Growing up in North West England and in Germany, Anna wrote plays about talking animals, and stories about naughty children, and drew on every available surface. After school, she did an Art Foundation course, then a degree in German Literature & Philosophy at Oxford University. I liked the story. It seemed relatable. Hungry little piglet stealing other animals food.

I don't like how the book has a top (for the child) and a bottom portion (for the adult) to read. It's easy to ignore the top as you turn pages and the language isn't different. So it seems like an unnecessary distraction.

Curly the small pig was hungry so he went to the hens barn and ate all the hens breakfast. Mrs Boot, the farm keeper sees Curly in the hens pen. She shouts at him asking what he is doing in their pen. Curly, who is guilty, hurries back to his own pen but unfortunately gets stuck! He cannot fit through the gap because he is too big from eating all the hen’s breakfast. Mrs Boot see’s Curly the pig struggling to get out and tries to help him. She cannot get him out so she is given help from her children. They push and push and eventually get him out. At the end of the story, Mrs Boots agrees that from tomorrow Curly will have lots of breakfast to that he will never be hungry again!

Pig gets stuck is a fantastic short story from the farmyard tales collection. It is aimed for key stage 1, ages 5-7. It is a simple story which follows the journey of one hungry pig. I like the fact that it is a classic story of doing something you shouldn’t and being caught out in a ridiculous and humorous way, typical children behaviour. It is an exciting story which does have some suspense whether Curly will get out or not, however I do wish this suspense part of the story would have been a little longer. I think these farmyard tales are brilliant for carpet time, especially for younger years.
