To the Rescue, written by Kate Riggs and illustrated by Nate Williams, is a dark tale in which enormous animals have taken control over a city's rescue vehicles. Giant dogs and cats race around in ambulances, elephants and snakes have been deputized, and a hippo tow-truck driver disrespects the Lion Pope. Humans apparently still drive fire trucks, but elephants do the hard work.

I found this book both confusing and entertaining. The pictures are delightful and the text serves as an introduction to the different types of rescue vehicles that its target audience (preschoolers) can understand. However, the storyline is difficult to follow. It hints at an uprising by animals and the enslavement of humanity but...we just don't know....

No real story, but my 2yo picked this one herself and she loves it. The illustrations are cute.
