Once upon a time, that’s how most of these stories start. But this isn’t one of those stories… Sure, it has the heroine and the hero but they’re not as you would expect them. Both of them have a bloodlust, one different from the other. Quill was born and raised as a cold killer who takes enjoyment from the kill. Nero is the son of a Viking and a 1500-year-old vampire whose never been denied his pleasures before. Until he meets Quill. He forces her to exchange her life for Rose’s, his indentured servant and Quill’s little sister. Drawn by her fearlessness and strength he has to have her but such a woman cannot be possessed. Both must learn to give up their carefully afforded control to let the other in. Only then may they have their happily forever after. Sink your teeth into this dystopic re-telling of Beauty and the Beast and satiate your booklust. Get whisked away to another world in this magical retelling of a classic Fairy Tale by fan-favourite author Kyleigh Castronaro.
Kyleigh Castronaro is a Canadian who grew up dreaming about vampires, witches and faeries. She has always sought and cultivated the magic inside of her, using her words to bring magic to the pages for her readers. Happily married to the love of her life, she believes in happily ever afters and hopes to convince readers of them too.
Quill also known as Isabelle lives on the fringes in the Desecrated with other humans who were not deemed perfect. She knows how to fight and how to slip in and out of the city. These abilities allow her to be a part of a team that protect other members of the Desecrated. She ran away leaving the Pure behind her and her sister. On one of her missions she finds her sister but by helping her sister escape she meets Nero.
Nero also lives outside of the city. As an old vampire he is well respected and feared but stays out of the politics of the city. He has been watching Isabelle when she comes to the city and he wants her as his. When she releases Rose he has an opportunity to get what he wants. With an instant attraction will they be able to be together or will the past get in the way.
I really enjoyed this book the writing was descriptive and flowed well. The author created a world easy to imagine filled with some of my favourite’s feisty females, werewolves and vampires. The relationship between Isabelle and Nero does not always run smooth but grows well during the book. There are some interesting twists and turns that keep you intrigued through to the end.
This is a great read and I would be happy to recommend it. If you like paranormal romance this is a must. A great start to a series.
*I received this book in exchange for an honest review*
Who doesn't love a fairy tale? Especially a twisted fairy tale! Yes, please! This book has merged a few of my favorite genres into one. Dystopian, paranormal, fairy tale with a twisted happily ever after. This is a great re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. We start with Quill. She escaped the trapped life in the city under her sadistic father and is living freely among the Desecrated. She is trying to help others gain this freedom as well. All hell breaks loose when she goes into the city trying to gather information on other Desecrated that were kidnapped. Here she runs into tall, dark and handsome. She hates him! Loathes him! She then finds her sister by accident and does all she can to help her escape. This is where things get tricky. She gets caught and ends up trading her life for her sister's. Now Quill is on this incredible journey learning things about the world that are supposed to be make-believe. She is one strong woman and brings even the most strongest of man, or "other", to his knees. Desecrated Beauty is action packed and fast moving. The author will keep you wanting. Once you start you will have to finish! I look forward to more in this series.
As the blurb describes this is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The Beast in this case being a 1500 year old vampire called Nero. He has claimed her as his and his attraction to her is for more than a romp and a meal. Quill on the other hand doesn't exactly feel the need to be polite or even civil to him as they story begins. Threatening to stake his ass on more than one occasion and even coming daringly close at one sultry point. (point.. puns) Which gets her bed dismantled. Those around her are all vampires like himself and tell her of their situation and what she learns in the opening scenes allows the author to truly show the Bestial qualities of this vampire. There are no lovey scenes no real heart to hearts, this story is sorta primal, and very raw. When the characters do finally hit their marks it's savage and heated. Truly a well timed event.
But there are sinister things at play, and you must read to find out what tears them apart and how they manage to come back together in a bloody mess of feeling. All I can say is I can't wait to read the author's next Fairy Tale.
I received an ARC when I signed up to host the book tour. I made no guarantee of a favorable review.
I'm a sucker for fairy tales so when I saw the words "A Twisted Fairy Tale" on the cover, I knew I had to read it.
Quill is a strong minded woman and lives as she chooses unlike many of he women in her society and she is a bad ass rebel. When she goes on a mission to rescue some desecrated that have gone missing, she runs into her sister whom she hasn't seen in some time. Nero is the mysterious man who enters Quill's life, however; he's not a man....he's a vampire!!!
This book is fabulous! Wonderfully paced story line with characters that are well substantiated and the sexual situations between Quill and Nero are steamy. The author captures you and weaves you into her fantastic web and does not disappoint. This was the first book I've read by this author and I am anticipating that the next book will be just as good as this one....if not better!!!!
This is definitely a different take on the typical Beauty and the Beast story. Quill lives in a society that reminds me of the Divergent book series. Quill has a huge chip on her shoulder due to the treatment she received from her father and him forcing her to train to be a soldier. Nero is a vampire who likes to have power over others but doesn't want to be in a position to rule. It's very interesting watching the interaction between them from the beginning as Quill comes to live with Nero in exchange for her sister Rose going free from Nero.
I need a Nero in my life and my bed. *fans self* Just dayyyum y'all. LOL I highly recommend this if you like dystopian/paranormal books because it is definitely a good read. I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next.
The writing in this book is spectacular, which is what kept me reading even though the story wasn't my cup of tea. I didn't realize it was a dystopian vampire story at first, and while I knew it was a retelling of a fairy tale, I didn't realize which one it was right away. When I figured it out, I was delighted by the subtle, yet sophisticated references to the original story. For me, those touches were what made the book special. I kept reading because I wanted to see how the author incorporated the rest of the story.
A huge twist on beauty and the beast. I really liked how the story flowed. It wasn't predictable it was fun, unique and sassy. The characters were strong, smart, independent and full of sass. I look forward to reading more from the author. I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
Loved it! This was definitely a different take on Beauty and the Beast but I absolutely loved it. Nero and Quill are amazing characters who both have a lot of pain in their past. I love that Quill is so not girly. She’s bad@$$ and doesn’t want to give up her control to anyone. Then she meets Nero.
I want to be Quill! What a great twist on a classic tale. Couldn’t put it down. Really want more of the story. Became slightly invested in their lives and what to know what might happen next.
Title: Desecrated Beauty (Twisted Fairy Tales #1) Author: Kyleigh Castronaro Genre: Paranormal Romance Publication Date: July 6, 2015 Number of pages: approx. 180 Word Count: 58,883 Cover Artist: Kyleigh Castronaro
ARA'S NOTE: I've always been a fan of heroines who are tough, kickass, and independent. Add to that a fanged hottie who is not afraid to get what he wants. Who doesn't like a good vampire story? I'm definitely not immune to the charm and sexiness that comes with books like this. So obviously I had to sink my teeth (pun intended) Desecrated Beauty, and boy was it a treat.
SYNOPSIS: Once upon a time, that’s how most of these stories start.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND: Quill, a.k.a. Izzy, a.k.a. Isabelle is a strong, independent, and angry woman. She doesn't let herself feel much, prefering only anger and lust. Caring for other people is something she tries hard to fight because she's afraid to experience the pain caused by loss. Her sister is the only person she loves, and she will do everything for her...that includes trading places with her to be under the "protection" of something she never thought truly existed.
Nero is manipulative and controlling, but well-respected. He protects the people under his protection and he treats them as family. He's never been denied of anything he wanted, but this caused him to be somewhat bored with things around him. That is until he met a certain woman who didn't fall for his charms, doesn't stop trying to fight him, and is stubborn beyond reason.
REVIEW: From the very first page, you get sucked in this fast-paced, action-packed, and sickeningly twisted world. The writing is phenominal! I loved how descriptive and clear Kyleigh is when telling stories; I can almost feel my knucles ache during the fight scenes, as well as see Quill's surroundings. Speaking of our female lead, I loved how awesome she is. She doesn't feel compelled to follow "standards", takes no crap from anyone, and does not accept nonsense. However, her insensitivity and coldness are just too overwhelming at times. Let's talk about the romance part of the story. At first, I was truly surprised at the crassness and suddeness of how Nero approached Quill. I mean, I seriously understand why our heroine acted the way she did. Then the story progresses and we see the steam between them, then comes the heart melting sweetness. This is a complex book with lots of mystery, action, romance, and a whole lot more.
SUMMARY: This is an engaging paranormal romance book that I absolutely loved. It made me think of Divergent and 40 Days of Night. I give it 4.5 stars and recommend it to readers of this genre who enjoys a bit of adult content.
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
So who loved Beauty and the Beast?? MEEEE and this book was a perfect paranormal version of it but with giant huge twists and turns. I loved the world and would totally love to read more from it. Quill is a warrior not a breeder. We slowly learn that our warrior girl has lots of secrets…like LOTS!! She is sent on a mission to help save some humans from the city when she meets a handsome and deadly man who can’t be wholly human can he? I mean he is super-fast and so beautiful to look at but a total beast of personality.
Quill is trying to find the humans when she finds her sister and we find out more secrets…yikes poor Quill!! Staying true to the fairy tale she is given a choice to save her sister or herself so she saves her sister and is sent to the Beast’s house to live.
Nero is a special man who is fascinated with Quill. We soon find out WHY he needs her in his life and decides to be not to truthful to our girl. When they strike a bargain, she finds her sister and a lot more information than she ever knew she needed.
I loved the story and Quill and Nero and really hope to read more because I want to know about those werewolves and her sister Rose.
It took me a bit to get into this story, probably because the way it started, it seemed like it was a continuation from a previous book. But once I began to understand who some of the key players were, I was able to really let go and just enjoy the story and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.
I realize this is supposed to be loosely based on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale, but I really didn't get that much of a vibe from this story, probably because there really wasn't anything beastly about Nero, other than the fact that he's a vampire. He doesn't do anything that would warrant that label assigned to him. And the only information about Quill is how much of a badass she is.
I was surprised to learn about who was behind all of the events that led up to this book, and even how far back the plan was implemented, but I would have liked to have learned more about the plan that was enacted, instead of the summary we get at the end of the book when the evil plan was revealed. And while I liked both Quill's and Nero's actions after the big reveal, nothing more was mentioned regarding the third member who was present when Quill learned the truth. Not to mention what happened to Quill's friends from the beginning of the book. I only hope that the next book in the series will answer those questions.
So this story takes place in a time where the world has been through a type of "purge" and the people who weren't deemed "pure" were killed. So pretty much, everyone except the governing body and kids were killed and they were starting from scratch with a new way to live. All of the kids went through a training program and then went to specific jobs, but a girl named Quill joined the rebellion instead. She goes on a mission for the rebellion and runs into her sister in the city. She tries to get her sister out but she gets caught so she trades herself for her sister. This is where she ends up meeting Nero, the vampire, and learns that it wasn't a "purge" but vampires had come and the rebellion was fighting a useless fight. She isn't a quitter, so her and Nero but heads a lot but they do have chemistry. I enjoyed the book and read it in one sitting. The reason I took a star away is because I don't like the rebellion's outcome, which is really just my personal preference. I would like to read more about her sister and the story there, so I hope that is in another book.
I chose to Read and Review this book from The Authors Explosion Eventl!
First of all This was my first book by Kyleigh and i was not Disapointed !!
At first i wasn't too sure because the book started a little slow and i didnt really know What was really going on (wich was a Good thing for me) For me a Good book needs to pull you into the story and make you believe that you are in This FanTastic world.Great Job. I felt a real connection to Quill has she is to be a strong Women in a upside world. I was able to feel for her has she discovers thatryingt the world that she thought she knew was nothing that she could of even imagined in her wildest dreams.
Desecrated Beauty is the kind of story that fairy tales were based off of. A vivid imagining of what Beauty and the Beast would be like in today's world. Children grow up to be what their parents teach them to be, or do they? Quill was raised to be something similar to what she is, but not all lessons learned stay rooted. Nero in that respect is nothing like what his father wants him to be either. Maybe, just maybe, Quill and Nero are what need to be in order to be with the other. Guess you will need to read to be the judge of that! One fantastically erotic scene that should be savored! Enjoy!
Dystopias are normally not my genre. But this one sucked me in right from the start! The heroine is kick-ass but has a big heart, takes what she wants and does what needs to be done and still lays down her life for the people she really cares about. Her world is intriguing, the contrast between city people and outcasts big but at the same time both parties have their problems and weaknesses, nothing ist simply good or totally bad, I really liked that. And the hero is absolutely devilicious - with all the issues an alpha has but inside a gentleman to fall for. This story made me pre-order the next book in line directly!
Five stars because this book was simply a great take on vampires and other supernatural beings. Quill/Isabelle escapes her violent upbringing to go against her powerful father and join the resistance. During a rescue mission she sees her sister that she left behind and in her attempt to save her ends up trading her life for her sisters. Her captor turns out to be her mate and although she resists him at first, she eventually gives in. A lot happens in between but no cliffhanger thank goodness. The love scenes were very good and descriptive. Quill is strong and I love strong female characters. Overall a very good book and highly recommended.
This book is definitely as it states in the description, a twisted fairytale and I loved reading this! Quill is a strong and independent female who doesn't blindly follow orders and isn't afraid to go after what she believes in. Nero is a sexy as sin and extremely powerful vampire and he doesn't take no for an answer. They are both extremely set in their ways, which makes for some seriously interesting interactions between the two to say the least. This was the first book I've read by this author and I look forward to more from her in the future. I highly recommend reading this book to anyone.
What a wicked story! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was very well written and it flowed very smoothly. Kyleigh writes such strong characters, Quill is an incredibly strong woman, physically, broken but pieced back together and then there is Nero..lordy.. A cool twist on the supernatural, I like the interaction between humans and creatures, way cool. There are a couple of very hot moments and some violence but it all helps to tell an awesome tale. This is the first book of Kyleighs that I have read and it will not be the last.. Highly recommended!
Who doesn't like little fairy tail in their life? What about hot twisted fairy tale? Even better!
Hot re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. Who would not like that?
Quill is not your average beauty. Nero is not your average beast. Or did i mixed them? hmmm There is only one way to find out: go read.
This book is amazing and fresh. Full of twists and steamy moments.
I'm not much for dystopian books but i loved Desecrated Beauty and i would love to read more about main or supporting characters. (hint to author: Rose)
Good from the Beginning This was definitely a twist on a fairy tale. The Beast being a Vampire named Nero and the Beauty a strong willed woman named Quill. There lives have turns and twists like a Vampire story should have. It was a good read and very well written. It would make a heck of a movie if you ask me. The story is by all means dark and twisted. The characters are fun to read about and follow. The ending is quite delicious to Nero. I recommend this book to those who love a good Vampire story as well as a dark fairy tale read.
A twisted remake of Beauty and the Beast….bingo! Blend that with vampires and werewolves and other paranormal delights and I am happily glued to the pages. A human woman with a domineering abusive father, paired with the son of a controlling, ancient vampire. It is no surprise to me that time flew by so that I could read to its conclusion! This author wasted no time setting these characters into motion and this action packed tale delivers! Thoroughly was a pleasure to read this and I highly recommend it! This voluntary review is based against a kindle unlimited copy.
Wow loved this book. Hot vampire. Kick ass heroine. And a good plot. This is a great start to a new series. Lots of room for more world building. Our heroine doesn't have a problem killing when she has to, and our hero has definitely done his fair share of killing too, after all he is a vampire! There are no apologies or self hatred for what he is. I hope it doesn't take long for the next book to come out.
Great enticing, paranomal with twists and turns read, it ropes you from the first chapter you got to love a bad ass female Quill, and Nero the aphla vampire who wants the powers of others but not to rule. The interaction between them is super sexy. This is my first book of Kyleigh Castronaro and I can say it won't be my last.
I enjoyed this paranormal book. This was a first time read of this author. I enjoyed the dark elements and suspense throughout the book. There was implied romance by actions and decisiins made by rhe main characters. I especially liked the strong, independent female character who chose her future, not by coersion, but by insisting on knowing all the facts.
It's a great book, not a boring moment or a too long parts. I love that the h knows for a fact that shes beautiful yet shes not vain. Or how special she thinks she is. Some parts, especially the early chapters got a bit confusing cause the H Pov is inserted between the h pov. The ending is however very sudden, i was expecting a sequel but i think the author makes none.
Okay I have to say I started this book And the first chapter bored me that I actually couldn't finish it and started to read other books. but decided I had to finish. I am glad i did. the story and characters picked up and I am glad i finished this story
this was a first book of yours i read and i loved it! its about a young woman who has been trained to kill. she meets a guy who she finds out is a vampire. now she must make a choice to save someone she loves. what will this choice cost her? read to find out. thanks!
