'At a time when we are paying a heavy price for the collective delusion that being plugged in 24/7 is an express elevator to the top, The Off Switch reminds us that there is an alternative. Mark Cropley shows that intentionally switching off from work is not only essential for our well-being, it also allows for the unwinding and renewal that help us perform at our best

A really useful book for me as a teacher. The book itself used teachers as examples quite a bit which I fthink made me feel like someone was listening in a way and that the difficulties of the job were acknowledged. Moreover, it gives practical strategies to take control of your time outside work and helps to stop ruminating over the day that has passed. I can highly recommend it to anyone who overthinks their day even when it's long past their bedtime!

This book doesn't just use case studies and evidence to prove that we need to switch off from work, it actually provides you with techniques to enable you to do so.
Very informative, interesting and very helpful in switching me off from work, helping my stress and anxiety levels and also helping me to be more productive whilst at work.

Honestly it had some okay advice. My main issue was that the guy didn't set himself up. As a fellow scientist (*coughs) it would have been better to know his background before taking his advice you know?

Anyways the book focuses a LOT on emails. Like I guess this guy is a professor so emails are a big part of his life but it would have been useful if it had broadened the book to try encompass more jobs/professions.

Some parts I really liked and I am actually using some of the advice in this book

This book is a broad introduction to a lot of issues surrounding work-related anxiety. It contains many practical exercises and anecdotes but I found it very shallow. On the plus side, I was able to read it in about an hour.
