Not Your Mother's Goose proves that fairy tales and nursery rhymes aren't just for kids anymore. Envision it as the Cliffs Notes of children's stories — if Cliffs Notes was overtaken by Dave Barry or the folks at The Onion. Not Your Mother's Goose is a series of totally irreverent, mega-sarcastic fairy tale recaps, along with a host of hilarious fake news stories and headl ...more

Well, this book just made me realize that adults can be thrown into fits of laughter by some craftily twisted fairytales! Get prepared for a laughter riot once you get hold of this book. It's amazing how the author uses fairytales to satirize many aspects of daily life. We normally associate fairytales with miraculously good stuff, things that are too good to be true. But this book takes the drama out of fairytales and distorts them. This is clever humor at its best.

I loved everything about this

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.. and HONESTLY I loved it. I thought the book overall was funny, witty, and well thought-out.

Right off the bat, the introduction had me laughing out loud (some would say LOLing..) and I was suddenly engrossed in the many stories before me.

This books consists of many short stories or "retellings" of well-known fairy tales. From the "woman known worldwide who has never gotten a hair cut" (Rapunzel), to "the Gingerbread Man, every

I love to read good comedic writing, precisely because of how hard it is to find, but I find I'm often let down. Reading the reviews for this title I decided to give it a go.

Oh my Lord, was that ever a great decision. Whenever I am pissed off outside my house running from appointment to appointment I pull out my Kindle and read a few of the stories. I have literally started crying at some of the jokes.

One great quality of solid comedians is their ability to find the ridiculousness in the obvio
I have not re-read fairy tales a long time, so I had forgotten most of them. Not Your Mother's Goose was a great reminder with a twist. These are modern versions of fairy tales. You may want to read them when you've tired telling Cinderella to your kids before bed every evening, want a laugh or you are just a bitter, bitter person tired of sugary stuff.

It is not a mere funny retelling of fairy tales, it's often a satire of modern word. It makes fun of celebrities and quirks in today's society.

A mixed bag of adult spins on classic fairy-tales, Not Your Mother's Goose had me snorting just reading the introduction, so I had high hopes when I started reading it.

The stories ranged from mildly amusing to "Whatcha laughin' about, mummy?" from the Snuglet as I cackled on the couch. My favorite has to be the short little article on Rapunzel's first bikini wax, but Mr. Goggin has a couple winners in his re-tellings of Snow White and Bambi, as well as the short little "taken from the headlines"

Short and fun, this is a clever compilation of fairy tales and nursery rhymes re-told with a modern twist. The author gives interpretive summaries of a multitude of fairy tales and folk tales, including "Rumplestiltskin", "Sleeping Beauty", "Snow White", "Hansel and Gretel", and "The Tortoise and the Hare", just to name a few, infusing sarcasm and wit into each. He also includes headlines from supposed newspaper articles and occasionally the article as well. These headlines were some of my favor ...more

I received a free copy from the author for an honest review.

This book is a compilation of fairy tales retold with adult humor. It was filled with funny sarcastic storytelling with some modernness. The stories made me smile and laugh a lot. The writing was well done. The stories had some matter of factness, quick wit and interestingly different personalities of well known fairy tale characters. These stories are for people with an open mind, a sarcastic sense of humor and are not easily offended

I can honestly say I laughed out loud multiple times while reading this. From the very sarcastic re-cap of Bambi to the Facebook and Twitter pages of Rumpelstiltskin I promise you will laugh until you cry. Happy tears of course.

I am a sarcastic person so this was right up my alley (pun intended). There was just enough inappropriateness sprinkled here and there to keep it funny without being too crass.

The re-telling of each story is unique and creative. Even the "reviews" on the back of the book

I was provided a copy for an honest review.
I have to say this book was quite funny, it is short re-telling's of the classic fairy tales. Now to be clear they are not full stories. You will never look at these stories the same once you read this book.
All of the fairy tales are not in the book just quite a few. I have to say each one had me laughing in some way or another the whole thing with Rapunzel and a bikini wax OMG. I really liked the way the author

I got this book sent to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review....

This was a fun quick read. I can honestly say I don't know what adult would buy this book unless u were gifting it. It looks like a child's book, but it is not!

This book is the cliff notes of all old fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and anything else you have heard as a child. The author puts it in an adult perspective with some added humor

Not all stories where great but the few I loved kept me reading! Bambi had to be o

Not Your Mother's Goose by Topher Goggin is one book we all need to have. If you ever have a bad day just pull it out and begin reading and before you know it, you'll be giggling, laughing and really cracking up, while saying, "What bad day"? The nursery rhymes are so much fun to read and they keep you smiling and laughing throughout. I love them. This is a 5 starred, wish I could give it more, highly recommended to everyone.
