I just didn't really enjoy this book. The illustrations were nice, but the writing seemed kinda stilted, but maybe that's because it's more of a beginning reader than a picture book. I'm also not sure the message was really made. It's supposed to be about self-control, but the way it was written it seemed like Splash and her tail were two different entities that just happened to get along at the right time, not that she learned how to keep her tail still. Eh, I don't know. It didn't click with ...more

As an adult reading a book that is clearly directed towards a much younger reading audience I am probably going to be a lot harder on the book itself then if I was younger or had children who I could read to or who could read on their own. As such although the series looks fun and seems decently presented it was definitely not my favorite - please give me back Serendipity!

Anyway for this particular book the writing font is definitely big and boldish so that readers won't have a problem with

I'm charmed by this delightful series by Kallie George. Splash is a young sea serpent who has a hard time behaving like sea serpents should. Even his grandfather has a hard time training him. Will Splash be able to behave when it really matters?
What I liked most about this book is that at the end, it focuses on learning in meaningful circumstances. Isn't this what all kids need?
Geneviève Côtés illustrations are perfect for this beginning reader series.

Both the art and the story were adorable
This book is really cute. The story is cute, Splash the sea serpent somehow learns to stop splashing by being herself instead of a log or a shadow. I'm always down for some Geneviève Côté tho. Her illustrations are so adorable and lively! I'm definitely going to check out the others in this series of baby mythological creatures!

Poor little Splash, she tries so hard to be quiet but, her tail has other ideas. Mama and Papa seek Grampy's help with Splash when her tail cannot be silent. Then, danger suddenly appears! And, Splash is able to do what a sea serpent is supposed to do, be silent. Nice soft illustrations.
