Felt more like a tourism brochure for Auckland than a novel...well a tourism brochure with intimate scenes. It was an interesting read, but because of my ignorance of New Zealand culture and social norms I can't really make an informed decision about the quality of the book. Enjoyed the read regardless. ...more

Because Nikolai Tarei owes a favor he is now scrambling to protect a virgin with a brazen disregard for safety without compromising his own battered heart in this exciting contemporary romance.

Summer’s mission is to have an adventure and a little fun and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as this firecracker keeps Nikolai on this toes. The chemistry is hot and the sex scenes are steamy but really it’s the flying sparks that that have this story blazin’ hot, not only does Summer

I received this story as part of the boxed set Field Stripped. While different from her Middlemarch books, this was a good read. Summer was the not so innocent next door. She was struggling to exert her independence from over protective parents and brothers. Her uncle asked his next door neighbor Nikolai to keep an eye on her while he is away. Summer literally walks in to trouble and then gets herself, Nikloai and his friends deeper into it. This was a good, action packed story.

I am partial to Shelley's shifter stories, but she brought the same heat and snarkiness to this romance. Summer has finally managed to escape her small town and her overprotective family by coming to stay with an uncle in Auckland while she takes a six month course. When her uncle finds love and is ready to depart on his honeymoon, he enlists his neighbor and military friend Nikolai to keep an eye on Summer for him. Summer does not appreciate the insinuation that she needs anyone looking out for ...more

But Summer doesn’t want a babysitter, she’s had enough of that at home and wants to live a little.
Summer accidentally gets the wrong books and takes them to the owner Dare, a restaurant owner with suspect

Book review for Innocent Next Door (Military Men Book 1)

I really enjoyed this book. I laughed. I cried. And I fell in love with the main male character. He is what men should be.
Strong when needed to be. Soft when needed. But not a pushover.
The main female character was funny and lovable. She was the perfect woman for this man.
She lets no one push her around. She take no arguments from no one.
She likes to be asked not ordered to do something.
If you love a book that will make you laugh, cry and m

Spectacular Read

I loved this book by Shelly Munro. It had a wonderfully rich storyline and cast of characters. I devoured every word and wanted more. There are laughs, romance, intrigue mystery to pull you in as Nikolai is asked to do this next door neighbor a favor by watching over his 22 year-old niece during the summer while her uncle is away on his honeymoon. What transpires when Summer intercepts some library books that contain secret information and they lead her in to harms path with loca

I love this story. It was fantastic! I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I love really anything by this author.

Summer wants to experience life. She believes she has the chance when she visits her uncle. He goes on vacation and asks his neighbor, Nikolai to look in on her. Nikolai doesn't want to 'babysit' anyone. He is still recovering from an injury that has benched him from SAS. Summer ends up getting into some trouble by accident and needs Nikolai to help her

Summer is only 22 and has been overprotected by her family due to childhood asthma. Managing to get a job in Auckland gives her a chance to spread her wings and live a little.
Whilst coming across as a naive young woman I loved her vivacity and her way of standing up for herself against all these tough military SAS men, her brothers included but with a big smile on her face.

I enjoyed this fun, steamy and sweet romance. I liked both characters. Nikolai carried some pretty heavy baggage. It was easy to feel sympathy for him and I really wanted him to let go of the past and find some happiness. Summer, was a split decision for me. I really liked her determination and her feistiness. She was only twenty-two, innocent and overprotected but I really wanted her to be savvier. I mean she was a librarian and supposedly a master researcher. So even without street smarts I di ...more

I enjoyed reading Nikolai and Summer's story which had some suspense and laugh out loud moments. Summer is trying out her independence away from her over protective brothers. Unfortunately, Nik is from the same mold and tries to keep his distance while watching out for her. This was a really fun read and I enjoyed going the adventures that Summer managed to find herself on. She put a lot of research into what she wanted while away from home and you can't help but cheer her on, while finding yourself giggling over her banter and inner racy thoughts. As with all Shelley Munro books, this book did not disappoint. Shelley is an amazing writer and this book was great to read. The story of Nikolai and Summer is a fun love story with a bit of suspense. You can’t help but fall in love with both of these characters. Summer is witty with a yearning for adventure and Nikolai is the more serious one to make a perfect for each other couple. A truly enjoyable read.

Summer was staying at her uncle's house while doing a course at the library. When he went on his honeymoon, he asked his neighbour Nikolai to keep an eye on her as it was her first time away from home. Not only were Summer's two brothers bossy and overprotective, but so was Nik. Summer gets herself into a world of trouble and needs Nik's help to keep her safe. Summer is spreading her wings or she was trying until things went wonky. The hot neighbor next door wants to put restrictions on her that she was trying to get away from with her family. I love being able to enjoy a story in more than a single way. I love the romance/relationship side, but I also love being able to laugh & enjoy the read. This was a fun read with great characters that I enjoyed reading about. It introduced a range of characters that are free to enjoy their own story in the future without overloading on so many characters so it becomes confusing. Does not end in a cliffhanger. It's a great start to a new series from this author. ...more

I have mixed feelings about this book. The story is good, but the characters are over the top. Summer is always talking about being an adult then acts like a teenager. There are too many “macho” men for my taste. Alpha males are okay, macho isn’t. I usually like books by this author but I can’t say this is one of my favorites.
