The writing is as excellent as ever. I somehow didn't 'bond' with this work as much as the other stories I've read - but nevertheless, this is worth reading - and it makes you think.

I used not to love short stories but this one is intense and perfectly balanced. With just a few strokes and well-chosen details, this woman and her relationships with others come to life, and I could see the whole trajectory that led her to this day at her kitchen sink.

It's dark and wistful. One of her best short stories so far.
