Bubba the Monster Hunter is a truly unique character. He's the redneck, hard drinkin', designated hunter for the Southeast United States, getting cases from his handler, Uncle Father Joe, a Catholic priest who rides a Harley and is perfectly at home giving a sermon or riding his Harley to do battle with evil. With backup from Skeeter, a gay, thin, black man who never runs out of sarcastic things to say, and Agent Amy, is girlfriend who is a government agent from an agency most people have never heard of, and are happier that way.

Bubba faces all manner of foes, from the comedic to the deadly, and has a strange approach that sets him apart from a lot of others. While a lot of people who fight evil are ready to wade in, guns blazing, Bubba will actually look at the larger problem, and sometimes come up with a solution that doesn't involve death at all, although it might cover drinking, gas money, or a bizarre agreement.

The stories are all good, but one is a cut above the others in this collection. Stone Cold Crazy looks like a standard monster on the loose when it starts, but it grows to have some very serious topics and forces Bubba to take a long hard look at who he used to be. That one story alone elevates the whole group, but every one of them is a great read.

Urban fantasy that trends a lot more rural with a great sense of humor throughout.

An absolutely fabulous series that stars the titular redneck strip club afficianado Bubba the Monster Hunter. This is a great series of episodic enejoyable monster hunting adventures that have all the snark and fun you could want. Buddha is a great character and this story follows him on one of his best quests to deal with his insane werewolf brother. It's not full of deep character development or ideas but it doesn't have to be.

It's just fun.

I'm a Bubba convert. Like biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits or chicken and dumplings, once you develop a taste for the Bubba stories, it's hard to get enough. There's a balance of horror, humor and downright awesomeness that come together to make Bubba who he is, a quintessential Southern redneck good-ol'-boy out fighting the good fight. Each of the stories in this, like the original, is a novella released individually and it seemed like there was less of the overlapping between stories (or I noticed it less). Either way, the stories were great, the voice talent lived up to the tales, and this still remains one of those books that makes me want to kick back with a little Skynard and a beer - though I hope Bubba won't mind that it's a Sam Adams. ;)

The second collection of Bubba the Monster Hunter short stories picks up right where the first book left off and it's a good collection of 10-ish stories, most of which follow hot on the heels of one another. There are some really good stories in here - the one with the rock golems being the highlight for me - and no real bad ones. It does feel more linear and predictable than the first book, but it also feels like the overall arc that has spanned books 1 & 2 has reached it's conclusion, so hopefully book 3 will be a little more varied.

As with book one, the characters are really likeable. Special Agent Amy seems more fleshed out this time around, which was nice. Bubba seems to have mellowed a bit too due to her influence. While it wasn't as unexpectedly good as book 1 was, "Grits, Guns and Glory" certainly provided more of the same entertainment.

I first met Bubba in Season 1, and I'm pleased to say he exceeded my high expectations for shenanigans and shooting in season 2. The stories are suitable for reading one at a time or consuming at the all-you-can-read buffet, as the continuity and chronology proceed in a more or less orderly linear fashion through the book.

The comedy makes me laugh out loud, and I'm sure I will never need a thesaurus for genital slang again. At the same time, the tough stuff isn't avoided, ignored, or laughed off for the sake of funny. Bubba gets a chance to deal with some of his less tasteful past.

My mother did not appreciate Bubba's fight with Clag'tin nearly as much as I did.

WOW, what else can I say but WOW. Harness does it again with this book. He hits emotional highs and lows. I don't know anyone who can make you fall in love with a 350 6ft plus redneck monster hunter. This book is filled with backstory, emotion, and damn funny plot points. If you're thinking of reading this you've probably already read Bubba The Monster Hunter or one of Hartness's other great works so stop reading my damned review and read the book already.

Another rollicking good time with Bubba the Monster Hunter. Imagine Fox Mulder as a good ole boy former college football player and you kind of get the vibe. I’ve read the first two books in this series and they’ve been a hoot. Not exactly War and Peace but definitely a guilty pleasure, in the best sense of that phrase. A fun read.

Good combination of humor and mayhem

Sort of a Larry the Cable Guy merged with Kolchak the Night Stalker. Lots of guy humor, guns blazing, and sword swinging. This isn't a great literary work, but it is a fun read. I marked it down a star due to an excessive number of typos.

Book two of the Bubba the Monster Hunter series was just as enjoyable as the first book. I just can't get enough of reading about Bubba, Amy, Uncle Father Joe and Skeeter. Loving the characters and the adventures that they always get into. Can't wait to finish book 3!

More Bubba punching and shooting evil creatures. Expect sassy, vulgar, hick-from-the-sticks dialogue instead of high literature and you will be entertained instead of disappointed. Not for everyone due to language but a lot of fun and an easy listen.

The second season of Bubba and it starts straight after the events of season one, with Bubba recovering from defeating his dad, but injured after finding his brother as top dog. Good set of books, with the right mix of fun and violence, done in Bubba's own way, head on.

Season 2

Season 2 was just as good as season 1. There were funny moments and other moments that were emotional from Bubba realizing how some easy it is to forget about the times when you were somebody’s monster.

Good read even for a Gamecock fan.

Liked Season 1 enough to keep reading the series. Bubba and his crew are getting more enjoyable in Season 2. Definitely will keep reading. Now if he’d stop hating on South Carolina…..

Bubba

This book started slowly but got better and better. The ending was pretty great, and though Bubba annoys me a lot of time, you can't help but love him! Sweeter is my favorite!

I like John character development and the story lines. Having grown up in the south his vernacular and witticisms strike home.

Kindle Unlimited Going through the entire Bubba the Monster Hunter collections and not sure if the boy is on drugs or should be...but he makes real interesting reading...and a little wonder if his mama dropped him on his head, hard, repeatedly, on purpose, bless his heart. But John G be sure to tell Bubba if he's ever back down this way to holler;I bet that boy is more fun than wrasslin' a pig...a supernatural no bitey one of course. P.S. Come on down, and we'll shoot or set something on fire, darlin'.

My original Grits, Guns & Glory audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

This is the second series of Bubba the Monster Hunter. It is composed by several short stories and also the conclusion to Family Tradition. The last short story is about how the sword arrived in to the family.

I enjoyed this audiobook, although the stories did not have the freshness of the first series. I found there were less redneck expressions and touches, which was the funny part of the first book. There is a story from the point of view of Skeeter and the last one (about the origins of the sword) is narrated in third person, which breaks the continuity of the book. I expected more development on the relationship between Bubba and Agent Amy, but even though she appears several times in the book, there is not much about them. At the end of book one we get a glimpse into Bubba's heart, and he felt plainer this time.

We will also know what happened to Bubba's mother, but I confess that I found that part of the story a bit disappointing. The end of the continuation of Family Tradition was a bit abrupt in my opinion.

For the rest, it is a very entertaining book, but we have to understand that the first series set great expectations.

Something that bothered me a lot, especially at the beginning, was the change of narrator. John Solo did a great job, but I have to say that Andrew McFerrin's interpretation was superior and his voices were more differentiated. I feel McFerrin was the perfect narrator for this book, so I do not understand this decision. I think book series should be narrated by the same person, if possible, unless there is a special reason to hire a different narrator (e.g. to give a different atmosphere or narrate the story from a different point of view).

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the first series and wants to know how Family Tradition ends. Bubba and his team are a set of very interesting characters and I think these books can be enjoyed by many people, even if they are not into horror.
