300 years ago the Catastrophe, an apocalyptic event, occurred as humans and aliens fought over the Earth. Today the descendants of the survivors of the Catastrophe are forced together to defeat the heinous threat of The Ageless, a group of mutated men and women like no other.

The Last of the Ageless is the debut novel of new author Traci Loudin. I had the fortune to beta read this novel and I have to say while I may be biased I feel she did a splendid job in writing an awesome novel. Traci hits t

I received this book in a giveaway, and I'm very glad that I did. I thought it was an interesting idea for a post apocalyptic world, and enjoyed the characters very much, especially Dalan and Nyr. I would recommend for anyone looking for an interesting Sci Fi/Fantasy mix.

You know how sometimes a book is long and it feels longer? This one was long, but flew by. Traci Loudin painted pictures in my mind of very different groups and tribes all co-existing in a post-apocalyptic world, some peacefully, some not.

I laughed when I read a conversation she had with someone at a faire, where she said it was a book with a bunch of assholes roaming around killing people. That description is more crude than the story is, but there is certainly one character that comes to mind

Closer to 3.75 stars so I rounded up.

The Last of the Ageless by Traci Loudin is a post-apocalyptic novel set three hundred years in the future on after an event referred to the Catastrophe. The events which led to the Catastrophe and since then have altered not only the planet but also the human species. Some humans can age back and forth at will. Others can shift into different kinds of animals. There is also a species known as the Joeys who are part alien and part human. But don't worry, ther

This book has almost everything I like in fiction: apocalypse? Check. A debut author? Check. Humans and aliens fought for the supremacy of Earth about 300 years prior. The story centers around Dalan,a shapeshifter from a tribe of mutants who devote themselves to preserving nigh-extinct species, mostly animals, by taking on their actual forms. To become a full member of his tribe he must pass as series of trials of "adulthood" out in the wastelands, far from home. To say much more would spoil the ...more

I think that I should start by writing that I am not a big fan of fantasy. Come to think of it, I think the only fantasy that I have ever liked was / is Hobbit & Lord of the Rings, which, admittedly, is a very high bar. Even the Narnia series was a bit trying for me, although the movies were pretty good. That written, The Last of the Ageless was not what I thought it to be. In my opinion, this book is not really a post-apocalyptic story in the sense of bad places, or bad things happening in bad ...more

Original, interesting, and easy to read. If you like post-apocalyptic stories, you'll probably enjoy this one. It's set many years after "the Catastrophe" that ended civilization. It's never clear if the story is set in the world we all inhabit in real life or somewhere else. The characters are Purebred, your basic human, and Changelings, humans with all sorts of odd abilities. One of the main characters can transform into an omecdu, which I never really figured out what was (in my brain it was ...more

I won this through goodreads giveaways. I thought it was ok but I just found the story to be a bit hard for me to get into.

I like the idea of some catastrophe happening, and people having to find new ways to survive but I wish we had more info on how it actually happened.

I feel like the idea of this was good but the actual story just doesn't do it for me.

On the plus side, I find this story to be fast paced and the characters likeable.

I'm putting this down for now because I just can't get through it to save my life. The lack of character development is irksome and the characters themselves don't really possess any qualities that are like able. The plot itself is so slow moving that I found keeping myself engaged to be a chore. Also, the science fiction elements utilized were ill explained and confusing at times; I admire the effort to slowly unfold the events of "the catastrophe", but the reader should probably be able to ful ...more

This was a book a won in a giveaway. I was so excited to receive this book in the mail and the timing was perfect as I was just finishing up another book on the day I received it. This is an interesting blend of fantasy and sci-fi. The characters are compelling and the story moves fairly quickly. The world has enough pieces that it leaves it open for future books, but doesn't completely leave the reader hanging on a thread at the end. I was super excited to have this is my first, first-read from ...more

DNF. Sorry to the author, but just couldn't get into it. I wasn't sure what was related to what. It's too busy, too many characters, and a mild frustration with the flow. After the first three chapters, I started to get some of it, but then was thrown quite a curveball. I might try it again down the road. Maybe just not the right time for it now.

Science fiction and fantasy are my great loves, and I have the bookcases to prove it! Please friend me if you love SFF, too. As a young West Virginian, I looked forward to library trips with my mother and the evenings when my father read H.G. Wells to me. Nowadays, I spend my time exploring geeky topics at www.traciloudin.com.

I'd love to hear from you! Please friend me, send me a message, or ask m
