Moving book. Ember is married but her life is anything but happy. Her husband is abusive. Her every day life seems like a nightmare to her and there is no hope for her...Until a barbeque changes everything.
Dalton is handsome and kind. Everything Ember's husband is not. The attraction is strong but there are lines that cannot be crossed.Still, Ember cannot stay away from Dalton. The question is: Can she ever escape her cruel husband and be happy?

Review by Jen Hagen

It broke my heart to know what Ember was facing inside the walls of her home, a place where one should feel safe and not be scared. Her husband was verbally and physically abusive to her, although he wasn’t always like this. It hasn’t been since the last couple years where he has turned into his father – somebody that he vowed he would never be. Ember and Austin have an adorable little girl, Harlee whom Austin uses as collateral to make certain that Ember never leave

*** I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review ***

I don't think I can put into words how I feel after reading this book. It's so emotional and I felt like it was me living this book. I recommend this book to everyone. I think all people should read something like this. It opens your eyes to things you don't really understand. Abuse comes in all forms and no one should have to endure it. I hope it can inspire someone to get the help they need if they are going through abuse.

A beautiful HEA story about hope, positivity, second chances and love will conquer all. I absolutely LOVED this story. It made me laugh, cry, and get extremely angry, just what you want a great book to do. Harlee stole my heart, and Dalton is the knight in shining armor little girls grow up dreaming about. Ember is an inspiration with her generous, kind and loving soul. An amazing debut by Nicky Crawford and I look forward to reading more books from her in the future. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Whoa. I didn't see this story going the way it did.
Some parts could be considered a trigger for anyone that goes through what Ember went through.
This was a story about a woman going through a rough marriage and coming out on top.
I'd you can handle running through every emotion you have, I suggest you read this book.

Overall Opinion: I'm not quite sure how I made it through this one to be honest. I found it boring through a lot of it, there was major instalove going on (especially with Dalton), and I generally didn't understand the instant connection between the h and the H and even after they spent so much time together I just didn't feel it. Also...everyone was a crybaby! I don't mind a man that cries at monumental occasions -- but he cried too much in my opinion. Ember cried all the time too. I kn

Ember has lived with physical and mental abuse from her husband for years. She is so used to putting on her happy face and acting like everything is perfect in her world. With her husband in the military, her being a nurse and raising her three year old daughter, Ember hopes for the day Austin goes back to being the loving man he once was. Until the day Dalton walks into her life. Dalton knew when he met Ember. She was the women for him. Seeing the black eye and bruises, he wanted to protect her ...more

Grab the tissues! Boy oh boy did the author put us through the ringer in this book. For a debut novel, this author knocked it out of the park and I am super excited to get more from her. This author gave us a beautifully damaged love story that was emotionally charged and full of passion. While this book was hard to read at times, it was real and definitely spoke to me, having it on my mind long after it was over. This author can only go up from here!

I liked this book. Full of intense

Man, how do I even write this review? Chapter 1 will pull you in, squeeze your heart tighter with every word, and leave you in tears, sobbing in a corner. Everything I felt in that chapter, made me not want to stop reading.

Ember is in a very physical and emotional abusive marriage to Austin and together they have the most precious daughter Harlee, when Dalton comes walking into their lives. Dalton is every girls fantasy, he has it all wrapped into one delicious package. I love how tastefully their love played out.

This book sent shivers down my spine, not many authors can make you connect with the characters the way Nicky has done in Ember Skies.

I was given an ARC for honest review:
Nicky's debut novel will have you on edge from minute one. As Ember lives the life of a military spouse, she finds herself abused and desolate. The fine line that most abused spouses find themselves in, is walked by Ember through Nicky's eyes. Austin, Ember's husband, has many issues that she must wade through including her own. As Dalton comes into their lives, Ember knows hers will never be the same. Dalton knows that doing what's right and doing what feel

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, abuse, pain, grief, coma, and heartbreak.

This is Ember and Dalton’s story. Ember is trapped in an abusive marriage. Everyone thinks her husband is a good man but when he drinks he is a monster. When she meets Dalton he seems to know right away what is happening. He wants to help but will interfering make it worst? When the fear and abuse is too hard to hade Ember flees to Dalton. Ember Skies is not only a story for entertainment but also a story with a strong message: never to change yourself for anyone and never lose hope on life. Ember is a strong lady and I love that fact. She didn't break down or ended her life. She fought back with the help of sweet Dalton. I wish there was someone like Dalton in everyone's life who could understand everything without saying. Dalton was so lucky to recognize how special Ember was. There was lots of up and downs but hope was never lo ...more

This novel has a lot to love and a lot that was hard to read. It tells the story of Ember whose husband no longer treats her in any way that resembles a healthy marriage (to say the least). But she's resilient, putting on a friendly, happy face for friends and neighbors. But Dalton, another soldier in Ember's husband's group of servicemen, sees right though her thin veneer, to the pain beneath. An instant connection is made (not insta-love!)

The story of Ember and her love life....

Ember is married to Austin... waste of space, alcoholic, soldier and wife abuser.
Ember can't leave Austin because he has scared her to death with threats.

Enter Dalton.

This was my first book by this author and I think it will not be my last. Nicky Crawford has a really engaging writing style. So together with the background of this book it felt like very real and very possible scenario at times. It was easy to connect to the leading characters and I enjoyed the plot from beginning to end.

What do I say about this book? It's different than most of the books I have read (and that's A LOT), showing the difficulties of marriage to an abuser in a way that truly moves you. Though there were times I just wanted to shake her and make her leave Austin, but reality doesn't work that way. Nicky was really able to give a solid, realistic view of an abusive marriage that makes your jaw clench, your stomach spin, and your heart drop.

Dalton is a BBF to remember, for sure! He knows what he wants

If someone told me I was only allowed to read one book for the rest of my life, this would be it. Yes, it's that good!
I cried, I laughed and I lived every second of it. Nicky has a way of entrancing you, so you feel a part of the book. You don't just read the words, you feel them. Her ability to make you empathise with the characters is outstanding.

I really enjoyed this story. I was a little skeptical in the first few chapters on whether I would like it or not but I really did. Ember is such a strong female, it was so great to read that what she went through didn't change who she was as a person when someone going through what she did could very easily break them. Dalton was a sweetheart through and through for not giving up on her even when times got extremely tough, he's definitely a keeper. I'm not saying too much because I'm not giving ...more

Ember Skies is Nicky Crawford's debut novel. The plot was extremely suspenseful, and I had a hard time putting the book down; I was afraid something more might happen to Ember while I was away from the book! The subject of abuse was handled seriously and tactfully. The characters were well developed and believable. I liked that they didn't immediately jump into bed within hours or days of meeting. I look forward to seeing more books by Nicky Crawford in the future.
