Both volumes were a bit of a slog for me. Many chapters used too much "acadamese" for my taste, but some were engaging and interesting even to this layman. Real historians with an interest in this period may glean more than I.
Of this volume, the most salient point I came away with, is that the Founding Fathers greatest gift to the young United States was the separation of church and state. It saved us the bloody wars over which religion got it right that plagued Europe for a few hundred years.
I hope we continue on that way, but currently I have some doubts...

Great resource for European History or European Literature scholars. Great breadth of knowledge and approachable language. Highly recommend.
