Sweet, poetic book for bedtime reading. We loved the lyrical way the narrative flowed as well as the onomatopoeia of the night sounds. The illustrations by G. Brian Karas have a soft, muted feel and complement the narrative nicely. We really enjoyed reading this book together.

To my illustrator's mind, this book is one of the most wonderful pictorial narratives ever. It's so perfect and so evocative and so rich and so right in the things it calls to mind. I can smell the wood of the attic, and hear that bonging bell in the steeple. And I can feel the love. It's so quiet and peaceful and thoughtful and tender. Like all Karas' work he does an enormous amount very simply. It's profoundly beautiful. Add to that a beyond exquisite text. This one will live right beside my bed.
