This traditional is presented with movable parts in this board book version. The movable portions of the book are the perfect size for young fingers to manipulate, whether moving in an up and down motion with a small finger hole, pulling a tab out to reveal a pig in the barn, or turning a wheel to showing a variety of animals chasing the sheep around the farm. The following animals are included in the four verses of this song: the cow, the pig, the sheep, and the horse.

Nosy Crow constructs great board books. The only concern I have about this one is the cover and the coated paper covering the cardboard. The thin coated paper might be torn from the cover near the pull tab, especially if the tab is not carefully pushed back into the cover.

A QR Code on the inside front cover of the book provides access to a free audio version
of the song from the Nosy Crow podcast.

1) No awards
2) Pre-k to Kindergarten
3) Join the farmer was we go through his farm and see all the animals on it. Driving his tractor around we see the cow feeding on grass, the dog and pigs chasing each other and more. He does all his farm work as he sings "Old MacDonald" the entire way.
4) This books offers a nice introduction into the world of song and repetition. Its thick pages and moving parts make the book not only sturdy but interactive. Similar to "The Wheels on the Bus" it too has a downloadable song which makes transitioning from one book to another tedious.
5) One use for this book is to introduce different animals that one might see on a farm, for example cows and pigs. It would be a great addition if the theme was about animals. Another use may be to show what a farmer might do at his job. It can be used along with the theme of people and their occupations.

This board book version of Old MacDonald Had a Farm will surely delight toddlers with its familiar refrain and move-able parts. It also includes a QR code to that will take you to a free download of the song. The sturdy pages and finger guides for some of the move-able parts ensure that the book will stand up to repetitive use by eager little hands.
I would recommend this book for purchase by public libraries for their board book collections.
