Novel is set in the south in 1940s & 1950s - It's the story of Jimmy, a young music prodigy, who first plays piano for an audience at age five and receives a standing ovation. He’s also psychic, can foresee the future, and sometimes can see dead people. His unusual gifts must be kept secret because of the superstition of many; fear of the strange or purportedly supernatural. Jimmy has a younger sister, Becca, who is adorable, but has no special gifts or talent. Elizabeth is their doting mother, and submissive wife to Edward, who is a controlling, surly drunk, and a poor excuse for a husband and father. There is celebration in the household while Edward is away in a mental institution, suffering from a nervous breakdown. Happiness abounds, and Elizabeth becomes more independent and self-assured during Edward's absence. But there is shock and sorrow when the happiness abruptly ends with a devastating tragedy.
Writing has always been an enjoyable activity for me, but even more so in this phase of my life (retirement). I've written four books, the most recent of which is "Angels Play Pianos." And I have written several articles about current issues which are posted on www.ezinearticles.com.
“Angels Play Pianos” is in paperback and ebook format; available at amazon.com, bn.com, and most retailers and distributors. There is a direct link to Amazon.com on my personal website, www.patinsandiego.com.
I live in San Diego, California, but lived the first seventeen years of my life in a small town in Arkansas.
My interests are writing, reading, music, and spectator sports, which include tennis, baseball and football.
I've worked as a volunteer at a Food Bank, a Library, and a Hospice Program.
I really enjoyed this book. It touched me. I love to play the piano but I have not had much time as an adult. There was sad moments for me and happy moments for me in this book. I think it is definitely worth a read. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
