Can't put my finger on why precisely, but this didn't do it for me.

I was not a fan of this novella. To me the characters felt too standard and one dimensional, and didn't have enough time to develop in a plausible way. Their problems were resolved far too easily and I just didn't believe in any of them. Plus the opening had far too much telling of who the characters were and not enough showing; it was like our opinions of them was being forced on us rather than allowing us to come to our own conclusions based on their actions. I'm sure there is room to develop this story, but its short page count and slightly lazy character development just meant that everything felt far too rushed.

Void is an emotional packed tale about a group of six friends who all come from messed up situations and try to deal with their own underlying issues that tend to hold them back. Each unique character has a number of personal struggles they try to overcome that are connected to the world, from domestic abusive, controlling relationships, struggles with sexual identity, loss of a loved one and many more real-life tragedies and dilemmas that are very difficult to defeat.
Sometimes my own words escape me as I try to recount the beauty, the powerful message of hope and the true understanding of friendship, family and love that this unique story unfolds. Rarely have I read a book as profound and as moving as this one that has reduced me to tears and fuelled a number of emotional responses for these wonderfully developed real-life characters’
VOID is a keeper that I will keep re-visiting time and time again.

Void is a novella which explains the deep relation between six friends. Author succeeded in portraying the friendship in a very effective manner. The love, understanding and unity between them is clearly visible.
Everyone has their share of problems to deal with. It is interesting to watch how they come together and fight the world. Several issues like domestic violence, discrimination against mono sexuality, exploitation of the employees by the corporate etc are addressed with responsibility and sensibility. Through the lives of the friends, author reinforces the fact that we should follow our passion to lead a happy life. The book tells us that there are certain circumstances when we should let go of the past. Overall its a sincere, interesting and emotional story and the author has done justice to the story line.
There a a few grammatical errors and typos but novelist cannot be blamed since its the editor's job. Another fact which disturbed me is that there is a wave of anti family emotion all over the story. Author could have mentioned that not all families are evil, may be by introducing Javier's or Elaine's family.
Everything put together , its a simple and interesting book which enables to reader to keep on reading.

This is the second Anthony Avina story that I have read and it's the second time that I have been so impressed by his work. He has a way of writing that really sucks you in and makes you want to keep reading, until the next thing you know it's over. It was a really quick novella that had me wrapped up in it from chapter one.
Void follows the lives of six friends as they get through trying times in their lives. Javier is depressed after his girlfriend is killed by a drunk driver, Pamela is living with a verbally abusive alcoholic father, Jasper is gay but has yet to come out tot his very religious parents, Michelle is in a physically abusive relationship, and Brienne and Julian are married but struggling to keep it together. All must ignore the troubles going on in their separate lives to help bring each other up to let each other know the true meaning of family.
I loved all of the characters, they each played a crucial role in the story and made me wish I had friends like this. I loved how they dropped everything to be there for each other no matter what was going on. Everyone needs a friend like that- I'm glad I have one like that. I like that all of the characters were believable, they were going through real problems and it made them so much stronger.
