As a bodyguard, it was his duty to protect her—not fall for her all over again…
Orion Security Group's mission is to protect those in serious danger. So when Oliver Quinn's latest assignment unexpectedly brings him back into Darling Smith's life, he knows it's going to be his most challenging case yet. And from the moment he comes face-to-face with the beauty from his past, Oliver can't deny their history is going to make for some tension-filled days—and frustrating nights. But keeping her safe, even though she denies she needs his help, has to come before exploring their lingering feelings. She may not have asked for his protection, but with the killer on her trail, she can't afford not to have it…
Tyler Anne Snell spends her days plotting murders, creating mysteries, and weaving sexual tension, romance, and can't-live-without-you love throughout each. When she isn't writing romantic suspense she's reading urban fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and falling even more in love with Netflix.
Tyler lives in South Alabama with her same-named husband, their mini lions, and a burning desire to meet Kurt Russell.
I love second chance romances and this definitely didn't let me down in that regard. I found myself interested from the very first page because Darling has such a great personality. I also loved how Oliver knew as soon as he heard Darling's name what he was in for. The two together and apart are equally fascinating.
The story itself pits Darling and Oliver on opposite ends with Darling working for the wife and Oliver working for the husband. Darling believes the millionaire Oliver is tasked with guarding is a murderer and Oliver believes his job is to keep his client safe. The further the two go into the murder investigation, the further into danger Darling seeps. It stops being just about doing their jobs to their respective clients and starts being able keeping Darling alive and safe.
The more time they spend together, the harder it is for either of them to deny the lingering something between them. Oliver's protective nature revs into high gear where Darling is concerned and Darling can't ignore that she does want Oliver. The two are hilarious because they both have such big personalities and clash quite a bit but also work well together.
Oliver Quinn from Orion Security Group has been hired as bodyguard for Nigel Marks, who has returned to the small town of Mulligan. This is right about the same time Darling Smith has been locked up for trespassing on Nigel's property. She is a private investigator, hired by Nigel's wife, to provide proof of his infidelity. The two of them have History (of course), when he left her eight years ago. They are thrust back into proximity when the dead body of a woman is found at the motel where Nigel Marks spent the night.
Go figure - just after reading an Intrigue novel with no action, suspense or any real plot, I read one with a fast-paced mystery plot, surprising plot twists, and genuine dollops of suspense! I'm not sure I fully connected with the characters at the beginning, but by the end I found them to be quite likable and was engaged in hoping for their happy ending! In my opinion, the details about their break-up eight years ago were a bit vague, especially on Oliver's end. If this conflict had been a little clearer, I might have been more invested earlier. However, that, and the slightly ridiculous name of the heroine, was about all I could quibble with here!
Strong main characters who behave logically and like adults. Plot twists that genuinely took me by surprise. An exciting, suspenseful climax. A winner! Plus, I hope side character Derrick Arrington gets his own story! If you like the Intrigue line, this one is highly recommended.
Good start to a new series. Darling's day starts out rather rough, when she gets arrested for trespassing on the local millionaire's property. The deputy, who she used to date, is having a little too much fun at her expense. But the day goes from bad to worse when the millionaire's bodyguard comes to question her, and it turns out to be the same man who broke her heart eight years earlier.
The last place Oliver expected to see Darling was in a small town in Maine, and on the opposite side of a case from him. The suspected mistress of the local millionaire has been murdered and Nigel is the top suspect. Darling has been investigating Nigel for infidelity, but Oliver is certain he's innocent of both charges.
When Darling begins getting threatening notes, Oliver can't just step back and ignore it. It may have been eight years, but there's still something there between them. The problem is that Darling doesn't want protecting. She's done fine without him. But when one attack puts Darling in danger of dying of exposure, even she has to admit she may need his help.
Even though it has been so long, the heat is still there between Oliver and Darling. Both try to resist, since Darling's place is in Maine, and Oliver works out of California. When Oliver puts her safety ahead of the job he was hired to do, he finds himself with some decisions to make. I loved seeing how he managed to work the job and the girl into a promising future.
The suspense of the story was really good. Who killed the woman? Who was she really? Someone seems to be helping Darling with her investigation one minute, then turning around and threatening her the next. I had a pretty good idea of who was responsible for the murder early on, but I couldn't figure out why. It wasn't until an unexpected twist at the end that the motive was revealed and it was quite a stunner.
Had you guessing til the end! I highly recommend it! Only thing I wish the ending, stayed the same, received another few sentences of dialog before the end. It was like all was explained then went to a happy end in 2.5 sentences!
This was a good start to a new series and for me a new author. I loved Darling, the PI, she was a great character and her giddiness was just a breath of fresh air. Then there was Oliver he was something else but what I liked about him was that he did what he needed to keep Darling safe. He didn’t care if that cost him his life. What was kind of scary was when you read that someone is watching her and you have no idea who it might be. For someone to see your every move and then for you to be kidnapped. Even though she is getting warnings she still is seeking and digging. There has to be a way to figure out who killed the woman in the hotel room and who is writing this notes to Darling.
Private Bodyguard was a good read. I liked how this story opens up a new series and I can’t wait to see who is next in this series. These two characters were meant to be together but first they need to go over the hurdle they have and see if they can be together.
I will be reading more books in the Orion Security Series!
Received ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an Honest Review
Darling is a private investigator on a case when she was caught and sent to the police station. Little did she expect to run into an old flame and find out that they are both working on the same case on different ends. Things get complicated when she is sent threatening messages the closer to the ending of the case she gets. Meanwhile it seems her heart is in danger of being caught up with Oliver once again.
Overall I loved this story. It was fun, suspenseful, interesting, and steamy. I mean there so much twists and turns to keep any reader hooked. Just when you think the story is ending you get dragged right on in again to find out something else is going on. I really enjoyed this book and I managed to get lost in this book within a couple of hours. Highly Recommend!
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley, in exchange for a honest review.
This book has 2 stories in it.
In the first book, it is a start to a new series. Oliver is a Bodyguard working for Orion Security and he his hired to protect a millionaire, but a Woman from his past is also set to get infomaion from his client. Darling and Oliver have a past, it was fun to see how that played out. The story, was interesting and it keeps you hooked from the beginning. I can't wait to read more from this new series.
In the 2nd book by Delores Fossen: it is a must read. Ms. Fossen books are always amazing and a one click for me, she should be for you too. Check this book out today.
I received Private Bodyguard as an ARC (advance reader's copy) book from NetGalley. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. The book had an interesting plot, but I never grew to care for the characters-- frankly, I'm not sure what they saw in each other. I also had a hard time following the story on some occasions, due to clumsy segues from one scene to another. The overall book wasn't bad, and other readers may think the protagonists are a perfect fit. Simply not to my taste?
It's a second chance story and this is the first time that I read from this author. I already love the series. I love the characters! Oliver is a private bodyguard hired by a millionaire businessman. While, Darling was a private investigator hired by Oliver's client to look for proof of infidelity. Their first meeting again after Oliver left Darling during their younger years is kinda strange but cute at the same time. Things get more difficult especially on Darling when she saw a murder of woman in a hotel room, bathroom to be exact. From finding proof to murder and escalated more to kidnapping. Of course, Oliver save Darling not once but twice. During on solving the case and finding about Jane Doe things gets difficult for Oliver coz choosing his love of life than his work. Soon, Darling finds out ther missing link and things get worst. I love on how Oliver saves her also on how he Confessed to Darling about their past and his love and so vice versa while Darling tries to protect herself and Oliver from the main culprit, which is the son of Oliver's former client.
I love the story. Also the characters like the other orion agents. There's some things kinda rush but it's no biggie. It's a quick read novel. And I like Tyler Anne's Orion Security series.
No kidding...I stayed up late into the night with a flashlight reading this book. With none stop action, Tyler Anne Snell gives us characters that make you care about what happens next. When Oliver, a bodyguard with Orion Security, is given a client to protect, the last person he expected to run into was detective Darling who had been hired by his clients wife. Oliver and Darling have a history, and when a woman turns up dead and Darling's life is in danger, his client is at the top of the most likely guilty list. It's fun to watch just how far they will both go to accomplish their missions...both in life and love. We get to meet some other members of Orion Security and I can't wait to read their stories. While this is a stand alone, it is also part of a four book series. If you like romantic intrigue you will love this book and the twist and turns that lead to a very satisfactory ending..

. Oliver Quinn's boss' instructions are simple don't make the local PI mad, but find out why she is sniffing around their client. Ten he hears her name and knows there is no way he can avoid ticking Darling Smith off. He's pretty sure he did that years ago when he broke her heart. Keep the client safe, no problem, walk away from Darling again not going to happen.
Darling is out to get the goods on her clients cheating husband when she finds herself in jail and irritating the her ex. Not bad for a day's work. She still needs proof the husband's infidelity and the more she looks into the town's golden boy the more she questions his philanthropic tendencies. Who has put her on the top of his hit list and why? How is she suppose to resist Oliver? Can she trust him with her heart as well as her life?
Quick - fast moving story that pulls you in from the opening scene to the climatic conclusion. You will quickly fall in love with Darling, smart, beautiful, witty with a sarcastic witty bite. Oliver is a loner who still feels for Darling and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her safe, find a killer and get some straight answers. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
This book has everything you could possibly ask for in a romantic suspense, including two super strong lead characters with tons of on-the-page chemistry, a deftly plotted mystery, and a villain you can totally boo at along the way. Wrap that all up with a swoon worthy romance and add a unique twist that you won’t see coming, and you pretty much have the perfect read.
You can’t talk about this wonderful book without speaking highly of our main character Darling. She’s everything I love in a romance heroine, with tons of spunk, (although don’t call her spunky- she prefers cute!) and total smarts. I knew from the very first page where she finds herself in jail for snooping and butts heads with an old flame that this girl was something special. You just can’t help but root for this girl to find her HEA.
And then there’s Oliver. Damn, is he ever special?! He finds out that Darling in involved in a big case and immediately knows that sparks are going to fly. I mean, these two characters have a his-tor-y. With a capital H. and he broke Draling’s heart. Bad Oliver! But- lucky for readers, this is a wonderful second chance romance, and he gets the chance to prove to Darling that all of that can be part of their past as they find love once again.
As for the mystery, this book moves at a quick pace and is a total page-turner. Each chapter ends in a way that left me hanging on to the next word to find out what happened next. And the twist. OMG- THE TWIST. You will never see that one coming, and it’s so deliciously intriguing. If you’re looking for a fast-paced, swoon-worthy romance with plenty of taut action and spine-tingling suspense, this book will make you very, very happy. Plus- it’s the first in the Orion Security series, so you know there’s more goodness to come!
A great whodunit suspense in a small town, where a stranger has been found dead in a hotel room. The private investigator, Darling, is up to her ears mixed into the case, and for some odd reason the killer seems to be targeting her. At the same time, the town millionaire has a new bodyguard team to protect him, and the team leader is Oliver, the man who crushed Darling's heard eight years ago. From there, the plot starts to thicken, it is filled with twists and unexpected turns, deadly situations, and dangerous pursuit. It is not so much that I didn't guess who the killer is, but 'the why' kept me pondering. The author is new to me, and I really enjoyed the suspense part, the action was riveting, and the events took imagination. I wish she didn't have to push the romance between the characters, because that's where the story started lacking. Instead of calling the characters by their name, the author often uses their profession, when talking about them, even if it is thinking another character does, 'the bodyguard' 'the private investigator ', and that was a way to keep the characters on the arm's length, they never come personal to the reader, you don't get emotionally invested in their lives and decisions. And so the connection between Oliver and Darling seems more like a courteous professional team effort, than a passionate relationship, that devastated their lives eight years ago, and is shattering their lives foundations now. There was no talk about the past, no clearing the air, and that's too bad, because there could have been such a deep, emotional possibilities there, but it just stayed rather indifferent.
At the end of the book, there's a steaming hot 'happy for now' novella from author Delores Fossen.
I really wish there were half stars. This is really a 3.5 book, but I just could quite get myself to put 4.
I really liked the "who-done-it" aspects of this book. The suspense, the clues, the action - all well done. You don't see the twist coming, either, and that is pretty cool. Some of it was a bit too easy, but actually made sense given that the story is in small town Maine. People would be more likely to divulge info in that kind of comfortable setting.
My issue is with the relationship between Oliver and Darling. For two people that ended "horribly" they seem to fall into step rather quickly. After 8 years. And then there was limited sexual tension; sometimes it seemed like they were stuck in a "friend-zone." His need to protect her seemed, I dunno, forced, maybe? I'm not sure why, but I just couldn't get with the program. And, when we finally find out what happened, the emotion just wasn't quite there. And it could have been. Oh, it could have been beautifully broken, but it was just: "I'm sorry I did this."
I received an ARC via NetGalley from the publisher.
Lots of mystery, suspense, action, humor and romance. The characters are ones I would like to see again. I really like Orion business.
Darling Smith is a P.I.. She was arrested by her ex-boyfriend and before she is out of jail another ex shows up. Darling is smart, does not give up and looks harmless.
Oliver Quinn's works for Orion Security. He is a leader of a three man team that has come to protect Millionair when he comes to town. He hears that someone was arrested on the property that day and goes to jail. He finds his ex Darling in jail.
Darling finds a body at a motel right after getting out of jail. Oliver's client was last seen there with the victim.
Darling is being watched. She keeps getting information and warnings. Both her ex's want her kept safe. I like the banter between the characters. It is set in a small town in Maine in winter.
I would read more books in Orion security series.
I was given this ebook to read by Netgalley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Private Bodyguard.
"With an exciting whodunit mystery and easy-to-like characters with great chemistry, Private Bodyguard is an outstanding lead-out for the launch of Snell’s Orion Security series" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).
When our hero is assigned to protect someone and the cops arrest a woman, he has to see if she would harm the person our hero is protecting. The hero's boss tells him to be nice to the woman. Then when the hero hears our heroine's name he tells his boss a tiny bit about their past and how the woman is not going to be very happy. Our heroine has been hired to track a man down to see if he's been having an affair. However, when she gets arrested and then finds her old love is there to let her out, she doesn't know if he should be happy or sad. However, what they do find themselves in is a murder mystery. As they get loser to figuring out who the killer is, thy also get closer to figuring out they were too young to be together. However is now the time or has their time run out?
This took me a bit to get into the story. However, once you got to know everyone it was a fun ride to the end. The plot and who's done it did keep you guessing as it went. Although I had a feeling I knew who had done it but the reason wasn't clear until the end. The author did a great job in that one.
