people will identify quite strongly with her. She has been through a lot in her life and even if you haven’t bee

Victoria Walters has always loved creating stories. Her first book was handwritten when she was sixteen years old, and was closely modelled on the Sweet Valley High series. Victoria works as a Waterstones bookseller, mostly to get a discount on books. She lives in Surrey with her cat Harry (named after Harry Potter, not Harry Styles).

Her debut novel THE SECOND LOVE OF MY LIFE was published in 201
