Sunshine Griffith can communicate with ghosts. Even more amazing, she recently discovered—with the help of her would-be boyfriend, Nolan—that she’s a luiseach, one of an ancient race of creatures who have lived among humans for centuries, protecting them from dark spirits and helping them move on to the afterlife. Now, Sunshine’s powers are awakening and she feels spirits ...more

Sixth-period biology isn't where most people expect to see a ghost, but I'm not like most people. After making a note about the genetic similarities of rhesus monkeys to humans, I look up to see the old lady standing in the corner of our classroom who clearly doesn't belong there. She's short and at least ninety years old. Or maybe, I should say, she was at least ninety. She's wearing a pink terrycloth robe with embroidered flowers along the neckline. Her

It can be hard for an author when writing a series to make latter books in the series as engaging and enjoyable as book 1. That's why I am glad to say that book two is even better.

At the end of The Haunting of Sunshine Girl, Sunshine had battled against a dark demon and come face to face with her mentor, her biological dad, Aidan. Reluctant to get into a relationship with the man that abandoned her sixteen years ago, Sunshine tries to ignore Aidan. But after a scary night at the hospital, Sun

First, I have to say thank you to the author for sending me the ARC of this to review. I really enjoyed the first one, which I had received an ARC of from the publisher without even requesting. When I heard this was out, but I hadn't seen an ARC yet, I tweeted #booksfortrade asking if anyone had one. I was lucky enough to have the author see my tweet and offer to send me one. Have I mentioned before that authors are my rock stars? :-)

I've always loved ghost stories and going to haunted places. Y

Why this book?

I enjoyed the first book in the series

What I thought

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't as good as the first ,but it still had me flipping though the pages like crazy woman. In this one Sunshine has come more fully into her powers which I found interesting. I was also scared there for a bit that there was going to be a love triangle, I was like "oh no not again" but it thankfully that wasn't the case. With that s

I won this from Goodreads/author in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed the sequel of following our beloved Sunshine Girl! This book was just as good as the first for me and usually the first books are always the best, but this one might have been better. Sunshine makes a very adult decision at the age of sixteen to go off with her father and strengthen her powers. She could've chosen to stay behind and not learn anything. But she knew the right thing to do was to learn to control he ...more

The Haunting of Sunshine Girl series is a fun, entertaining series that's a breath of fresh air. In a market flooded with true to life contemporaries and heavy fantasy novels, paranormal young adult reads feel as though they are too few and far between and Sunshine Girl brilliantly bridges that gap. In the same vain as Anna Dressed in Blood, The Awakening of Sunshine Girl follows the story of Sunshine who is still coming to terms with being branded a Luiseach, a role in which she sees spirits of ...more

Building on were The Haunting of Sunshine Girl left off, Sunshine is coming to terms with being a Luiseach. She sees spirits and has the power to guide them safely through to the other side. Unlike other Luiseach though, Sunshine has powers that go far and beyond what is normally possible and it is her birth-father Aiden who wants to teach her to harness that power not only for her fellow beings but for mankind too.

In a location well away from her mother and protector (Nolan), Sunshine with the

Video review:

I loved seeing where this story is going. At places it was a lot of info dumping and got a little slow, something that can happen with middle books. This also threw off the pacing a bit, specially has the chapter kept starting and stoping.

I can't wait to read where all of this is leading us to.

The Awakening of Sunshine Girl is the second book in The Haunting of Sunshine Girl series, and picks up shortly after the first book finished. If you have yet to read the first book, turn back now – to really understand and appreciate this one, you need to have read the first book in the series.

Much like the first book, The Awakening of Sunshine Girl gives you exactly what you would expect from a young adult horror novel. It is not a terrifying read, but it does have the constant vibe of there b

I loved this book and the only reason that it doesn’t have five stars is because towards the end the book seemed to really slow down. I’m not sure if it was just because I didn’t have as much time to read or if it was the story itself but I struggled picking this book back up towards the end! I do know I loved the story being told, I adore Sunshine and the characters that have developed in this middle book of the trilogy, and I cannot wait to read the third and final book in the trilogy!

I love the fact that this book didn’t suffer from middle book syndrome. Book 1 in the series “The Haunting of Sunshine Girl” was a fun and suspenseful read.
Now finishing the second book in the series “The Awakening of Sunshine Girl” I have to say, still has me hooked to read the final book. What an ending! 😊
I recommend it for anyone who likes quirky ghost stories that will leave you with a cliffhanger almost every time.

I received an arc copy through Goodreads giveaways.

The sequel to The Haunting of Sunshine Girl picks up soon after the end of the first book. Sunshine is still learning how to handle being a luiseach and how to help spirits move on. When Sunshine learns that her father is her mentor he convinces her to let him help her learn how to control her abilities.

There are not as many creepy moments in this book as there were in the first book, but there are a lot of interesting interactions that Sunshin

Based on the Youtube series, which I still have to watch is Book #2 in the series about Sunshine Griffiths. Sunshine was abandoned as a baby on the footsteps of the local hospital, and now she is sixteen she is experiencing new and weird things. She has now learned that she is part of a rare race called luseach and that she is the last one of the line. Her biological father has returned to collect Sunshine so that she can start learning how to fight and expand her skills. While doing so on the c
When I saw The Awakening of Sunshine Girl on NetGalley I knew I had to read this, I was eager to find out what happens next for Sunshine in her personal life, as well as her new powers. The Awakening of Sunshine Girl picks up after the events in the previous book, Sunshine is still learning how to be a Luiseach, how to deal with everything that comes with it, as well as going to school and being a 'normal' teenager. Her dad, Aidan, is still trying to persuade Sunshine to train with him, for him ...more

I don't remember when I first saw The Haunting of Sunshine Girl, maybe on Barnes and Noble's website or even their shelves. All I knew was, the cover was unique, off in a way and the girl was lovely. I tend to gravitate towards pretty things... as marketing is supposed to incite, especially if there's a hideous creature, I'd have probably wanted it even more! LOL Then as the book sat on my shelf, in queue, I found out The Awakening of Sunshine Girl was on the way. So I pre-ordered it and waited ...more
“The Awakening of Sunshine Girl” is a great follow-up to “The Haunting of Sunshine Girl.” It has all of the humor and chills of the original, while furthering the story of how Sunshine came to be.

The plot breezes along at an easy to read pace that doesn’t slow down. All of the favorite characters from the first book are back, just as enjoyable as before, along with the addition of some new ones. All of the history of the Luiseach was fascinating and made me want to learn more.

I liked this book even better than the first one! Now I have to wait a year until the last one. Ugh. So, in this book, Sunshine goes with Aiden to Mexico to learn how to control her powers. While she is there, she learns more about her past. Who is the bad guy? Can Sunshine actually be and do what they want and hope she can do? More ghosts and demons and drama abound in this second book in the Sunshine girl series. This is another fun story to read. I received this book free to review from Netga ...more

I love these books! I ordered it the day it came out! This book is filled with mystery, and surprise and love and action and most importantly it is filled with plain awesomeness. I finished this book seconds ago and I can't really find the right words to describe it because of the reverberating shock given off by that unbelievable cliff-hanger!!!! Ahhh! I don't know how I'm going to wait an entire year for the next book. It will be a struggle.

The Awakening of Sunshine girl is the thrilling sequel to The Haunting of Sunshine Girl. Sunshine has now accepted what she is and her mentor has finally revealed himself only to take her to Mexico to a training facility. Not only does Sunshine learn how to properly use her powers, she discovers things she never knew she could do as well as bonds with other people. In comparison to "The Haunting of Sunshine Girl," this installment feels a bit uneven. Sunshine goes away with Aidan to Mexico, to strengthen her abilities as a luiseach. While Sunshine does indeed get to hone her skills, she also discovers that most of the other living luiseachs see her as a threat - and want her eliminated.

Maybe it's the new location - sunny Mexico, with a dilapidated luiseach headquarters surrounded by tiny villages - that makes this novel less compelling than the first. The
