"Rosco the Rascal Goes to Camp by Shana Gorian is a beautiful story of friendship which revolves around Rosco, a two-year-old German Shepherd who goes to a summer sleep-away-camp for the first time with James and his sister Mandy. The young campers have to adjust to the new surroundings and also have to overcome their fear as they are away from their comfort zone for the first time. At the camp, they meet different kinds of children and also go through many adventures which make the kids experience new things that remove their fears and also help them to overcome obstacles in their lives. It also shows the heroic behavior of Rosco who helps James and Mandy. It's a story of trust; it's a story of friendship, and children will be entertained till the very end.

The adventures the kids experience at the camp are tangible and relateable, making the story enjoyable. Its an excellent bedtime storybook that kids will enjoy listening to before going to bed. It can also be used for interactive sessions in classrooms and school libraries. Rosco is lovable and all kids will want to have a companion like Rosco by the time they finish reading this book. The book is also informative and children get to know what happens at a summer camp and the various activities that take place when they are at a camp. The book conveys good messages which makes it more appealing as the qualities of trust, loyalty, and friendship are highlighted as the story unfolds."

A story of trust and friendship
By Amazon Customer on July 8, 2015
Format: Paperback
This review is from 10 year old boy:
"Rosco is back and he is at camp! This is an interesting adventurous tale of friendship and trust. When Rosco’s owner James faces a trouble making jokester, he finds that the only thing that will save the day is kindness. Rosco has to trust this trouble maker to free him in the storm and when a dog is mean to Rosco, Rosco wins him over by his friendliness to the trouble maker. This book is fun for boys and girls who like dogs and camping."

The author, Shana Gorian, did a great job describing camp life. In fact I wish i could go to Camp Hickory Ridge to join in the fun and great activities. I really liked when the campers were playing Capture The Flag. I never heard of this game nor have I played it before reading this book. It looked like so much fun.

Rosco The Rascal Goes To Camp made me laugh but it also made me very mad in some parts. Why did it make me mad? Jeffrey and Sheriff, that's why!

Jeffery was a camper at Camp Hickory Ridge. He was a bully who was always playing pranks on the other occupants of the camp. Sheirff was the Director of Camp Hickory Ridge's bull mastiff. If you do not know what a bull mastiff is it is a VERY large dog. Sheriff bullied Rosco (a German Shepherd belonging to one of the campers) because he was jealous that the kid's liked Rosco more than Sheriff. Thankfully Jeffery and Sheriff changed as the story unfolded and they became more likeable.

I really liked this book. I think others would like it to. Highly reccommend.

It is a great book for children starting to read chapter books. This book deals with themes that are less known in other children's books. From learning about camp activities, coping with home sickness, and standing up to a bully it embodies an interesting summer camp week. I love the way it is written because it makes me feel part of the story especially when Rosco is mentioned. He's an intelligent, wonderful, fast dog. That's not all! He is our hero of the story and you will get attached to him in the first chapter. Who doesn't love a good dog story?! This book also teaches lessons about good vs evil. Good always prevails even if one has to be patient. Also the bad guys learn a lesson as well and that is not to mess with Rosco! It's a fun and loving book that your child will definitely enjoy and I recommend it!

This was a lovely book where the good guys always win and the bad guy learns his lesson. It's so refreshing to see a book that holds the attention and interest of children without resorting to the gross toilet humor and sarcasm that so many kid's books have today.
There is plenty of action and suspense, as well as the added fun element of the 2 dogs. Great book for children developing their chapter book skills.

This is a great kids' book or a book to read to children. It is well written with proper vocabulary and description.
It explained camp, making friends, and included a troublemaker. It was fun to watch how the children handled mayhem.
Rosco also learned how to win over his own friend while staying true to his human family.
This was an extraordinary book!
I look forward to finding more books in this series and by this author!

Rosco the Rascal Goes to Camp by Shana Gorian is a fun book to read and it teaches many lessons as well. Whether you've ever gone away to camp or not, who can't relate to being nervous about doing something new. Siblings, James and Mandy, are off to camp. James is an old pro at it, while this is Mandy's first year. While Mandy is nervous about camp, James helps her along to become more comfortable with what goes on there. Their dog Rosco goes to camp with them too, and it's fun to see parts of the story from his point of view. Young readers will have fun reading about their escapades at camp while learning how to overcome fears, helping others out, and learning what it takes to be a friend.

This has been the best one in the series so far!

I loved Rosco's adventures at camp and how this book contained very defined plot points compared to the previous books. It was exciting to read and there were lessons for being friendly to kids who may be hard to be friends with (not necessarily a "bully", but generally unkind and acting out for attention).

Overall, this one has been my favorite of the series and I'm excited about the remaining book!

What a great time Rosco and his family and friends have at camp! I've never been to camp but I can tell Shana has and she makes it sound very fun. I like how the dogs in this story have fun too. This would be a great story for any child who is nervous about going to camp for the first time or for children who have already been to camp to remind them of what fun they had.

My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
