A Better Man is the first book in Candis Terry’s new Sunshine Creek Vineyard series. It touched me on many levels, but most deeply in regards to Nicole, Jordan’s 17 year old sister who, like many teens her age, has an attitude problem which seems to be going from bad to worse. Jordan is taking the brunt of her wrath and as he takes a closer look at his role in her life – or non-role, in this case – he can’t help but want to do whatever he can to help her work her way through the tragic loss of t ...more

Welcome to Sunshine Creek Vineyard and the infamous Kincade brothers who will do anything to protect their own and their legacy. Jordan Kincade, is a hockey star, playing in the pros for fifteen years and is a star among his team and about to carry them to a big win for the team. But then Jordan gets a horrific call, where his parents have been killed in a crash while on vacation. Jordan returns home immediately, not having bee

Another fantastic start to a new series by this author I am really liking. Our hero is a professional athlete who has it all, money, fame, women but when his parents suddenly die he realises in his pursuit of his dreams he lost his connection to his family somewhere along the way. He also sees how troubled his 17-year-old-sis, a sis he barely knows is. He vows to do much better, even if it means time away from his game and goes to the heroine to seek help. Our heroine is a teacher who truly care ...more

This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. This story was just what I was in the mood for. I'd been thinking about a story where the shy girl in high school met the popular guy after college. This was that and more. I so enjoyed it.

Characters are really important to me in a book. If I don't like them, feel like they are real or relate to them in some way, then I usually don't enjoy the story. I felt the connection to these characters quickly. Lucy was the quiet gir
Terrific story of family, love and second chances. Jordan left his home and family behind at the age of eighteen, when he was drafted to play professional hockey. This had been his dream for many years, and it took precedence in his life. Everything came crashing down when he got a call from his oldest brother, telling him that their parents had been killed in an accident while on vacation.

I ached for Jordan when he got home. Thanks to his concentration on his career, he had spent little time wi

I loved Candis Terry's Sweet, Texas series, so I immediately bought this one. I love to have new contemporary romance series to follow, you know?

The first chapter was rather sad -- when Jordan found out about his parents' death right after winning the game *sniff*. I couldn't imagine the turmoil that he experienced. But I loved what he did afterwards, that he decided to be with his family, to get to know his younger sister (whom he 'lovingly' called baby dragon *lol*) and to make things right.

This as a lot of fun, but suffered somewhat for being the start of a new romance series. That meant it needed a lot of establishing for the family, the business, and some of the conflicts that they'll likely be facing in the coming novels. All the distraction was a shame because it left me feeling like Jordan got the short end of the stick (hah, hockey allusion!).

All that said, I do love me a second-chance love story and this is an excellent example of the trope. Jordan and Lucy had an almost-fl

Reviewed for herding cats & burning soup.

Well that was a nice kick off to a series. Likeable characters, a gorgeous setting, turmoil and family coming together after a devastating loss, righting wrongs long past and finding a second chance at romance. There was a little of everything including a little mystery along the way.

The quick of it is that after their parents are killed Jordan and his siblings have all come home to get things in order and make decisions and

This is book 1 in a brand new series by Ms. Terry and I just fell in love with the plot and the Kincade brothers.

Jordan is a hockey star and things come easy to him. His team is on the way to the playoffs when he gets a call that his parents have passed away in a helicopter accident. He heads home to be with his siblings but when he gets there he realizes that he doesn't really know them anymore but he wants to. It's time for him to right his wrongs. It may take time but when he is done he will

I had read and enjoyed some of Candis's other books, so I was eager to see how a new series went.

I really liked Lucy and Jordan. Their past relationship made for an easy way for them to fall back into friendliness and the banter and flirting wasn't too far behind. I liked the big family and all of the brothers were fun. Some of the best scenes were between Jordan and his little sister.

There was a bit of conflict with the family business and even though we got a bit of an answer, it wasn

Small town romances are some of my favorites and the fact that this is set at a family Winery is all the more reason I wanted to read it. This is the first book in a new series about family, wine and romance.

The Kincade family runs a winery in Washington State. The large family is close but various businesses and jobs take them away from the area, but when tragedy strikes they reunite to face the pain. The five brothers and one younger sister are grief stricken as they bury their parents and dec

A Better Man is the start of the Sunshine Creek Vineyard series which focuses on the Kincade siblings whose lives are thrown for a loop when their parents are killed in an accident and they must come together to save the family business. I thought both Jordan and Lucy were really well-written. They were relatable and I wanted them to be happy. They each had their own issues to deal with (Jordan developing a new role within his family and Lucy trusting someone with her personal feelings) a

Too many plot holes.
All the brothers are absent but Nicole is only mad at one of them.

The brothers barely talk. And if all are responsible for Nicole why is it that Jordan is the only one that suddenly feels responsible? And if ryan is already taking care of his daughter, adding a 17 yo, wouldnt change his routine too much. Especially considering he is supposed to be the closest to her. He was always around as he worked with their dad.

It doesnt make any sense the way they deal with the fallout.

Candis Terry scores big in her new Sunshine Creek Vineyard series. We meet the Kincades, who are devastated by the news that their parents - the steady rocks of their family - have died in a tragic accident.

Jordan Kincade is at the height of his career as an NHL player. He has a major contract, lots of women, and more money than he knows what to do with...but he realizes none of it means anything, as he can't help his little sister, 17-yr-old Nicole, grieve...or shake her teenage attitude. He's

The thing I most love about Candis Terry's books are her characters. They have such depth to them. You can never take them at face value. A Better Man is the first in a new series and she starts that series out with a bang!

I loved the characters!

You only get the bare minimum about the brothers but that's okay, you know their stories are come! You get a little bit more about the sister, that's because her story works into Jordan's.

I really liked Jordan. It's not easy when you wake up and realiz

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

At first I thought this was going to be just another hockey player story, but was I wrong. The depth of character that Jordan demonstrates throughout the book is refreshing. As the book progresses you see how the deaths of Jordan's parents affect him and who he strived to be for so long. Coming home is not all its cracked up to be, especially in light of all that's happened, and he can't help but feel on the outside looking

3.5 bumped to 4 Ziggy Stars! I mean, really? This dog stole the show. Well, OK, not entirely, but he is pretty awesome. So, this is the first in the Sunshine Creek Vineyard series about the Kincade family. It's a stand-alone, but there is a mystery that isn't solved which I'm guessing will spill over into the next books in the series. It involves family secrets...

This was the first book I have read by Candis Terry. It was a very enjoyable read. It was heart-felt full of kindness, second chances, and love. I'm a sucker for hockey romance books so that is why it caught my attention to begin with. I also liked Lucy's character... the girl next door that had her own secrets and hardships. I loved how she let Jordan in and felt emotions toward him. I also like how persistent Jordan was with getting to know Lucy and not letting her run away. I think I would ha ...more

Lucky and Jordan

All the love, family dynamics and drama you need to feel a part of it. Jordan being a badass on the ice, but such a romantic deep down when it counted was sigh worthy. The heat was spicy and the humor was the icing. Just another really great read from Candis.

A classic, modern romance novel complete with the rich and famous sport player, the almost virginal school teacher and the angst that you’d expect when the two are thrown together.
