this was uncomfortable to read in a way that hits you with its rawness, honesty, and intensity. this is terrifying but it's the way Xerta confronts it with such vulnerability and care is astonishing. there's something very in the moment about things being written in second person — to be fair I do read a lot of second person pov fanfiction and it's grown on me.

tw| abuse, sexual assault, victim blaming, victim shaming.

This book is hugely accomplished and a massively emotional read.

Xerta knows where they want to take you and every line within the text is a well thought out and intentional push to that place. This book is both free in its willingness to play with and challenge conventions of form, but tight in its language. It never loses its reader but requires that the reader be prepared to enter a world where light pretty much does not exist.

What is excellent about this text is that it doesn't feel bogged do
