So I did something a little weird when I started this book: I read the companion book Never Been Kissed, which is the same story but told first person POV from Sera's perspective, simultaneously. That means I would read to a natural break in the narrative, and then read the corresponding chapters/sections in Never Been Kissed. I've never been a fan of first person POV from only one perspective, and this solved it. The dialogue between Sera and Hunter is identical in both books, but internal thoughts (and impressions of situations) and their interactions with other characters are different. In fact, I think I liked Hunter's book a little more because Sera's main problem is that she suffers from a crisis of self-confidence; Hunter's issues are much more complicated.
I love "geek" romances, and that is why I picked up this book. The other is that I've seen a young adult diabetic on a path of self-destruction and was curious to see how it was handled in this fictional account. And it was handled with gravity, anger, concern, some despair, and knowledge of long-term consequences. Both Sera and Hunter have to handle their issues without traditional familial support networks.
Sera is a trip and unapologetic in her geekdom. I was a fan of how she was such a complete fan of Harry Potter, Batman, Gandalf and sci-fi films/TV - oh, and Ponyboy Curtis. Luckily, Kars had her geeking out on well-known icons. If she had ventured into more obscure graphic novels, Japanese anime or Dungeons & Dragons, I would have been lost in the references. And the references were important; they helped frame Sera as a person and her philosophies on life. I especially liked her discussion with Matty about the relative merits of Batman and Superman.
Hunter is much more of a mess. His diabetes is out of control. He hasn't totally accepted his role as parent. He has tremendous guilt. And his family and sort-of girlfriend are just plain nasty pieces of humanity. His saving grace is Sera, and he is grabbing on with both hands.
The "I'm not good enough for you" trope, one of which I am not especially fond, reared its ugly head in these books. In a big way. However, both Sera and Hunter like the glimpses of happiness they've been experiencing, and decide to fight for more. Sera's sass and natural optimism carry the day, too.
Hunter: "I don't want a slice of happiness. I think I deserve the whole f*#^ing cake." [Quite the statement coming from a diabetic].
Sera's response: "If you deserve the cake, then I deserve a Reese's peanut butter cup one, with chunks of Reese's pieces on top of it."
There was unpredictability in this novel, and some of the secondary characters are well-scripted. I didn't really know where Hunter and Sera were headed, so I kept turning the pages. Was it a perfect novel? No. Were these two characters perfect? Absolutely not. And I'm glad they weren't. Hunter became a heart-breaking romantic out of his deficit of relationships. It was surprising and touching to see. He also was a moody bum part of the time. He was the epitome of the brooding hunk who has come to some surprising revelations in his life.
I liked reading these companion novels simultaneously, and I would do it again.

OMG OMG OMG. How happened that this book got out and I didn't know it?!?!?!
I mean, NBK by Hunter's POV? This is Christmas come early for me.

I wanted to keep the official ‘review’ I wrote before starting just to show you how excited I was about this book.
It was not what I expected and not in a positive way. The first third of the book was basically just about Hunter, and no interactions almost with Sera. And I would have been okay with it if the rest was spectacular. But it wasn’t, the most gigantic flaw for me was the monotone angry/sad tone of the narration, and Hunter’s resentment towards Matty. His repeated thoughts of not wanting the kid surprised and angered me. It was real, I get it, and I first appreciated the realism, but it got old fast.
Hunter’s ex being more present in the story than Sera also grated on my nerves, and overall being in Hunter’s mind was not an interesting perspective. It made me dislike him rather than fall in love with him all over again.
So yeah, big disappointment here.

After having read Never Been Kissed, I thought I would be ready for everything in this book - was I wrong!! Some of the same scenes from NBK, but enough of a change where it felt different.
Hunter has had a rough time of it. A mother who is more concerned with appearances; a twin sister who passed away young and left him with a big responsibility; a diagnosis that would change his life.
Once Hunter found out he had diabetes, it changed everything. He couldn't play sports anymore because it affected his game. College was out of the question, and he started working. He got mixed up with the wrong crowd. He had only found one woman who was willing to put up with him and his disease. When his twin sister passed away, he took on the extra responsibility of her one-year-old son. With no support from his mother, he went through life only doing what he had to. Until he saw her.
From the moment he saw Sera, with her nose stuck in a book and not even a side-ways glance at him, he wanted to know more. Her shirts made him chuckle, and made him start searching the internet to find out what she was interested in. When he finally talked to her, he didn't understand half of what she said, but paid close attention to every word out of her mouth. And, the most amazing part? She seemed to love his nephew Matty.
Follow Hunter and Sera's journey through Hunter's eyes...find out why he feels like he's never been loved...find out if he will finally find the one he could love, and who could love him.

FOUR LOVING STARS!!!
It's really hard to get me to absolutely fall head over heels in love with a book in a male's POV. The kind of POV that makes me forget I'm working on ovaries. Only two authors gave me that feel, and this book did not add to it.
Never Been Loved is basically the same as Never Been Kissed only, it's from Hunter's view. I did get to see and understand a lot of the reasons behind why he acted how he did in NBK. However along the read, he started to kind of turned from that mysterious asshole that I loved decoding to borderline whiny. And I'm gonna be bias and say the image, all tats and piercing, the whole dad thing and his daily demon he has to battle? I still love the stupid sexy ass jerk.
He was so observant of everything that was Sera. And even though in reality to me that is just too good to be true. I can dream. :P

I love Hunter. Faults and all. :)
This was one of my most awaited books since I read Never Been Kissed (the first one). The first book left a lot of questions and I really wanted to know what goes on in that beautiful yet tortured head of Hunter's.
Soooo wish granted!
You can say I'm a bit biased because I already love him in NBK. I don't care. It is what it is. :)
Alright.. so the story is pretty much the same with NBK, only in his POV, plus it's a little longer that NBK.
For those who haven't read NBK, just a quick description:
HUNTER is a diabetic with a son named Matty who's also diabetic. :< I know, I know.. sucks. They both are just trying to get by one day at a time. Even though both of them feel so tired (sick) most of the time, Hunter needs to take care of the two of them. I imagine it's so hard to take care of another person when you can't even take care of yourself very well. He's in a bad place too, financially so he's just making do of basic stuff. Anyway, long story short... Hunter needs a hero.
Or a heroine.
In the form of Sera.
You know what's funny? I didn't see this one coming. I didn't see that SERA (our heroine) could really be a heroine in Hunter's eyes.
Okay so why is she a heroine in his eyes?
✓She single handedly brought him so a hospital... with a kid in tow.
✓She knows Diabetes like the back of her hand.
✓She knows how to handle Hunter's mood swing.
✓She might think that Hunter's outside package is DA BOMB, but she firmly believes that it's what's on the inside that matters. Oh and his effed up genetics doesn't matter too! ;)
✓She doesn't see having Diabetes like it's the end of the world.
✓She actually likes putting other people first before herself.
✓She doesn't treat Matty like it's a hardship when he's around/
✓She reads mother effin Harry Potter to kids for goodness sake!
✓She gives great life lessons... and kisses! ;*
Yeah, she's just perfect in his eyes.
These two go from being complete strangers to completing each other's lives. Yes, they go through bumps here and there since relationships naturally aren't easy. I think readers should be patient and understanding with Hunter. He's not your typically perfect hero. In fact, this books shows just how imperfect he is. Read this and see how Hunter finds out that needing help is nothing to be ashamed of especially when you're doing everything you can already. You'll also see just how sweet his mind works, albeit he's a little preoccupied sometimes. Ha! Yeah, this book is kind of hot too. ;)

Okay saying i am in love with these series isn't even close to what i feel. i think hunter and sera has the most beautiful love story and you know why ? because its fraking realistic !!! We are talking about a normal girl and a normal guy thinks like that happen every day (kinda but you get my point). A lot of questions i had are answered in this book. I finished reading it in no time even though i am sick and reading was making me have a headache, i couldn't stop myself from finishing the book, its amazing and beautiful and the writers writing skills are just beautiful and each time i read this book or the first one i have a strong urge to watch harry potter for the 100000000000000000000th time idk what else to say i just freaking love it

Of course I absolutely loved this book! It couldn't be otherwise considering how much I loved Never Been Kissed! Never Been Loved is basically Never Been Kissed from Hunter's POV. I loved it how the scenes and the dialogue were the same when it came to Hunt and Sera. There were just a couple of scenes shortened of skipped but I'm not 100% sure of that because It's possible that I don't remember Never Been Kissed word by word so yeah. Anyways 99% of the together scenes were the same and I loved it. Don't get me wrong, those were the same but from Hunt's perspective. I already loved Hunt from Never Been Kissed, but Never Been Loved lets us have a peek into his mind and that made me love him even more if that's possible.
Yep, Hunter was really damaged before Sera came and lighten up his world. He wasn't living, he was surviving in a superficial way. He blamed himself for his sister's death, he didn't know if he could be a good father for his nephew, he was slowly letting his diabetes win him over. He was constantly fighting with his demons, but when Sera came into his life, he began to change, he began to realize that things could be different. Yes, he might come up as a real as*hole at times, but I get him. No, I'm not trying to find him excuses, I'm just saying that in a way I can begin to understand him. A shitty life and an even shittier disease can do things to you. I loved that we get to see him with all of his struggles and demons and with all what makes him Hunt. Also adored to see how he falls for Sera and how he sees her, he worships her and yeah he is the perfect match for her. Even if we already knew this from Never Been Kissed we now got to see him at 360' view.
I think Hunter is one of my favorite fictional male heroes of all times. I mean beside the fact that he's hot, sexy, alpha, he has piercing, tats, he draws, he is responsible, he loves his nephew and he loves, worships and adores Sera, I really loved he fact that he is indeed a damaged hero. The majority of the damaged heroes in fiction are damaged either on a mental, soul scale or on body scars scale if you know what I mean. Well Hunt is soul damaged and he also fights with a disease, with diabetes, which is more common than you think. This makes him more real. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some twisted person, I'm just saying that heroes or heroines that aren't perfect by any means , just make things more believable, cause people are not perfect. We all have some demons and if you'll show me a perfect person with no demons I'll say: Bulls*it because perfect is the real fiction.
Anyways I'm saying it again: I love Hunt so so much and I'm happy that we got his POV. I'm glad that I actually read this because I'm usually not interested in POV retellings.

I loved it! LOVED IT!
I loved nerdy Sera, I loved moody Hunter and I adored little Matty very much. He was so amazing kid.
This book was very special to me, because:
- it was something different, definitely not the same as every second story,
- this story was about serious illness, I know that diabetes in real life is usually totally different, but I liked this idea very much and I appreciated that there was something new
- the heroine was a nerdy virgin, but she was so strong and I loved that part when she was brave when Matty got sick and that she was shy and so bossy at the same time; she loved Harry Potter and she handled moody Hunter so well
- I love male's POV
I know people say it's totally same story as the first book. But I've read it so long time ago, I don't mind the very same story. Exactly opposite. It was good to see what was going on in Hunter's mind.

I do love when an author rewrites an entire book in the male POV. Never Been Loved is Hunter's POV from Never Been Kissed. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I think there were parts that felt like Hunter was just repeating himself.

Loved his POV, but felt this story could have been better had it had more variation from Never Been Kissed. This story was almost word for word the same (from am alternative POV) but it skipped the events I really wanted to cover.

My friend and I tried something new and read this book with Never Been Kissed, which is the same book but in Sera's POV. I did prefer Hunter's POV because I loved Matty. I thought that with Hunter having diabetes the author would show realistic ups and downs, but I feel like Hunter had whiplash with his diabetes and maybe what he faces is really common, but I know people with diabetes and it wasn't that way for them. I feel like he used his diabetes as a crutch and even at the end of the book I don't feel like he's dealt with having it. I also didn't like how he treated his nephew...his point of view and how much he hates being saddled with him really hurt my chance of loving his character. This is a part of your sister you loved and he treated him more like a burden then a blessing most of the time. Also, I felt like Kyla was only in the book to add excess drama and not really a big part of the book. I also wish we would have been able to see his relationship with Eddie. It was the same problem in the first book with the secondary characters only in it to create drama and not be fully dimensional characters.

Mixed feelings about this one. I didn't love it, didn't hate it, but it was just... okay.
I haven't read the book from Sera's POV, but not sure if I will. Hunter was okay, I felt for him and his nephew in certain spots, however, his inner dialogue just became repetitive after awhile. I feel like this story could have also been about 20 pages shorter- it seemed to drag after awhile. I really wish this story had alternated between his POV and Sera's, that would have made it a bit more interesting.

I, honestly, am mad at myself for taking so long to read it! I enjoyed every chapter. I hate that he saw himself as less than deserving of good things in his life :(

This would have been so much better if it was in the first book. We would have seen both of their insecurities, Hunter wouldn't have seemed perfect, there would have been less repetitions...

I loved Hunters POV and I feel like I understand so much more now. This was the perfect companion to the first book in series.

I really liked Hunter's POV. A lot of pain is involved, guilt and emotional void. I wouldn't say that this was better than 'Never Been Kissed' because it wasn't (for me at least) but I got see through his eyes.
Some of the things that I didn't like, is that he was repeating himself a lot. For example he was thinking over and over again, he wasn't enough for her. And that is what a lot of NA writers tend to do. Both main characters (especially males) are not good enough for each other.
Give me a break.
Another thing that bothered me, was that Hunter was comparing his ex with Sera. He was kind of suspicious, that Sera wasn't what she looked like, honest, caring etc. I get it, but he was thinking this way for her, even close to the end of the book.
You know her months, you want her months, why do you think so ill of her?
Trust issues, trust issues, trust issues.
Also, it was little annoying that he was talking to himself so much and he was getting back answers.
He was having conversations with his dick as well.
The story was more romantic from Sera's POV.
Now the good stuff!
He was calling his penis 'Junior'! Thing that was equally creepy and funny.
He was thinking of his dead sister, asking for help, asking for strength, asking for patients and courage to continue what he was doing daily. This difficult, empty, disappointing life. He was all the time freaking tired. So tired. He wasn't the best dad, he couldn't be, because he couldn't fully understand and put up with this role. What his life had become?
Tired. Always tired.
Also, many people will not agree with me, but I was glad to see the relationship he had with Aly. Sometimes it made angry (at some points, I was getting pissed off), but I understood. He was listening these people saying nobody would have him, like he was, sick. So Aly was the only one who would consider him. But fuck her! Her and his mother (bitch to the bone) for saying shit like that.
What he had with Aly was cheap and shallow. He was lonely. Very lonely.
And then, Sera happened.
From his POV I actually realized how difficult was for him to read her some times and how hard was to wait for so long. Through his POV I wanted to scream at her, go the fuck to him!
Finally, it was a good read, but I think I liked better the story from Sera's POV. It would be also better, if the author didn't jump some scenes. Just saying... I'll read it again, though I think, I liked it. Really liked it but I just loved 'Never Been Kissed'!

THIS IS NOT THE SAME BOOK ALL OVER AGAIN.
It's an insight into Hunter's reality that completes the story we already know.
Let's start with the good stuff:

some quotes are the right kind of cheasy but all in all I was quite disappointed by this book.
There's a lot internal dialog. A LOT.
Sometimes WAY TOO MUCH and it gets SO FRUSTRATING and annoying.
Hunter has a very low self esteem.
And I get it.
He struggles everyday with his health and with Matty's. He wants a good life for the little man but doing it all alone is hard, really hard.
I just wanted to read about it without the urge to skip the same thoughts repeated over and over again.
This book it's a journey into Hunter's head and his head is not a pleasant place to be in while he tries to make everything work out.
He doesn't want to be a burden on Sera's shoulders but he wants her so badly in his life that he slowly lets her in, forced by circumstances and a deep need for someone to really care about him, about Matty.
Reading the story in Hunter's point of view made me understand more about him and his actions but this book wasn't as good as Never been kissed, not even close.
Ps: I loved the little man to bits...sooo cute*_*

My thoughts:
This book was just ok. It explained Hunter's diabetes more, which was helpful to explain his mood swings. But overall it could have been better. Sera never said anything about self esteem issues but once in a while she moved away when he tried to touch her and he immediately knew she had body issues. I don't get how he was such an amazing guesser. There were still parts that felt like dialogue was missing. It felt like the author jumped in mid sentence. Or connected plots and ideas to things that weren't there. It was a little confusing.
I thought there would be flashbacks to Hunter's sister Jules. He spoke to her like she was his conscience but there relationship was never shown. That would have been a good character development for Hunter.
The writing style was still just ok. It didn't seem like a growth from book one. And it was basically just a repeat of every event from book one. It was literally just repeats of all the dialogue.

If you loved Never Been Kissed you will love Never Been Loved just as much this is told in Hunters POV get the story from the man himself.
I loved this! While reading Never Been Kissed I was always wondering what Hunter was thinking about his feeling early on with Sera and this gave me everything I wanted. If I thought I loved Hunter in Never Been Kissed I completely fell for him even more in this. You got to really see what he thought and how he felt and just like Sera he was dealing with so much pain but having him voice what was in his head and even his own doubts about the relationship with Sera was perfect. Now I gotta hurry up and read Never Been Nerdy and I can't wait to see what else this author puts out.

This is the same story as the first book just in Hunters POV... some little things are different and of course we see how Hunter deals with things and understand him a bit more.... However, I wouldn't try to read this one without reading the other one first. I guess you could, but it leaves a lot of stuff out, bigger detail.
It breaks my heart how Hunter see's Matty, Matty loves him so much and Hunter is just floating by, you can tell he loves him sure, but he doesn't say it... he refers to him as "the kid" or "Jules' kid", I wish he'd get better with that... With Sera there, hopefully he will if we get anymore stories about them.
I also liked how it ended, I'm glad they ended up together, very cute.

Amazing!!!!
This book was so fraking amazing!! I loved it more than the first one. In the first one there were times when I wanted to punch Hunter, but now seeing this from his side all I want to do is give him a hug and tell him I love him. This was so amazing to read it from his POV. Matty is a million kinds of amazing.
I also cried, I laughed so much when I read Hunters internal monologue after she told off his mom. I had to stop reading and bust a gut laughing. I wish I could give this book along won the others 10 stars.
I know it's totally selfish of me but I want more too. I want more in their life. I want her to have his baby them to get married. I really truly love this family and I want so much more.

SWOOOOON
I couldn't put this book down AT ALL. I loved being inside Hunter's head and finally understanding his behavior because it was out of wack sometimes in the original.
Kars should write with both perspectives in the same book! shes so great at it and if it'll make them longer reads - all the better!
My fav author that does both perspectives is with the black dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward. Except hers also include vamp and otherworldy drama. the romance is just so intense when reading it from both sides.
keep them coming Kars!!

Very repetitive and a by stale...
It was fine...I liked some parts of Hunters perspective but this felt really long. It's good to hear what is going on in his head but there are so many internal monologues and they are so rambly that it just drags. Plus there were too many repetitive scenes that played out exactly the same. It was no Midnight Sun: one of my favorite guy perspectives because there were so many new takes on the scenes and completely new scenes. It was good but stale.

Never Been Loved
I loved getting Hunter's POV from Never Been Kissed. It was awesome getting more of Matty, he is great kid. This book really does answer all the questions you have from NBK. However there was some things that I picked up on that didn't quite match up with the other book. It wasn't enough to take away from the story but it was enough for me to notice. Totally worth reading!

I normally try not to read the same book from different point of views (I tend to get bored because I know what is going to happen) but I decided to give this one a try.
I know Hunter’s life hasn’t been easy what with his diabetes and guilt. The book help me understand him better and gave an insight on some scenes from book 1 where I was wondering why he was behaving that way with Sera or Matty.
I can still say that I liked Never been Kissed better than this one. But I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book as I loved Never Been Kissed and it was interesting seeing things from Hunter's perspective.
