Read this in preparation for a trip this fall, following the trail. A good merging of history and how to explore it.

After reading Undaunted Courage, it's good to have a modern companion to the route.

An excellent travel guide to the Lewis and Clark route. We just finished an epic adventure of eleven weeks over three years tracing the route of Lewis and Clark. Jeeping the Lolo Motorway was the final segment to end such an educational and inspirational experience. This guide book was very comprehensive in following the trail today, while enhancing the adventure with historical data from the journals. I will never forget standing at the source of the Missouri River on Lemhi Pass. Heartfelt thanks to the author!! Fourth Edition.

If you want to travel any of the Lewis and Clark adventurous trail I would recommend this book as a very good resource. Even though a few things are dated the path and suggestions of what to see and where to stay really assist in the venture.

A great resource for travelers, but also a thoroughly interesting read for anyone interested in history. This guide presents quotes from the Corps of Discovery, historical notes, and context of the journey in addition to the maps, current travel information and activities to do at each site.

Don’t be put off by it’s publication date (2007 is the Fourth Edition). It’s an immensely valuable resource if you are going to follow the Lewis & Clark trail as I did. Julie Fanselow has written a engaging companion reader to help you plan your trip and to take on your journey.

Very travel-guide oriented, but lots of interesting history, too.
If you skim the now out-dated 21st century travel info, you can get a nice overview of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
I enjoyed this book. And I'm planning to trace part of their route this summer on the Upper Missouri River!

The Lewis and Clark journals leap to the present in these pages. Great resource for following in their mockersons.
