A short book filled with excellent information about the saguaro cactus found in the Sonora Desert. Photos and drawings illustrate the answers to frequent asked question from curious tourists.
I really liked this book. I moved from Wisconsin to Arizona and immediately became fascinated with this incredible cactus. The book is full of all sorts of interesting information, including how old they get, how big they get, how they are pollinated, and why some branches point downward instead of up (previous cell damage from freezing over time makes cells weaker and unable to hold weight of branch up), and other interesting facts.
I now think that I know more about saguaros than I will ever need to. Best new factoids: cannot self-pollinate, illegal to collect fruit, and flowers without a special permit.
