Genevieve proposes marriage to her best friend/tutor so that she can help him get his green card. Adam has had a crush on Gen since he first saw her but knew she was out of his league. He's a geeky scientist whose focus is on his thesis and she is a beautiful woman who could get any guy she wants. When faced with the idea of Adam having to leave the country, Gen immediately wants to marry him. Adam thinks it's just to help a friend but Gen feels more for Adam than he knows.
I really enjoyed this story. This is the third book in the Silver Strands series but can be read as a standalone. I love the friendship between Adam and Gen. I love that Adam is a sexy geek and that Gen could appreciate his intelligence but also bring out his fun and romantic side. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to read more books in this series.

I really enjoyed this story. This is the third book in the Silver Strands series but can be read as a standalone. I love the friendship between Adam and Gen. I love that Adam is a sexy geek and that Gen could appreciate his intelligence but also bring out his fun and romantic side. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to read more books in this series.

Own Me by Lexi Scott is the third novel in the Silver Strands series. I went into this book, not having read anything else in the series, so yes, it can be read as a standalone and will fully support itself. It's told from an alternating third person point-of-view, and is written extremely well. No awkward moments, no slow downs, it's just right.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and a lot of it was due to the main characters. They have chemistry, but they are also both in denial about the other one. From the very first chapter, you can practically feel the tension between these Adam and Gen, and yet... each thinks the other only sees them as a friend.
Adam is the extremely smart, and I don't mean just book smart, handsome guy who basically alienates people when he starts talking science. They get that glazed over look, but he tries his darnedest to explain complex matters that go over most peoples heads. It comes across as endearing and comical at the same time. He's known Gen since he first got to the U.S., she was hist first friend, and his closest... and she's been trying to set him up with one of her various friends for years.
The first thing that comes to mind for me with Gen is her shoes, probably because I'm a shoe lover. She won't wear anything without a huge heel on it. She's always dressed up, looks good and is pretty much oblivious that Adam would even look at her outside of friendship. She's had her own heart broken and is trying to move past it. The best way I can even explain Gen is that she made me smile. She cares about her family, her friends, she loyal, and she's just plain stubborn about some things. Oh and glitter. I laughed so much at Gen's glitter and rhinestones.
They end up having to over come a few things, but it added to their characters and their relationship together.
All in all, I gave this book a four star rating. It entertained me, it made me laugh, it made me smile, and I just flat out enjoyed it. I was almost sad when it ended. I'd highly recommend this one, not just for the characters, but the story itself. Friends to lovers, and not to mention it really is a different type of plot, so it makes it a bit different. :D

Adam Abramowitz is a graduate student/scientist in training whose thesis research is going the tank at the same time his visa is running out. But then he has a sweet and sexy fellow student to tutor, Genevieve Rodriguez, who offers to get down on one knee to keep him here permanently.
A green card is what ultimately brings them together, but it’s also the source of their troubles. Adam and Genevieve are bit of opposites attract. Her a free spirit; him a logical thinker. Their methods don’t blend but their hearts sure do. This is a cute, sweet, and sexy romance with an original premise. Their quandary is not one I’ve read about before so that was a refreshing change.
What was also a refreshing change was the way the story was focused on their romance and their journey. While Genevieve is dealing with moving past the crush of her life getting married, this isn’t a story riddled with interference from scheming exs or other people out to split them up. On the contrary, it’s a completely exclusive relationship guided by elders and peers that know when do dispense valuable words of wisdom and advice.
“‛You’re at this beautiful, exciting age, but your brain is rewiring and your heart is tender. Life is flying by around you, and you feel like there’s too much to grab onto, but if you don’t, you’ll be left behind.”
This story really focuses on what it takes to make a relationship work and in the process throws out plenty of valuable love lessons as the pair negotiate their new unconventional marriage. The romance has a great build up so there’s no insta love or insta lust even though to their family it appears they’ve rushed things. And once Genevieve and Adam finally hit the sheets, it’s plenty steamy!

Own Me captures the elements of young love but also struggles that marriages can go through at any stage as well as the difference among the sexes.
Told via Genevieve and Adam’s alternating first person point of view, both characters are adorable. Genevieve is a strong, feisty girly-girl, and Adam is a swoon-worthy nerdy type with a ton of integrity and respect for the woman he loves. The story is light-hearted and engaging. I was sweating right along with poor Adam when it came to Immigration interrogation and I laughed out loud at the “bathroom vooddo” part. I really enjoyed reading about them, and while there is an epilogue with their HEA, I craved just a little more of them reaching their goals, particularly Genevieve. All in all it’s a great story with a great message for young lovers and old.
Part of the Silver Strands series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. This is the first one I’ve read.

As a teen I would read a lot of Sweet Valley High stories. The Silver Strands series takes me back to that time. Young people dealing with grown up struggles as they take the plunge into making adult decisions. Own Me fits right into that format. Genevieve and Adam are thrown together at a time when they both are at their most vulnerable. What ends up developing is an affinity. As they get to know one another, an affection starts to grow that leads in a direction neither expected. An endearing look into a young adult relationship that is told with maturity and hidden layers of emotion. I received an ARC of Own Me by Lexi Scott in exchange for an honest review.

Genevieve has been getting tutored by Adam for a while now. So, when he confides in her that he is looking at being deported back to Israel, she vows to help him figure it out. However, at her brother's engagement party where not only are her aunt's and family members asking her when she will get married, and her life-long crush is giving her pitying looks while snuggling close to his new bride, Genevieve blurts out the one thing that will shut everyone up and solve Adam's problem. You guessed it, her and Adam (who just so happens to be one of the caterers at the event) are getting married! The only problem is, while they went into this expecting it to be a short-term platonic deal, as the wedding day approaches they find themselves taking the sanctity of marriage a little more seriously. This is a great case of friends to lovers where the line gets blurred but neither person is willing to fully cross the line.
Own Me rocked my world! I honestly wasn't excepting much but a nice romance story but WOW! I mean, there's no fancy footwork, no smoke and mirrors. Own Me is in fact a sweet romance, but it's one that consumed me until the very end. I mean, here you have Genevieve who is the baby of a large Hispanic family. Everyone thinks she slacks off and doesn't take life seriously. Then you have Adam who is from a very small Jewish family. A family where it's pretty much just him and his disapproving father. To add to that, Adam is a total nerd. He's in the states studying yeast. Yes, YEAST! I honestly don't get it but I suppose someone needs to review and catalog what happens to yeast in different settings. Right? Yeah, I still don't know about that, but that is what I loved about them. You have Adam who is all sciencey and is a little OCD about having things on flash cards and data charts. Meanwhile, you have care-free Genevieve who wears impractical high heels and tight clothes, and is a serial dater. Genevieve is totally the yin to his yang. These two were absolutely PERFECT for each other.
"She's the funny, outgoing beauty. I'm her serious, geeky friend. I think there's a pretty popular sitcom based on this exact situation."
I liked that the authors didn't add some crazy drama in to spice things up. That for me is what really made this story amazing. It's honestly two really good friends trying to help each other out, who then ultimately fall in love. Sure there's the whole immigration looming over their heads but that's about it. Nothing abnormal or overly dramatic. OH and the immigration "interrogation" (as Adam called it) was amazing. Kind of reminded me of that clip from The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. I mean, you have this immigrations employee asking Adam about where they store their toilet paper and he just goes off into this tangent about abuelita's and creepy crochet dolls. It was pretty funny. In fact, some of the spastic things that Adam does and says throughout the book was hilarious.
Not only was the story funny but oh-my-word does the author like to steam up the pages. I mean, seriously. Just wow. I didn't know that nerdy Adam could get so sensual in the bedroom. My goodness. Yeah. I just need to move on.
Obviously, I could go on and on about this book. I loved it! Own Me has believable characters, humor, seriously sexy scenes, and great writing to back it all up. It is great as a stand-alone which is exactly how I read it. However, after reading this, I am definitely going back and reading the previous two books.
Favorite part...
Their wedding. There were just so many touching parts to it that I was swooning all over the damn place. This is just one of the parts (and shortest) that stuck out to me.
"Down at the impossibly long aisle, Adam waits for me under the chuppah, his hands clasped behind his back, his face blank with terror.
Until he catches my eye.
His forehead furrows and he dips his head. He rubs a hand over his face and looks up, eyed wide. And I realize my scientist husband-to-be was wiping away tears.

Good thing the beautiful, seemingly unobtainable Genevieve Rodriguez (the student he's tutoring) offers Adam her hand in marriage...

But what begins as a marriage of convenience for Adam and Gen, ends as something much, much more—although both Adam and Gen are desperate to hide their real-and-true feelings for one another, as they fear tainting their already-fragile, unconventional relationship.
“It’s complicated. I guess I just thought that Adam and I were on the same page, and now… now I think maybe we’re too far apart to come back together. I’m not sure he loves me the same way that I love him. Or at all.”
...which, I have to admit, some people may be put off by Adam and Gen's intense push-and-pull for one another—but I understood their reservations, their fears, and their intense, I-want-you-I-need-you-but-I-can't-have-you-forever, didn't bother me. Probably because the book had so many lighthearted, laughable moments woven into the story, that there was an enjoyable balance to it all.
"I'm just going to lay this out honestly, as your friend, okay? Pinksnoggle23@gmail? Brain cells die every time I even think of about that user name."
Besides really, really loving the simplicity and originality of this book's storyline, Adam was my favorite part about this book. He was such a contrast to the usual cookie-cutter Hero's—with his nerdy-nature, mismatched outfits, mad-scientist tendencies—and it was so refreshing!
“My husband is an incredibly kind, handsome genius. Like that’s not enough, he has the biggest cock I’ve ever seen.’”
As much as I loooooooooved Adam's character, I was a bit disappointed in Gen's. She started off as so strong, so glamorous, and feisty—but, somewhere along the way, she lost that oomph that made me love her. I never disliked her; just was disappointed that her character didn't seem to grow as the storyline developed. I would've liked to have seen more of Gen being found, instead of seeming lost.
Overall, Own Me was a great friends-to-lovers romance—and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a sweet read about two very opposite people, journeying through life and love together.

Own Me is Genevieve's turn, she is one Cohen's younger sisters. Her life isn't exactly a bed of roses, she is on the verge of failing classes, has had one relationship after the other, trying to find someone to replace Deo, her crush, and her family just don't seem to understand her at all.
Adam is her tutor, but his life is now going to be turned upside down. Delaying the inevitable, Adam finds himself being sent back home to Israel, thesis or no thesis, and is stuck on trying to find a way to stay, and finish it.
A rash decision is made, and out of convenience, Genevieve, pretends that Adam is her fiancé, to try and convince Deo, and her family that she is finally over him, and to allow Adam to stay in the country and finish his thesis. Adam and Genevieve soon find themselves planning a wedding, of convenience and not for love, and finding out what their true feelings really are.
Own Me is the first time in this series we have a leading lady as the protagonist, and while you would expect Genevieve to be strong and determined, she also has flaws. Blinded by her crush on Deo she finds it hard to settle down and find the one person who she truly loves. Her flighty attitude means her family don't see her options in school as anything series, they just humour her, waiting for her to finish and go to work in their store. Even her dress sense gives the wrong impression of her, you would honestly think she had nothing going on for her, but she is smart, she is clever, and she is an amazing person.
For me Genevieve is a real person, flaws and all, and although she does not know all the answers she tries her best to make it work, and when all else fails, Marigold is there to help Genevieve, a shinning light in the darkness, someone who Genevive is the only one there for her.
Adam was someone who appealed to me immediately, he is geeky but also smart, and rather than thinking in an illogical way, anything that can use scientific explanation as a way for it happening, Adam uses it, even down to being attracted to Genevive. I love how he cares for Genevive and how he treats her, and while I think he does distance himself from her for a while, I could understand his reasoning for it, I just think a quick phone call could have solved it all.
Own Me also has the familiar faces we are used to by now, and I like how the boys are with Adam, making sure he is worthy of Genevive. I also admire how Adam is with them, determined to show he can provide for Genevive, and that he is worthy of her love.
Own Me has all the elements of the previous book, while there is a lot less surfing, there is romance, friendship, and plenty of sexy times.

"Marry me and stay my best friend."
It started with an accidental marriage proposal, for convenience that is. Out of whim (or panic), the hottie Genevieve Rodriguez proposes marriage to her nerdy friend and tutor, Adam Abramowitz when he told him that his visa was about to expire and he has to return to Israel.
Being in Silver Strand has never made her so miserable. She never felt so lost. She was starting to move on, after losing her long-time crush got married to someone else, and she was one “D” away from getting kicked out of school. Now, she finds out that her friend and tutor was about to get deported because of an expiring Visa.
It started out to be an idea, or more of a joke, until it was not. Until everything was starting to be tangible and was beginning to get real. Everything was changing between them, and in their lives. They were starting to grow not just as a couple, but individually. Both of them have their shortcomings and some moments where you want to smash their heads, but they worked hard to make their relationship work despite the differences and the circumstance that brought them together.
Gen was just adorable, a little lost at first and you’d think they won’t suit. But being with the nerdy Adam had allowed her to grow up and think beyond her needs. He was good for her. As for Adam, my heart will always have this huge space for nerdy geeks. He did his best to be the best husband to Gen. He did have some inadequacies but then he makes up for it quite nicely. You’d love every character you meet in OWN ME, not just Gen and Adam! Her family, Deo and most especially Deo’s mom, even the lady from the immigration office.
It's fun, sweet and heartwarming. It’s not an extraordinary plot, but it’s the kind of book that you would never get tired of re-reading. Perfect for the stormy weather we have here right now, Lexi Scott (these two awesome authors) just made sure you this one would be unputdownable.

Fictionalized stories of marriages of convenience can easily be found in books, movies, and television shows, but they also happen to be common occurrences for migrants seeking more permanent status in the country they've been living in for quite some time. I've heard tales of people agreeing to marry someone needing a green card in exchange for money, but that certainly wasn't the case for Genevieve and Adam. These two were the closest of friends, though the fact that they weren't privy to more personal aspects of each other's lives makes me wonder how they could really consider each other as "best friends", and Genevieve's offer to marry Adam was far more beneficial for the latter than the former. These two had chemistry and obviously fell in love along the way, which makes their love story rather cute and sweet.
The friends to lovers story line is one of my personal favorites and it certainly worked here, especially with the added twist of the two friends needing to marry as soon as possible due to Adam's visa status. I enjoyed how Genevieve and Adam navigated their way along the new territory that came along with their plan to become "bonded" and then later on, a married couple. Yes, they were friends but I like that there were transitions that the two had to go through because making it appear as everything was easy-peasy would have taken away from the story. It was fun having the main characters from the first two books, newlyweds Deo and Whit Beckett and engaged couple Cohen Rodriguez and Maren Walshe, play some role in Genevieve and Adam's relationship as well. Overall, Own Me was quite enjoyable and gets 4.5 stars, rounded off to five stars. ♥

Genevieve Rodriguez is the baby of the family and more often than not, is getting lectured. She’s almost flunking out of school and despite trying her best, she can’t seem to win over her large family.

When her tutor, Adam Abramowitz is facing deportation, what’s a friend to do? Marry him, duh. She needs her family out of her hair to get her life together, and he needs his green card. Seems fool proof, right?

A “marriage of convenience” seems logical on paper but things start to get messy when feelings are involved. But it once the ball gets rolling, it’s hard to back out of the marriage.
“Genevieve Rodriguez is making me a better person. She’s making me feel things, do things, want things I never expected to. She’s making me believe in the possibility of more.”
I have to admit, after reading the premise for this book, I was so afraid it was going to be one of those stories, where you jump into what seems like the middle of them falling in love. It was so fun seeing how Adam and Genevieve actually develop past just their friendship. At the same time, it was so frustrating having them both hide their feelings from each other!! If we’ve learned anything from main characters, hiding your feelings never works out. Ever. Like never, ever.
“I’m petrified that my one shot with you was wasted on a lie. I should have wooed you the day we met.”
I absolutely hate being able to predict how things turn out and while some parts were predictable, there was just enough cuteness to balance it out. I wasn’t overwhelmingly in love with the characters but as a quick read in between some of the other heavier ones I’ve read recently, it was a nice change.

Genevieve Rodriguez has been putting up a forceful front after finding out her long time crush is marrying someone else. Pretending she is okay, she has leaned on her friend and tutor Adam Abramowitz but doesn't realize that Adam is dealing with issues of his own.
When Gen finds out that Adam is being sent back home to Israel, because of his Visa she feels like this is another bow. Making a rash decision Gen comes up with a fake proposal/marriage while Adam plays along. As they fall into a new relationship both are fighting the true feelings that are starting to grow. With the pressure of pulling the pretend marriage off for immigration and keeping up appearances, the facade is beginning to crack and both are going to have to face what they really want from one another, do they work it out or walk away.
This is a great series. I ended up reading book 1+3, not sure how I missed 2 but this was a story that held it's own and gives you enough of the back stories to not be confused. I liked Adam, he was a bit of a surprise because when you first meet him he comes off a little clinical and he breaks his own mold. Gen I felt for as her family are pretty blunt about trying to sort her out even if she doesn't want their help. I thought the awkwardness that Gen felt about her crush marrying someone else was spot on, you felt the emotions and understood her inner turmoil. Great read.

I got to 7% last night before I had to give in to my eyelids. Those same eyelids woke up at a stupid time this morning but I still couldn't help picking my Kindle back up, even though I should have gone back to sleep... I laid in bed with the dog and read to 30% and only moved then because I really need to do something productive with my bank holiday weekend.
This review was meant to me live by the 28th of August but due to last minute work changes I just couldn't finish the last in time to start this. I've also noticed while glancing over the promo post that this isn't book one... oh no... so that means I'm already adding these books to my kindle before I've even finished this story.
So far I'm enjoying it. I like the MC's Gen and Adam, and I'm definitely reading along hoping that one of them kisses the other again, these two have chemistry, which is amazing when you can feel that when you're only reading a book... willing them both on and hoping that they'll have a happy life, short or long... God help me though if they don't before 50%!
It didn't happen before 50% but when the sexual tension snaps, it snaps! *fans self*
This is my kind of love story. Two friends helping each other out - even if it is illegal and in the name of a green card- that turns into something true.
They've known each other years, both Jewish which is how they met. Gen is the beautiful, looks ditsy but is smart one and Adam is the geeky on the outside but freaking hot under his clothes one. What's not to love so far.
Adam doesn't want to be deported and Gen wants her freedom. Obviously that means you get married right? Right. Whirlwind bonding/engagement and the next you're married for convenience. ta-dah!
Next is the friends with benefits part - only neither one is happy still being friends but neither one admits it believing the other can do better in some way. It's not until they're interviewed by the interrogation office that things slip up.
Gen ends up back at her parents and Adam ends up in his lab. Then suddenly things click and the truth comes out - over Sunday dinner. It's just a shame that their feelings couldn't have been spoken more romantically or as public but I guess to say what he did in front of her parents, took more guts than anything.

Own Me by Lexi Scott is book three in the Silver Strand series. Genevieve Rodriguez’s life isn’t going quite the way she has planned. Her long-time crush Deo has recently married someone else. Her college career is about as close to failing as it could possibly be. She is working in her families furniture store and life as she knows it couldn’t get anymore bleak. The one highlight she has is her tutor – Adam Abramowitz. While they have become close friends, he is all by the books, scientific guy. And while she flirts with him and plays with his intellect she secretly is completely and totally into him.
But Adam’s student visa is about up and with the deadline looming he is worried he will be deported. Gen quickly devises a plan for her best friend to stay in the states and for her to move out of her overbearing families house. She will marry Adam and move into the married dorms with him. But will Adam go for the plan? Will he accept the gift of staying in the states since he desperately does not want to return to Israel and his disapproving father. And if they do go through with this – will immigration believe them and let Adam stay?
Genevieve Rodriguez is a spitfire of a woman. While she is struggling to find herself in not only her family but her own life – she knows one thing is for certain. She would do anything to keep her best friend in the United States. And anything may include a sham marriage that may get Adam deported and her thrown into jail. Gen is an amazing woman with so much potential, and the only person that really can see it at the moment is her best friend Adam. He encourages her to be the best person she can be. He makes her want to be a better person. And she will not let that be taken away by some stupid expired student visa. Will Gen’s family accept Adam on such a short courtship? Will they find out the truth? And will her fake marriage change the one friendship she is fighting to keep?
Adam Abramowitz is all books and science. He has his life experiment he has been slaving over and he completely forgot about renewing his visa. With the expiration date looming he isn’t sure what he is going to do. His best friend comes up with a solution – but can he be so selfish as to take her up on her offer. Especially knowing that one day their fake marriage will end and she will divorce him to be with someone she truly cares about.
Each book in this series is wonderful and thought provoking. This one truly hit home. I absolutely loved both Gen and Adam’s characters. They truly complete each other – fulfilling each other, making each other better people. But both their pride and stubbornness get in the way of either of them telling the other how they truly feel. I wouldn’t even begin to pick a favorite so far in the series – but this one is up there. I found myself laughing out loud and smiling to the universe at this one.
The sub-characters and intertwining of all of the stories may be my favorite of any series. They truly are mingled each one in the others stories and the continuation of each story is magical. Probably the best continuing series I have read… Truly enjoyable!

Gen is an amazing woman with so much potential, and the only person that really can see it at the moment is her best friend Adam. He encourages her to be the best person she can be. He makes her want to be a better person. And she will not let that be taken away by some stupid expired student visa. Will Gen’s family accept Adam on such a short courtship? Will they find out the truth? And will her fake marriage change the one friendship she is fighting to keep?
Adam Abramowitz is all books and science. He has his life experiment he has been slaving over and he completely forgot about renewing his visa. With the expiration date looming he isn’t sure what he is going to do. His best friend comes up with a solution – but can he be so selfish as to take her up on her offer. Especially knowing that one day their fake marriage will end and she will divorce him to be with someone she truly cares about.
Each book in this series is wonderful and thought provoking. This one truly hit home. I absolutely loved both Gen and Adam’s characters. They truly complete each other – fulfilling each other, making each other better people. But both their pride and stubbornness get in the way of either of them telling the other how they truly feel. I wouldn’t even begin to pick a favorite so far in the series – but this one is up there. I found myself laughing out loud and smiling to the universe at this one.
The sub-characters and intertwining of all of the stories may be my favorite of any series. They truly are mingled each one in the others stories and the continuation of each story is magical. Probably the best continuing series I have read… Truly enjoyable!

3.5 Nerdy-and-Socially-awkward-hunky-H Stars
I ended up enjoying Own Me, the second book I’ve read by this author, a lot more that I thought I would.
I loved Risk Me, the previous installment on this series, so much that I jumped at the chance of reading this next one.
While I was intrigued by the story line, I realized when I got farther into the book that the main issue between our couple was going to be lack of communication. This, as a rule, really pisses me off.
Adam is an Israeli studying in the States and has not been keeping up with the paperwork to keep his student visa. Gen has been his tutorée since they met at campus three years ago and they have been great friends ever since. At the possiblity of having her best friend deported, Gen offers to marry him to get a green card.
Well, it turns out Adam has been half in love with her since day one, and Gen after some head straightening figures she loves him just as much. Unfortunately, Gen thinks Adam is just in it for the papers and well…the benefits, but is not serious about her. While, Adam is convinced she is still hung up on her childhood crush and he is just a temporary stand in.
Adam is a super hot, built scientist with a stint as a soldier, a lot of stamina and some daddy issues. Gen is a girl trying to figure out what she wants from life, if only her family would let her breathe for a second without making her second-guess everything she does. Put these two together and we see what not opening up will do to your relationships.
Well, their lack of using words like normal people drove me a little bit crazy, and it got old soon. Throw in a busybody family, uncooperative yeast experiments and Immigration inquiries, you have quite an angsty read. This story was filled with hot love making, unfortunate choices of words by both parties, and a lot of growing-up.
In the end, I liked it a lot, even considering their lack of linguistic skills to comunicate… although Adam does have some pretty fantastic linguistic skills of the other kind, if you know what I mean.
I’m really looking forward for the next in this series.

Genevieve is still nursing a broken heart after her childhood crush married the love of his life, but she's ready for her family to get off her back about it. When she finds out about Adam's situation, she comes up with the perfect plan. They'll get married--he can stay in the United States and finish his research and her family will finally leave her alone. They don't expect to fall in love in the process.
Adam and Genevieve were so awesome together. He was totally hot and a stand-up guy all the way. He didn't want her to settle for him when she should have everything. He was gorgeous (Israeli with sea glass green eyes *swoon*) And Gen was fun.
I didn't buy that they were best friends before this. I mean, yes, they had a steady friendship, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that they were best friends. And that made me question her motives. I did love the way the whole thing came about and thought this book was so sexy. Fast paced and unpredictable, Own Me by Lexi Scott is fun and romantic.

When life gives you lemons, they say that you make lemonade and in Own Me by Lexi Scott - that's just what two people will do to ensure happiness between the both of them. Own Me starts off with Adam who is a PHD student doing grad work and he has just recieved a letter from the government telling him that he needs to return home to Israel. Despite his hard work , he has been too focused on yeast and bacteria that he forgot to fill out his papers and now his visa has expired and it's too late to apply for a new one. He can't go home as if he returns back to his homeland - he can never get the opportunity to come back to the States and he will be stuck working in a dead -end job that his father hooked up for him. Meanwhile Genevieve is on the other end of the scale, she has brains but has trouble focusing and Adam is her tutor. She is finding it hard being at home as she is seen as useless but Adam knows deep down she is a great person. If Genevieve doesn't pass her courses , then she will fail - so she can't lose Adam. Recently , though her life has been difficult as her childhood friend and crush Deo has just announced his engagement and is getting married. Fast forward to the party and Adam is working as a caterer. One thing leads to another and Genevieve gives Adam the perfect way to stay in the US - he marries her and so begins a whirlwind relationship and marriage that at the beginning is just two friends helping each other but of course over time they start to develop actual feelings for one another. Can the pair make this marriage work and actually let down their walls for one another and prove not only to their families but to immigration - that they love each other and that this wedding isn't a sham for Adam to just get a green card .

This took an eluded situation and gave it the Lexi Scott twist and it was delicious.
A friend to lover’s story of the highest order, one that had me flicking the pages like an absolute dervish.
While it is clear that marrying someone just so they can facilitate the required documentation to enable them to remain in the country is not something to be recommended, I have to say that in this case it was clearly the catalyst to bigger and better things.
It is or can be just the push that a dormant love needs to ignite the flames of passion, especially as with Genevieve and Adam there is no financial gain to be made in the arrangement, the whole event is being partaken solely to as the means of one friend coming to the assistance of another. Or is it?
Two friends who were closer than most, doing what is needed to save their friendship…Perhaps?
Adam’s visa is almost up and potentially he will have to leave the country but Genevieve isn’t ready to lose her best friend and she hatches a plan to keep him where she needs him, with her.
She suggests that they marry and I have to say that as farcical as that may have seemed, it really was the most perfect of solutions.
These two had a connection that had long since pasted the friends zone, they both harboured feelings that were so much more than longing, they were veering towards lust and with time and effort, the groundwork was laid and they embarked on a new, well-earned phase in their lives, and when it came the time to take their final step it was with an impetus that embraced what they were doing and why… their new marital status was well earned.
A lovely story, one full to the brim with romantic touches and gracious and endearing acts. Two people that took a potentially devastating scenario and embraced the solution the found to remedy its impact, finding true love along the way.

"Own Me" is a sweet, romantic, and thoughtful third installment to the Silver Strand series. However, the character's were constantly over thinking themselves, and riddled with so much self doubt, even when they were given esteem bolstering advice and were shown, by romantic gestures how the other felt about them ... they were in disbelief. It was incredibly frustrating. The story premise was a good one, the characters were engaging and charming, but their doubt was infuriating! There was a another plot point which could have provided a solid conflict, once their insecurity in their love for each other was resolved, that would have leant the novel more of a suspenseful and "but we REALLY ARE in love" irony.
I really liked the main characters, Gen and Adam were pleasant and appealing, but their seemingly constant insecure introspection became bothersome. I have a low threshold for couples having a lot of doubt in the other love interest when they are being constantly shown special (and obvious) loving gestures by the other. I think it would have been intriguing if they would have realized their love for each other and then had to deal with some more serious scrutiny from Immigration, maybe some home visits, talking to their families, in addition to their interviews. That would have built the suspense with an "after we've discovered we really are truly in Love we may still get pulled apart". But the character's, albeit chaotically, grew because of each other, and again I really liked them and I did like the story.
I'm giving "Own Me" 3 Lighting Bolts and a Storm Warning.

Adam Abramowitz, is an attractive Israelli native who tutors Gen in physics, while trying to successfully get positive results from his experiment for his thesis.
However, his determination caused him to put the renewal of his student Visa on the back burner.

First I have to say that while reading this book, once we got the description of Adam, I kept envisioning Yotam Shwartz as Adam. Go Google him and you'll see what I mean :)
I thought this was a cute friends-to-lovers by way of marriage of convenience story. I haven't read the first book in the series, and while this does center around the same group of family and friends, it's not that hard to get caught up with the story since each book is about a different couple. Another fact I like with this story is that Gen and Adam are already friends, so it doesn't feel like their relationship is forced on the reader.
It wasn't hard to feel for Gen, she's at that age where she sees her family and friends coupling off and doing things with their lives, while she feels stagnant and maybe even held down by her family. That's what makes Adam so right for her, because he really sees her for who she is and what she can be if she was given the right encouragment. He tries to do that, but when have you ever known a man who is explain things on an emotional level rather than an analytical level? Exactly!
It did get on my nerves how much crap Gen's brothers kept giving Adam; I get the whole protective brother feeling, but it seemed like Enzo and Cohen didn't want to recognize the fact that Gen is an adult and capable of making her own decisions. And please, don't get me started on Lydia; I'm pretty sure that if she does get her own story, I might not read it, that's how much I dislike her character. But I absolutely love Marigold's character though, and was even surprised by the turn in the friendship between Gen and Whit.

She is fixing to fall out of college so she hires a tutor-Adam Abramowitz- who is so sexy and he helps her understand physics and he is super smart. He doesn’t notice how she dresses or what how she looks, even when she dresses super sexy just for him. He is there to tutor her and make sure she passes. But one day he tells her he will have to quit tutoring her because his Visa is about expire and he will have to return to Israel. Gen doesn’t want to lose someone she has become to close to, someone who sees her, not an airhead or a pretty face so she immediately proposes marriage to Adam so he can get his green card. Adam thinks they are just friends but Gen feels more for him, more than he knows.
This is a beautiful story about a path of how friends became lovers and the twists and turns the story took along they took to get there. At times it was emotional and rough but the ending was good. I enjoyed the humor and the laughs I had. Adam was a smart guy but he wasn’t prepared for Genny. She was a sweet girl ; she did really have it hard for Adam-she loved her family and friends-she wanted to do for everyone and didn’t expect anyone to do for her. This is such a great book and I would recommend this story for all who like a friends to lovers story.

I was drawn to the Silver Strand series when I saw the cover of Risk Me, so when it came time to sign up for Own Me, that plus the fact that the synopsis sounded good, had me saying, "Why not?" I'm glad I decided to take a chance on this book because I really enjoyed it. It was just an awesome read and I'll definitely keep an eye on this series!
What can I say about Genevieve except that she's fabulouso? She's strong but vulnerable, sweet but passionate, and smart but a little ditzy at times. She struggles and gets lost and confused, but she has such a huge heart that you can't help but love her. Gen did drive me a little crazy at times, but I truly did love her and I felt very loyal to her.
Now, when we first met Adam with all his science-nerdy self, I was thinking that he might not be the alpha-possessive-protective guy that I prefer my heroes to be, but no sooner did I think that than when he did something that made me think he would be that guy after all. It was a very pleasant surprise because a hero can make or break a story - which he did - make it, that is. I just absolutely loved Adam - he's a sexy, thoughtful, adorkable nerd who's a HOT alpha that will make you want to smack him as much as you want to hug him!
Own Me got under my skin and made me want yell, but also made me laugh out loud often and smile a lot. It was beautiful and heartache-y and touching. It was fantxcellent and I really loved it!
Own Me is a standalone, it's told from Gen and Adam's POV, and it does end in a HEA.

This has been a very perplexing read for me. This is not a mystery novel, no; that's not what perplexed me. I'm unsure whether I like this book or not. I'm hovering over the like-it (four stars) and hate-it (two stars) bar so I compromised with three stars. Also, pardon me but seeing the book cover (again) is distracting me, or simply put, my thoughts are all over the place. Anyway, with that out let's proceed:
The premise was not new but it has that air of freshness in it. I mean, come on, this book definitely holds a place in my diverse-books shelf. (Just to mention, I've read this book without reading the first two books so, I guess, this is part of a stand-alone series) Lexi Scott used different perspective and coupled with how well it was written, that enhanced my reading experience. Although to be frank, the first few chapters were a blur to me, didn't really understood it until I'm finished with the first quarter, maybe that's just me but whatever. I like flow and pacing of the story, not too fast and not so slow, just right.
Overall, this has been a swift read, at least two-fourths of it, for me. I enjoyed the gripping, yet cliched, story.

Although to be frank, the first few chapters were a blur to me, didn't really understood it until I'm finished with the first quarter, maybe that's just me but whatever. I like flow and pacing of the story, not too fast and not so slow, just right.
Overall, this has been a swift read, at least two-fourths of it, for me. I enjoyed the gripping, yet cliched, story.

This book was so cute! Gen and Adam are seriously so cute together. They push each other to the brink but in the end, it makes them stronger and bonded more.
What happens when you're failing your class and the tutor is doing everything he can to help you? You pay him back by solving his problem. Gen is failing one of her classes and failing to see her purpose. Adam has been tutoring her for a while but both have been harboring feeling for each other. He finds out his visa is expiring soon and needs help staying in the country. Gen jumps at the chance to help and even mentions marriage. He is hesitant at first but agrees. Adam being a scientist, makes this like an experiment but Gen wants to really get to know him better, so they come up with a plan. Along the way, they become closer and the more time they spend together they realize they want more. They even help each other overcome each other issues and move on. I thought these two were really great together and made each other stronger despite all the arguing they did. Gen really embraced the situation and wanted to make everything perfect minus Adam not being able to shut off his scientist mind. In the end, both of them find the happiness they so deserve and finally come to term with everything. I really did like this book and found myself laughing hard at times.

Own Me has the perfect plot, the perfect characters, and the right amount of humor! I couldn't put this down until I knew how Genevieve's and Adam's story would end.
Own Me is a standalone novel so you don't need to read the previous books in the series but I would highly recommend you do. All the characters appear throughout them. Also Genevieve has crushed on Deo (Hide Me's hero) since she was a kid and you feel her heart ache knowing he's now married.
Adam is a smart guy. When he speaks science, it usually goes over everyone's head. Except Genevieve. She's really smart but dumbs it down sometimes, acting dizty, wearing high heels she can't even walk in. She dresses kind of sultry, yet Adam never notices. They become friends when Adam tutors her.
When Adam mentions his visa is about to expire, Genevive comes up with the idea of marrying him to get him to stay. What started out as a friend helping a friend, soon turns into 'something more'. The chemistry between the two can't be ignored.
Own Me is a perfect summertime friends-to-lovers read!

Own Me is my first book by this author, and I have to say that I enjoyed it a lot. Genevieve Rodriguez is one D from getting kicked out of school for good, and her long time crush just married someone else. Adam is graduate student whose visa is about to expire. He's also her super hot, geeky best friend/physics tutor. When he tells her that he will have to return to Israel, the words "marry me" pop out of her mouth before she thinks about it. It starts out as a joke, but one unexpected moment changes the game. What will happen when Adam and Gen push the limits?
I truly enjoyed this story a lot. Adam is an extremely smart and sexy geek, that bores people with his science talk. Gen is always dressed up and fashionable, but doesn't realize that Adam would ever look twice at her, so she's been trying to set him with her friends for years. Both characters are well developed, and easy to relate to. The story is an original and sexy romance. It focuses on their journey rather than that insta love connection. The slow build up was very refreshing, but I could still feel the sexual tension surrounding Adam and Gen, through the kindle. Own Me is part of the Silver Strand series but can be read as a stand alone. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series.

This book is Genevieve's book, and can be read as a stand alone in the series. I was happy to see Genevieve get her own book and I have to say that she shocked me with what she does in this story!! Genevieve had been tutored by Adam for years and no sparks have flown between the two of them yet. When Genevieve hears that Adam is worried about his green card expiring before he can get his experiment done, she has a crazy idea that runs through her mind. She can help Adam out by getting married!! Genevieve is on the outs with her family sort of and so when Adam and Genevieve announce their engagement, their family does not really receive it well.
Genevieve and Adam go through the motions of planning a wedding and carrying it out, but she has no idea that she will start to develop feelings like she does for Adam and vice versa. The way that Adam takes Genevieve and realizes how her family treats her is so heart warming. This was such a sweet story that turned out to be real love. This has been a good series and I can't wait to see what is next from Lexi!!
