For countless centuries, the evil known only as Dracula has terrorized the Transylvanian countryside. Every attempt to destroy his evil has failed, leaving the villagers of Vasaria in despair for generations. A sliver of hope arrives through an unlikely alliance with a small pack of werewolves who have been waging their own war against Dracula's evil tyranny. While the villagers and the werewolves struggle among themselves in addition to Dracula's forces, another unforeseen force becomes Dracula's half-vampire-half-human son, Alucard, who appears to have joined the fight against his father. While Alucard adds additional and much-needed assistance in the battle against Dracula, his intentions are less clear. Is he heroically freeing the world from his father's evil, or does he have his own nefarious agenda in mind?
Got this cause I had heard it had a Castlevania vibe to it and obviously I'm a man who loves me some Castlevania. This book is filled with pretty much everything I love, vampires, werewolves, hobgoblins, even a freaking sasaquatch! Unfortunately though it didn't really come together for me, felt pretty fan fictiony and it was overwrought with characters. I did like the stuff with Alucard but I don't think you even meet him until over 100 pages in. Overall it might be worth checking out if you're a monsterhound but maybe don't get your hopes too high.
Though not my normal genre, this book was intriguing and kept my attention. The story of "the beginning" at the start of Alucard was very interesting, and it got me connected to the characters right away. I'm looking forward to the second book in the series to continue the story!
