This book gives the reader a series of complicated ideas in such a simple staight forward way that it is an easy and fun read. Stories illustrate how family up-bringing influences not only the choice of partner but how partners relate to each other. It is an optimistic book. Problems are reframed to challenges in relationship and the reader is shown how to use "problems" to grow in self knowledge and understaning of another.
I like the next book, "Fishing by Moonlight, the Art of Enhancing Intimate Relationship" even better. It uses some of the same material and exercises to apply to couples as well as people who are choosing partners.

In search of books with a unique view on romantic relationships, this utilized the typical psychotherapy model with much emphasis on childhood experiences. We have more capacity for change than this model allows. Despite the efforts to "get it right this time", this model suggests we repeat behaviors earned early in life. It does have unique exercises for the reader to explore their past and the impact it has on their current relationships. The book finishes quite strongly, addressing healthy relationships. I plan to quote part of this section in my blog at www.earnitbook.com/blog.
