Premise/plot: Bow-Wow starrs in several board books. This board book doubles as a concept book teaching opposites. But it is also a very simple--yet funny--story.

You don't have to use a lot of words to tell a good story--if you let the illustrations do the talking for you. In this one, Bow-Wow chases a cat.

My thoughts: I liked this one. I did. I am not sure that it is my favorite Bow-Wow story but it's nice.

I really love the bright and bold illustrations.

Newgarden is not really telling this story since it in a picture book in an almost literal sense. The person reading the book ends up crafting a narrative out of the single word on each page and the accompanying pictures. That being said, the fourteen-month-old LOVES this book because it is a slightly different story each time, and those pictures are boldly rendered images of an adorable dog. She lights up and claps every time we reach the last page and we read "Happy" together!

Everyone's favorite dog, Bow-Wow, is back!

This time, our furry friend learns about opposites while chasing a cat. We get the usual up and down, and even over and under as the cat escapes over the fence, and Bow-Wow is forced to go under it.

At the end, a wet, bedraggled Bow-Wow enters the house feeling sad, but there's a surprise waiting for him that will definitely have his frown turning into a smile!

This is another board book that will delight toddlers with its funny illustrations, and will help parents with the introduction of simple opposites and new vocabulary words.

We had this book from the library for a long time (and we have the fines to show it) when my daughter was 20 months. She loved reading it to herself in the car seat once she had it memorized, and I think she actually learned a bit about opposites. It's very simple and a good early book. I love how you only see the cats' tails. That led to some fun discussion and imagination about the rest of the cat.
