Some interesting takes, but largely felt rather overdone. Each chapter seemed to repeat itself, filling the reader with a sense of being lectured, as if I were simple. I enjoyed the overall mindset presented, and honestly feel there is real value in the message. It’s probably just 100 pages too long (fluffed out for the sake of it). Despite it not reading brilliantly, I feel it still worthwhile if you’re someone who struggles to perform under pressure, or is ridiculously competitive for no good reason (as I am 😅)
Sorry, but this is a waste of time. I feel sorry because Sylvester genuinely believes he has a unique message for mankind. Unfortunately for him, the message is nothing but a collection of platitudes and homilies. I am not sure if he set out to right a sports psychology book as 90 percent of his case studies are sports-related. Even these stories have little to teach to someone seeking motivation. In fact, there is not a single idea here that one could implement in their lives. 'Detox' should ideally have been a 1000-word essay. The publisher must have been really desperate for this book to have seen the light of the day. The additional star here is strictly for poor old Sylvie's sincerity towards a lost cause.
Saw my idol reading this book and that's when I decided to give it a go. It's a strong and solid book giving complete analysis of how ego affects an individual. Must read!
Read this when it first came out and have re read again. It is repetitive but I can tell it's for a reason. If you follow the steps as set out by the author it's so helpful to make changes in your life. I also have used a highlighter pen over some of the steps to remind me. Very usefulDetox Your EgoSteven Sylvester
The overall content of this book seems to be good . I completely agree most of the points the author puts forth. The only issue is I felt the book was very repetitive . Could have been more concise . The book might actually help people who are struggling with their ego , provided they put effort into the exercise and questions etc.
