This was an amazing read. I thought it was a nice romance. The story was very interesting. I love these couples. However, I wonder what will happen to the characters. There were some moments of laughter. It was nice to see the interaction between opposites. A nerd is in love with a bad-ass rich girl. A former jock is in love with a quiet reporter/journalist student.

After the first book in the Frosh series, First Blush, ended with a cliffhanger, I was pretty anxious to get my hands on Second Chances to find out what was going to happen next. While I didn’t end up loving the sequel as much as the first book, I did enjoy seeing some of my favorite characters again and getting some answers for my unanswered questions.

After the first book in the Frosh series, First Blush, ended with a cliffhanger, I was pretty anxious to get my hands on Second Chances to find out what was going to happen next. While I didn’t end up loving the sequel as much as the first book, I did enjoy seeing some of my favorite characters again and getting some answers for my unanswered questions.

Second Chances picks up a few weeks after First Blush ends, as Daniella (Ellie) returns to Hillson University hoping to move forward from the damage that her scandalous article caused and maybe even fix her relationship with Grant. But no one has forgotten what she has done and things take a turn for the worst when the University decides to cancel football until the accusations made in Ellie’s article have been investigated. Determined to make things right, Ellie takes matters into her own hands, but what happens next may lead her to saying goodbye to Hillson University for good.

Devon and Charlie may come different lifestyles, but their attraction for one another is undeniable. Although her mother does not approve of Charlie, Devon is willing to do whatever it takes to make things work. Even if that means targeting a certain reporter to get what she wants.

Going into the Second Chances, I had an easier time adjusting to the writing style since I was already familiar with it. This book is told from the four POVs of our main characters, Elle, Grant, Devon and Charlie, and while that may take some time to get use to, the transition from one POV to the next was a lot smoother in the second installment than it was in the first. My main issue with this book though was the pacing. It was a little too fast and I wished certain things were dragged out more and that some issues did not have such easy fixes. There was also not as much suspense like there was in the first book and for the most part, the ending was a bit predictable.

I still love that characters as much as I did in the first book. Ellie is strong and determined and she puts up with a lot in this book, including being slut-shamed and tormented by a sorority. Despite others telling her that it would be in best safety to leave the University, she is determined to make things right even if it’s the last thing she does. I really enjoyed watching Grant as he tried to find his new passion now that he is no longer on the football team. I also loved how he was so willing to go out of his way to help Ellie, even though he didn’t want her to go through with her plan in the first place. He stuck by her side and these two become very close by the end of this book. I still have a love/hate relationship with Devon. Devon has good intentions and wants to do the right thing, but she’s also very selfish and she doesn’t care who she hurts, she just wants what she wants. She does start to better herself by the end of this book and I hope she continues this in the final installment. And of course, we also have Charlie, who is my fave! He’s still sweet as ever and he does a lot of growing in this book as he finds out the identity of his father and he tries to learn more about this other side of himself. Devon and Charlie’s relationship face many obstacles throughout this book and things are on the rock at this point and I’m scared because even though I don’t really like Devon, I think these two work great for each other and I hope things work out for them.

While I didn’t love Second Chances as much as I wanted to, I still enjoyed seeing how things were resolved for Ellie and I’m excited to see where Ellie and Grant’s relationship goes from here. I’m nervous as hell though for Devon and Charlie’s relationship because there looks like there may be a love triangle and that is the last thing I want to happen as my ships are already set and I don’t want them to sink. I’m crossing my fingers for an HEA for Charlie and Devon because they very much deserve it. ...more

This was a fast and easy read. It's been quite a while since I had read the first book in the series, but once I got into this one I started to remember who was who, and what had happened. At least enough for me to read without confusion haha.

There were our usual great favourite main characters along with some secondary ones as well. There were also a few hidden life lessons in this story.

It is wonderful when you get a second chance at love or to make a difference and fix things but with university kids, it's much more than that, there is a lot of pride and peer pressure along the way. For Grant and Ellie, this was an opportunity to make things right and try to salvage what they once had. Book one, First Blush ended in a cliffhanger, so I wanted to know what happened to all our MCs: Ellie, Grant, Devon, and Charlie. This book picks up a few months after the big scandal, which sent Grant's world into a tailspin, and made Ellie the Hillson pariah. Though Grant and Ellie were dealing with many changes, things were going swimmingly for Charlie and Devon.

Each couple was presented with obstacles. Devon and Grant had to deal with the backlash from the football ban, and Ellie's indecisi Book one, First Blush ended in a cliffhanger, so I wanted to know what happened to all our MCs: Ellie, Grant, Devon, and Charlie. This book picks up a few months after the big scandal, which sent Grant's world into a tailspin, and made Ellie the Hillson pariah. Though Grant and Ellie were dealing with many changes, things were going swimmingly for Charlie and Devon.

Each couple was presented with obstacles. Devon and Grant had to deal with the backlash from the football ban, and Ellie's indecision about staying at Hillson. Charlie and Devon had to deal with their differing socioeconomic statuses. Could Charlie, the son of waitress, ever be good enough for Devon, an heiress and Hillson royalty?

In addition, each individual had a personal struggle. Ellie was being harassed. Grant was feeling adrift without football to anchor his identity. Devon was dealing with her brother's addiction, her mother's disapproval of Charlie and claiming her legacy. Charlie was struggling with his feelings for Devon, his outting, and a new found family secret.

I appreciate the way the characters grew from book 1 to this book. I liked that Wagner softened Devon's edges a little, making her more human and less fembot. I also liked the changes in Grant, but did wish for a little more depth there. Charlie is still my favorite (well, him and Sorenson), and I was a little disappointed in his family secret storyline. It felt too rushed for something so important.

I have to agree with other reviewers, in that, I would love to delve into some of the secondary characters. Sorenson won a place in my heart in book 1, and he solidified his standing in this book. He deserves a bigger piece of this plot, as he is quite interesting (way more interesting than Ellie). We also get a little bit of Andrew's story, and I think there is something intriguing about him, and we have only scratched the surface there.

Overall: Another soapy cliffy (not in a bad way), which I look forward to seeing resolved.

This is book #2, in the Frosh series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid spoilers, and have a better understanding of the series, I recommend reading this in order.

Following the couples of Grant & Ellie, Devon & Charlie, this story continues as we head into further mayhem at school with these adorkable peeps. Grant is through with football and trying to adjust to classes. Charlie is finding he can be more than the nerd.

After reading the first book in this series I was pretty excited to read Second Chances since the first one ended in a cliffhanger but I didn't end up loving it nearly as much as the first. I'm glad I got to see some loose ends tied up. I couldn't keep interested in this one as much. Probably because it had been a little bit after I read the first book.

I really enjoy her writing and look forward to read more of the author!

I am a lover of Cora Carmack Rush University series and heard that this series was along those lines so Monica had some big shoes to fill and boy did she step up to the plate and deliver a home run :) This story was filled with steamy love scenes, twisted secret clubs, mean catty girls, and a story line that kept you guess where it was going. However in the end I really did enjoy reading this book and would like to see what else she has going on in this series.

There's something about this series that makes me want to find out what happens to the characters, yet there always seems to be something missing. The story and characters are great, but something seems to get lost in the execution.

While there were quite a few things that were predictable in this book, it wasn't as obvious as the first book in the series. I also felt that the flow was better in this book, so I can see the author's growth in writing.

Although I am aware that books need to have conflict to have a story that will keep the interest of its readers, it can get annoying when NONE OF THE CHARACTERS TALK TO EACH OTHER ABOUT THEIR ISSUES. So many problems wouldn't be problems if that was the case. As much as that can annoy me, it was nice to have one of the characters acknowledge the fact.

The cliffhanger in this book isn't as abrupt as the one in the first book. I appreciate that. I'm usually fine with cliffhangers if I'm pre-warned, but some seem to stop mid-sentence. We get some conclusions while there are still others up in the air when this book comes to an end. It ends at a nice place that didn't leave me mad.

Devon was back to giving me whiplash in this book, but we also get to meet her mom and kind of understand her a bit more. The Devon/Charlie storyline broke my heart while gave me hope that Devon is going to eventually find her heart. I just adore Charlie and want him to be happy.

I didn't totally understand how Ellie was to blame for all that happened between the end of book one and the beginning of book two. Don't get me wrong, I understand why the students treated her the way they did (although I don't agree with or condone their actions). Young adults can be jerks and there is a mob mentality that often takes hold on college campuses. But once all was explained, I don't really understand Grant's actions or the actions of the school officials. I guess all that happened needed to happen for the story to make sense. But still, it confused me a bit.

The story and characters are interesting enough that I will continue this series with the hopes the writing will continue to smooth out along the way. ...more

This book was more of a YA story. It focuses on the lives of 4 Freshman college students and the aftermath of a terrible scan.

I didn't read the first part of this series so I didn't come into this book with any real investments in any of the relationships and I kinda liked that. I could see relationships shifting and being amazing and exciting! I liked seeing the story play out and not rushing to forgiveness, Grant actually took his time to process his feelings even though he wanted to be with Ellie right away.
