“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
- Leo Buscaglia

“I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.”
- Lao Tzu

If I forget this book years down the line, this is what I hope I will remember at the very least, because this is what stood out to me the most:

You will never understand the impact a nurse has on the hundreds of lives they cross, unless you are cared for by someone who really sees you, or you hear someone else’s story. This book made me see the compassion, the patience, the strength, and humanity that make nurses so admired. To remember to take the time to be human, to truly see, listen, and care, can be the source of light in someone’s weakest and darkest moments, and this is something I hope to carry forward with me.

I had the honor of meeting LeAnn Thieman today--she is even more inspirational and uplifting in person...so genuine, funny, and real. She walks the walks and when she talks, everyone in the room listened. I left feeling humbled, healed, grateful and inspired to continue our life's passion and commitment to the nursing profession.

Just like all the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, this one is filled with heartwarming stories, but these are stories written by nurses or by patients or families who’s lives were touched by a nurse. I’m a nurse and really loved reading these stories, all made me smile and some made my cry. All the stories were heart touching affirmations why I do what I do.

Disconnect

I lived these books years ago when they were really popular. I don't know if *I* changed or if it was just this book but I didn't enjoy it as much. If course there were some stories that made me cry but mostly I didn't feel as connected to the stories.
