Marshall's Family is the story of Richard Marshall (just Marshall to his friends) who flies a plane for EASAMCo Aviation in Africa.

Marshall is a reserved, unassuming man who wants nothing more than an quiet life, but this isn't always possible when you are married to a woman like Fiona. Social standing and other people's opinions are high on Fiona's list of priorities with Marshall and daughter Kate coming lower down on that list. Fiona has her own way of doing things so that others will look up

It's not often I come across a book from a new author, which I thoroughly enjoy, but this one really did tick all the boxes for me. The pace is quite fast, but very easy to follow. The descriptive nature of the book makes some of the scenes even more horrendous, but it certainly kept me hooked until I swiped to the last page.

This is Anson Welsh's debut novel, and I am very much looking forward to his next one. I have been recommending this book to all my friends, and even liken it to Half of a Y

This book grew on me. I began it expecting a so-so thriller, and it did become vaguely predictable early on. However I actually got more interested in the story, as it developed the tension. Character development was good.I can imagine this as one of those rather efficient thud and blunder films, quite satisfying to watch - not too sure who it would star...someone youngish, wrapped up in their work, in a hollow marriage, swept into overwhelming events. Marin Freeman perhaps. As someone moderatel ...more

This is a remarkably accomplished debut novel from a writer who clearly knows what it takes to write an absorbing and realistic thriller. It’s the story of Richard Marshall, always known just as Marshall, who is a conscientious but fairly ordinary man working as a pilot in an unnamed country in Africa. When a coup brings danger and chaos in its wake he is called upon to act in ways he would never have thought he would be capable of. As the tagline says “Sometimes an ordinary man must do extraord ...more

Sometimes the best dishes are not those made with the most ingredients and elaborate techniques, but simple in concept and exquisitely executed. So it is with this book - an unashamed action adventure with enough thrills to satisfy any fan of Jack Reacher or Indiana Jones, though the protagonist, Richard Marshall is less naturally heroic than either of those two – and all the more human for it.

Working as a pilot in an unnamed African country he is basically content with his lot, despite a lovel

Anson Welsh was born and raised in the Rhondda Fach, a narrow coal mining valley in South Wales. At the age of ten, after reading ‘Biggles and the Cruise of the Condor,’ he decided that he was going to be pilot and never once changed his mind.

He started flying when he was nineteen and worked as a full-time pilot from the age of twenty-one. He regards his flying career as modest, but it has include
