Once upon a time in modern day a broken and lonely damsel, Haley finds herself rescued from a distressed situation that might have thrown her in a dungeon. Her Knight in shining armor, resort developer and real estate mogul Jude Macknight whisks her off to his kingdom.

My 2nd book by this author and this is it for me.
DNF @ 21% but skipped pages to find out what h's big secret was.
Lacked S chem/emo/romance. Telling with no showing.
Quickly went from no chemistry or any relationship really (they didn't even talk or share some kind of non-verbal understanding since H was mostly out of the house working) to suddenly having sex, after their 1st dining experience out. The next chapter summarized their being together for 1 year now and H proposes. Skips 1 or 2 years later in the next chapter (chapter 8), with both lovey-dovey with each other and H pampering her with his rich lifestyle and insisting she not work.
**SPOILERS**
There's no emotional or romantic development. We're just told the status of their relationship. @25% by chapter 10, about 5 years have gone by and H suddenly slaps her, after she lets the waiter help wipe off some spill on her dress when she & H were dining out. H all of sudden becomes this jealous-possessive psycopath. Skipping more--h runs back home later and H abducts her and rapes her with his now full-blown psycopathy. So glad I skipped & didn’t read through this. Not going to read the rest of this series.
No emotional connection but mostly focused on H financial pampering of h without any explanation of why. Lots of repeated teasers all through the book of h trying to forget her traumatic meeting with H. Which is basically H saving her after she may have killed a man, who may be her client. Since this book cliffhangered @ the big reveal that h worked as a prostitute. That wasn't surprising.

There's no chemistry between the Haley and Jude. I read a lot of romance-ish/Dark novels, and i can assure you this isn't one of them. I really wanted to like this book, the blurb looked promising but after 23% bookmark i got bored outta my mind, so i decided to DNF it. Life is too short.

Evil wears a sexy face, smiles with sinister intentions, charismatic and charming. Jude is a sight to behold, there's nothing and I mean nothing he wouldn't do for those he loves.
One costly mistake changed Haley's life forever. She has two choices get out while she's able or die trying.
Five star dark read, looking forward to reading the sequel....Enjoy!

I don't know what I was expecting when I got this book, but I must admit that I didn't expect it to be so good and twisted!!!
Whoa.
Okay, let me start with saying that I am a lover of the darker side of romance but this shocked me! I was so not expecting all these twists and turns.
Our story starts with Haley, our heroine, stuck in a very difficult situation. One man offers to help her. Jude Macknight is a mysterious but extremely wealthy man. He makes a promise; he will save Haley from prison no matter the cost.
“There’s one thing you have to understand. If I’m going to help you out of this mess, I will be making myself an accessory to a crime. If you agree to let me help you, you can’t go back to where you came from, Haley. Do you understand that?” His eyes bore into mine, his dark gaze encircling me. “You have two choices. Walk away or stay.”
These two people are complete strangers, they do not know a single thing about each other...Or do they? Jude is a powerful man and does what he promises. He helps Haley. He hides her and protects her. Haley is drawn to the man who sheltered her. He is handsome and kind. He gives her everything. He seems honest. She falls hard for him and he loves her. Maybe a little too much. He shows it to her everyday. Presents, money, he gives her all he has.
But freedom always comes with a price. And the price Haley has to pay is uncountable.
Did he really expect me to love him after he had destroyed our marriage and shattered any remnants of love I might have felt for him? What was there to celebrate?
Jude is not who we think he is. His mind is dark, twisted. His love suffocates her, bruises her until it becomes a nightmare.
Used and abused she is desperate for a way out. But her hell is too deep and Jude is holding all the keys. Will Haley be strong enough to survive his twisted affection?
Will her past come back to haunt her or save her?
I loved this book. I consumed it in one sitting. The writing was fascinating, eloquent and the plot fast-paced. Jude is one of the most sinister characters I have read and I admire Haley because her will is not easily shaken.
My only complaint is that the book ends on a huge cliffhanger!
Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the introduction to the story. We get a real insight to a very sick mind! Bravo to the author for this amazing novella. I want the next book now!!! Pretty please?

3.5 Disturbing and Intense Stars
Pay attention to the WARNINGS if you decide to read this book.
Although this book is considered dark and twisted it deals mainly with domestic abuse, psychological and physical.
There were some aspects of the book I enjoyed and some I didn't care for.
The author did a fairly good job of keeping me interested and engaged in the story. I liked that there was a good plot and the writing flowed nicely. I felt Jude and Haley were realistically portrayed and their actions were believable although I'm no expert. Jude was definitely a monster and Haley was definitely the victim. Neither of them deviated from their roles.
I disliked the cliff hanger and felt the book could have been much longer. This is the first in a serial and unfolds over 3 volumes. I don't really want to rant about authors' making money on serials but the cost was high for this one. You can buy a full length novel for the same price. For that reason alone I lowered my rating and I doubt I will buy the next two volumes.
If this subject is one you are interested in, the book is definitely worth reading!!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book was very hard to read due to its content. I read the warning "sexual situations and dark content meant for readers 18+" but I wish there was a warning on all the rape that goes on. Rape is a trigger for many people so I believe the author should've been more clear on stating that before someone else has to read through all that. Furthermore the rape scenes were way too often and way too much. One in particular 51% into the book was extremely disturbing and disgusting. This is mainly the reason why I cannot rate this book 5 stars. Had there been a warning about that I probably would've never picked up the book. Furthermore the heroine is a weak link. I couldn't stand her, couldn't relate to her and at times I found myself wishing Jude would kill her or she would commit suicide. She was abused on and on and on but it took her forever to decide to leave him. I know this is the reality that many abused women go through but I personally cannot relate. I think it's degrading and I believe the heroine has absolutely no sense of self worth. Another thing that irked me a lot was that this book is rated mystery/suspense but I had absolutely no sense of either/or because I could literally guess the direction in which the author took things. Half the time I was just annoyed and I didn't put it down only because it was an arc and I needed to review it. What I DID like was that the writing flowed greatly. The author knows how to write and there were almost no errors in the writing (the beginning was confusing because she started writing third person then swapped into first person) but after that bump, it was great. I would absolutely love to read something else by this author bc I believe Dori has a lot of potential, I just can't recommend this book because I personally didn't enjoy it and it wasn't for me.. I only recommend it if you're okay with reading a bunch of rape scenes and you don't mind an abused heroine who allows the abuse to continue for more than half of the book. Dori: Thank you for the ARC, I am sorry that I couldn't connect with your book and I look forward to reading something a little bit on the lighter side by you.

Wow! I was instantly pulled in and loving Jude and all his sexy sweetness.
But damn his major alphness, jealousy galore, didn't take long to shine! Hell if I didn't love every bit of it. It's one of my "things."
"You deserve to be happy," "I can't wait for you to be mine."
"I'm already yours."
"I want you to mine on paper as well. I'll never let you go."
"I hope not." I'll never leave you."
I knew things were going to get ugly because of the syp and warnings for the story, yet the sick individual I am frickin' loved his jealousy! His reactions.
"Why did you do that?" he said, his voice just below a whisper.
"What?" "I spilled the water, Jude. I--"
He shot me a glance that froze me in place. "I'm not talking about that. Why," he stretched out the word, "did you touch him?"
I frowned. "touch him? I didn't...oh, you mean when I touched his hand?" I placed a hand on his shoulder. "What's going on, Jude?"
He shrugged off my hand. "Not only that." His voice was ice. "I saw the way you looked at him."
Then we have Dustin, a long lost love of Haley, bumping into her after not seeing each other for years. Naturally Haley tries to move him along quickly in hopes Jude does not find out. He finds her behavior strange. I liked the dude instantly.
Then I'm disturb by the sudden change that takes over Jude. Never would have thought he'd be hiding a monster inside. I swear, he does something that just... oh wow!
The direction the story starts to take going into book #2 is exciting! As sick as Jude is, I still love him but I feel I'm going to love Dustin as well so I can't wait to see where they take me.

The beginning was ok. Girl needs saving, a man saves her, but turns out to be a complete and utter abusive, controlling jerk. The sex was quite mild, as in something like, he took off her pants, they moved together so well, he came. AND SCENE!! Most of the sex in book after the first time was forced, but again, not much detail there. The story was more so about how he was slowly killing her inside, and damn close to physically killing her as well. Things picked up a bit after she tries to escape him and you realize just how crazy he truly is. The ending gave the story a boost to reach 3 stars.

The Review:
Absolutely mindblowing. Veiled Obsession is a staggering tale of one womans fall from bad to worse and the things she endured in her attempt to survive. It’s dark and scary and will definitely have you thinking well after you put it down.
Story/Characters...
Haley finds herself in a situation where she heedlessly takes the hand of a stranger after needing rescuing from a situation that remains unclear throughout most of the book. The author gives us enough to know that she’s done something bad and Jude is there to lend his money, influence and in the end, his hand in marriage.
But their story doesn’t end with a happily ever after. Haley slowly starts to realize the man she thought she loved, the man who rescued her, the man she married and committed her life to, isn’t to be trusted and when Jude realizes she’s pulling away, he lets his hidden monster out.
These two were circling the crazy-train from the moment this story opens up and you can just tell Jude is not the savior he makes himself out to be. The more the story unfolds, the more you can see Jude’s controlling nature is more than just possessiveness. He’s mad... as in hatter. And the things we learn about him take this book from a story of abuse to a story of obsession, viciousness and betrayal.
The things Jude does are inconceivable and the author does a wonderful job pulling you in and making you feel the fear, pain and hurt Haley experiences at the hands of Jude. My heart broke, my stomach was in knots and I was frantically flipping the pages to see what would happen next.
And of course, I loved every minute of it.
As much as I enjoyed this read, there were a couple of things that held me back from giving it a full five stars. I’m not a big fan of convenient circumstances, where things just fall into place. There were at least two incidents that I thought could have gone differently in order to make the situation more believable. But other than that, the book was amazing and rich in both story and character development.
Jude turns from this man of mystery to a savagely cold monster. About fifty percent into the book, I was ready to see him get back some of the evil he was dishing out. I love dark reads and I love dark and dangerous heroes or antiheroes who have issues but make no mistake. Jude the the antagonist and no amount of money, posh suits or classy cars can cover that. He’s vile and evil and I hope when it’s all said and done, he’s as broken and tortured as the woman he turned Haley into.
As for Haley, well, she did some very stupid things. She’s brave and courageous and I loved how strong she was but I kept thinking, “girl, you’re smarter than that.” Jude was too smooth and too controlling from the moment she met him. And I totally get that she was hoping for a hero after the events that lead up to the very one that threw Jude into her path and Jude made sure he had a noose around her neck from the moment he spotted her. But when you make a deal with the devil, you pay and Jude is definitely the devil in her story.
The Wrap Up:
I could go on and on about this read. It was just that good and I can’t wait to find out how it continues in the next installment. A past love has entered the game and I’m interested to find out if it’ll be renewed love or a bitter end. And I’m definitely interested to find out how things will play out with Jude and Haley. So excited!

That was a strange book but for the most part a good way. There will be spoilers ahead because there is no way I can explain what I liked or didn't without some details.
I am not a fan favorite of heroines who were prostitutes. And the excuses for this profession?! She loses her older sibling and whole fm family fall apart. Dad kills himself and mom and daughter sell their bodies to deal with the loss. Talk about some serious basket cases. They didn't do anything lightly it was to the full over the top extreme. But still couldn't put it down. Now our escort kills a guy and some hot rich guy shows up. He saves her, covers it up and takes her to his mansion. They fall in love and he names hotels after her. Here's the deal he is one jealous sob and he hits her once and loses it and she suddenly falls out of love. Not buying it. Why? Because this woman who became a whore because she has zero coping skills and can sleep with disgusting nameless men who I imagine occasionally roughed her up and actually killed one. But hot/rich jealous hubby hits her once and she is so done. I buy that. NOT! I am not condoning abuse of women. Completely against it. But honestly the trade off...whoring or jealous hubby? Sleep with one or sleep with many? Before hubby really loses it she is disgusted with him and doesn't want him touching her? How the hell was she a prostitute? Suddenly I'm to good for this I deserve better? Oh yeah selling yourself is always the more respectful choice! Before I get bashed about her hubbies (full Shane psychosis) he was fairly normal for many months while she sat and done the woe is me BS! But up til that break she was a pain in the ass. She was a murdering prostitute and she thought it was normal for rich hot men to save her, marry her and give her the world?
But even as far fetched as this book was I still hung on with both hands and i couldn't put it down. Why is it some of the craziest, unrealistic, emotionally chaotic books are the most entertaining! Would I recommend...hell yeah! But be prepared to eye roll many, many times. But you won't be bored. I will be waiting for the second book

This is a very intriguing story and I can already see it's different from the kind of dark books I enjoy, but I really liked it!!

OMG!!! There are no words that can describe how excellent Veiled Obsession - His Agenda Book 1 is. I patiently waited for this book from Dori Lavelle, as I'm a big fan of hers. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed; in fact, this was one of her best books that she has written as of this date.
This book is a romantic suspense thriller and a thriller it is (dark, twisted and yes a cliffhanger). In the opening we meet the main characters - Haley, beautiful and scared and Jude, dark, mysterious and downright evil.
After saving Haley from a difficult situation, she falls for Jude; however things are not what they seem as Jude changes overnight or was he always evil.
Dori takes the reader on a dark and twisted journey leaving you breathless and wondering what the Hell....
Dori writes with such emotion that the reader is inside the characters head and emotions.
Then, you are introduced to another character - Dustin, multibillionaire in his own right and on a mission to see if Haley is okay. I have a hunch; he will play an important part in Haley's life in the coming books.
I can't wait to read Dori's next book in this series and I would 1-click this one as it is a must read. I would give it a 10 if I could because the writing and the book is awesome.

This book was well written. However, I felt that it was very rushed. I feel like the author could have added a bit more perhaps, or even drawn out some scenes so we would get a better sense of the characters. With that being said though I did enjoy the book. When I got this book I wasn't expecting my mind to be completely blow away, but I must admit that I didn't expect it to be so twisted!!!

But when I read this book I literally called out like someone would in the movies when something bad is about to happen. Yeah I never do that let just say that was the first for me haha,

This book deserves 5+ stars simply because it proves an awesome book can be written with nonexistent detailed sex scenes! Kudos Dori for managing to successfully nail that feat!
This story is what movies are made of seriously! The storyline is so awesome, the emotions of Haley are so real one can simply touch their device and FEEL her pain, and Jude is...well Jude is cray cray but on some level I was rooting for him in the beginning believe it or not. Ok so allow me to defend that statement....I'm a sucker for a rich alpha man who goes after his woman and obtains that woman by ALMOST any means necessary. I was cool with his tactics until he lost his marbles! And boy did he lose'em! I was so done with Jude the crazy dude by the end of this first book I could hardly stand it!
Surely there is some redemption in book 2 (preordered of course) for the underdogs, Haley and Dustin. Who is Dustin? Buy and read the book! I promise you won't regret it!

Loved dark thriller
Wow, this book pulled me in and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
I like the saying I've lived a thousand lives because of the way reading can make you feel that way. A book has never made me have fear for my life the way this book did. I became Haley. I rode the emotional rollercoaster that was her marriage. I felt the pain that Jude inflicted upon her. It felt real. It was scary to see what would happen to her. I can't believe how it ended. Just wow that was intense.

Well damn! This is a definite read to keep you hooked from the go! And Dark is for sure on the menu! This book is not one of those typical "happily ever after" start to a series. Oh no, this book is dark and so very twisted. If you can't hang on the dark side than this baby is not for you. BUT... If you got what it takes to handle a dark read, dive right on in and enjoy the crazy ass ride you are about to embark on!

A plot with Hayley in need of saving from a bad situation. Saved by Jude only to get herself in a worse situation.
Jude the powerful millionaire business man getting what he wants when he wants it and no one gets in his way.
The twist at the end, very predictable and going to read the rest of the books just to put my mind at rest.

Minor detail that didn't work for me was too many coincidences in the story, too convenient for the story flow. Other than that it's a solid, twist story. On to the sequel!

I think I am still in shock I know Dori said we would be seeing her dark side but no way did I think when I picked up this book it would be this intense. I do have to warn whoever decides to read this there is a lot of graphic rape, and extreme abuse, etc if this a problem for you than this is not the book for you. I know I was not prepared when I pick this book up to read. Dori is a very talent author each of her series brings out a different side of her. Her writing style as changed and grown from her first book. I have loved each of her books and follow her closely. This new series is such a shock to me I set reading with my mouth hung open thinking OMG. I was so into it that before I knew it I had finish the book and it was 2 am. This serial unfolds over three volumes there is somewhat of a cliffhanger. It does end on a happy thought but I do have to wonder where the author will take this over the next 2 books.
Dori gives you many twists and turns with all the dark side out there I do find this believable however I am so glad I am not Haley. When your abuser closes you off from the rest of the world you become depended on them as Haley did. It is easy for them to control you in all things there is no easy way to leave when you have no money, friends and nowhere to go. I could relate to Haley there are so many women just like her out there. I am really hoping that their life isn’t this intense and they do not live through what she did.
Jude I adored him when he came on the scene it didn’t take long for me to hate him. I could relate to him since I have seen men just like him. They are all sweet until you say I do than over night they chance into an abusive male. For Jude it was when she innocently touch the hand of another male from there he just got out of hand. Be prepared for some major shocks as the story unfolds. I have to wonder if a man can get more evil than he already is. Knowing Dori I would have to say yes….

As you read this when you think things can’t get worse they will, you will set with your mouth hung open more than once. Everywhere Haley turns she finds the cards are stacked against her. Her one bright lining turns out to be her worse nightmare. When Dustin comes on the scene we have to wonder if he will be the true bright light or will it end with another nightmare.
The author does have you hooked in a very short time. I did find the start of the book to be outstanding with some confusion right after that as to what Haley did that she needed to hide out. By the end of the first book you find out the answer but I have to wonder if she really did it or was this just away for Jude to control her. The author doesn’t go into details at this time but I feel sure as the next books comes out she will get more into the how and why. I do feel this is an outstanding read from a very dark side. I do have to say I am still in shock that Dori has these scenes running around in her head. Not to say that is a bad thing I am just still in so much shock. Veiled Obsession by Dori Lavelle is one fascinating tale of how one woman who has it all suddenly loses everything. Haley has a wonderful and rich lifestyle that many would love to have and most of all, she shares it with a successful and sexy as hell man. Jude MacKnight comes to Haley's rescue and thrusts her up in life but one false move and Jude MacKnight real colors come out. Showing Haley that he is definitely not the man she thought he was and all her love for him instantly disappears. Haley goes about trying to find a way to leave abusive and brutal man that she once loved.
Dori Lavelle's novel will leave readers in awe. Her stunningly well written piece is indeed n addictive romance that all will enjoy. Plus, it comes with the high intensifying danger, sex, and horrors of one man completely coming undone and keeping one woman hostage. Haley is the main character that readers will fall in love with and become inspired at how no matter what she continues to escape the life that once was good turned into a complete hellhole. Veiled Obsession is one that readers must read. A masterpiece beautifully crafted with a thrilling and realistic story to tell. I enjoyed reading this novel and look forward to reading more by this talented writer. Overall, I highly recommend this to readers everywhere and rate it a five out of five stars.

Plus, it comes with the high intensifying danger, sex, and horrors of one man completely coming undone and keeping one woman hostage. Haley is the main character that readers will fall in love with and become inspired at how no matter what she continues to escape the life that once was good turned into a complete hellhole. Veiled Obsession is one that readers must read. A masterpiece beautifully crafted with a thrilling and realistic story to tell. I enjoyed reading this novel and look forward to reading more by this talented writer. Overall, I highly recommend this to readers everywhere and rate it a five out of five stars.

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of Veiled Obsession. Talk about INTENSE!! This is a very dark, suspenseful, brutal read. So well written, I couldn't put it down. It does end on a cliffhanger, but it's still worth reading.

Veiled Obsession by Dori Lavelle is the first book in her new trilogy, His Agenda. It is a dark novel with some disturbing subject matter. While told in as tasteful a way as anything like this can be, be warned if dark content and sexual situations are triggers.
With that being said, this story sets the backdrop for Haley and Jude's story. A dark, twisted backdrop that left me feeling very tired and very sad. It was a well-crafted tale with twists and turns you will never expect. I'm sure the remaining two stories will be just as fraught with danger, peril, and abusive situations I also hope they will contain a bit more happy times.
Prepare yourself for this intense thriller, perhaps with a chilled glass of wine at hand.

3.5 Stars!
It's started OK... Though somehow it reminds me of Claire and Tony, -just a bit-. And given the prologue I thought there will be more gory details, thankfully there wasn't. But eventually it gets really abusive.
Jude McKnight was Haley knight in shining armor. He saved her, gave her place to stay, luxury things and so on. Then she fell for him, or she thought she fall in love with him. Little did she know who he really is behind the impeccable appearance...
Veiled Obsession ...his obsession to people he loves bring out the evil inside him once they betrayed his love.
