Lovestrong is an inspiring true story of the struggle for a woman to become a doctor in the early 70's when medical schools tried very hard to discourage women from becoming a doctor. Dorothy Greenbaum had been a school teacher when she realized that wasn't what she was destined to do-- she knew she wanted to be a doctor. Juggling married life with a young daughter, she enrolled to become a physician. She details all of the obstacles that were in here way including those posed by the university itself. She was a picture of grit and determination to accomplish her dream, and it helped that she had a very supportive husband who helped her to achieve her goal. Great book.

A moving memoir of a woman who decides to become a doctor in the late 1960s and early 1970s. All while being a wife and mother.

I really liked this story of how love can provide the strength to overcome incredible obstacles. I did not, however, agree with the whole idea that some people are just not made to be stay-at-home moms. I simply disagree with that. On the other hand, this woman and her family were amazing and I really did enjoy the book.

I found this book in a most unusual way!
I had requested the 'lovestrong' cd (Christina Perri) through my Interlibrary Loan service and received this book instead, HA! But I read the book anyway as I was also interested in women's health and medical education. It was a great read.

I am pretty sure I read this book, though I can find little information about it to refresh my memory. SIGH.
