If you’ve ever wondered what women pilots did during WWII, this novel gives you a great picture of the role of the Women Air Force Service Pilot (WASP) program. A story with interesting details about planes and the ladies who flew them wrapped around a sweet romance between Mandy McCabe and Major Harvey Applegate.
The author transports us back to 1943 with just the right setting, complete with period songs and lingo. Mandy is a girl trying to overcome her humble beginnings and Harve, a widower w

First let me just say if I could give this book more than 5 stars I would it was that good. It gives you that WOW!! effect.
Reading a book about how women try to succeed in man's world and succeed is not only uplifting but but made a person feel good. The book had its tragic moments, it also had its romantic moments and even funny moments. The book shows how if you work as a team things will work out most of the time.
I highly recommend this book and will read again.

Mandy McCabe wants nothing more than to fly airplanes and eventually own half interest in Skeeter’s Flight School. Growing up in Hangman’s Hollow, Tennessee in the 1940’s did not give many options to a young lady – get married, have a bunch of kids and be stuck for the rest of your life! This was not what Mandy saw as an option for herself. Joining the WASPs (Women Air Force Service Pilot) was just the ticket to get her out of that world.
Once in this new world, she had to deal with all the prej

Angel With Steel Wings by Anne Greene is a historical romance set in WWII. It tells some of the history of the WASP program. The book is very well written. The main character, two main and two almost main, were very well depicted and developed. The sub-characters were interesting also. She did a good job of bringing them all to life. You felt like you had, at least, actually met them if not knew them. The story line moves well and goes back and forth between the main characters. I did have troub ...more

This is the first book that I have read by this author and it will not be my last. The author writes a story that captures the period during WWII with accuracy. I learned many things about the war and especially about the WASPS. This group of women have courage, loyalty and love for their country. The author has given us very strong female characters and I could not put this book down.

Mandy has taken on the task of testing war planes that have been repaired. It is a dangerous job but she has co

Angel with Steel Wings - This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed the story. While I expected more about the WASPs actually flying the planes in detail, this is mainly a love story. It was interesting about the planes, just not what I expected.

The love story and the war fought in England and Germany by the male pilots were interesting and made the pages go by rather quickly with a constant moving pace. The characters ran the gamut of personalities and experiences. The emotions felt by

Angel with Steel Wings is a historical romance novel by author Anne Greene. This novel is the first of the Women of Courage series.

In this romance novel it’s up to Mandy McCabe to date Major Harvey Applegate and pretend to like him so he will not close the WASP program on their base. The author wrote the flying and landing of the planes particularly well.

I appreciated seeing the Plan of Salvation written in this story, as well as mention of Reverend Billy Graham and his wife Ruth.

I loved this book . It tells the story of the WASP. Mandy had a mission and she wasn’t going to stop at anything to see it succeed, until she met Major Harvey Applegate. A great book that kept my attention from the start of the book till the end. A story about a young lady, Mandy, who wanted to change her life and own her own flight school, flies planes that are given a second chance, during World War II and meets the Major, Harvey, in charge of the women pilots. He has been given a mission to convince Mandy that the WASP program should be swapped, while she is trying to convince Harvey why they need the program to exist. It is a story of how God lives in our li ...more

Taking place in the last few years of WWII, it shows the important roles women filled as the men were off at war. A romance between a Major, who believes a woman is to be protected and taken care of, not fly planes, and one such woman who wants to fly to help with the war effort, but most importantly for the freedom of doing something she loves. Both resisting the attraction and the feelings for each other. A good clean romance, but at times felt it dragging in details.

She is hiding from her past and she tests fighter planes. He wants to stop the programme as he has lost a loved one doing the same thing. She will fight him all the way and he will do the same. Will they come to an understanding? Could love find them? See if she can win him over

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Great story about the WASPs program in 1943-1944. Written from a WASPs point of view. Lots of history about women flying planes in WWII and enough romance to keep you turning pages until the end. Anne Greene is a great author whose writing is easy to understand and she keeps the storyline flowing.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Really enjoyed this book set during WWII. In this Christian novel I learned alot about airplanes and how women helped shape WWII. Anne certainly must have done alot of research for this book, it's now one of my favorites. Romance at Its Best

This is a wonderful story with just the right amount of romance mixed with the seriousness of the war.

If I have any complaints, it is that the pilots seem surprised by the British women working such varied jobs, but WASP flyers were just one of many jobs women in America worked during the war.
Melissa Henderson
The story took me to a time of women flying military airplanes, danger in war, the grit and determination of WASP's and a love story for the ages. I wanted to read this book because of the time period of the story. I enjoy stories by this author. Great read.

ANGEL WITH STEEL WINGS is a well-written story that takes the reader into the skies of the 1940s with Mandy McCabe, a Women Air Force Service Pilot (WASP).

Mandy is tired of being treated like a child by her domineering, hillbilly father. Though he wants the best for her, she doesn't want to remain at her dad's junkyard. She doesn't want to marry early and start raising a houseful of babies as everyone expects her to do, or to continue living her stagnant life. She dreams of becoming a pilot and

Liked the idea of the storyline and within a chapter we were looking up information about Camp Davis as we had not heard of it. Which also got us to look up the WASP, women pilot program to see what it was all about.
Mandy is stationed at Camp Davis, NC and she helps fly repair planes and other jobs. She loves being in the air and knows her machines. The women have been grounded and they gather together and Mandy is the one who might be able to change all that

It seems that heroes are made of a different fabric during war time. Men are wired to step into the line of duty and die for their country. The ultimate sacrifice.

But what of the women? During the World Wars, women's roles changed significantly. The story of Mandy and Harvey trace the work women did during the Second World War "Angel with Steel Wings" brought to light what some women did to help with the war effort. These angels flew planes as test pilots and for target training. Safe flying? Ha
