Evan Rocco has been a hero to Paige Lawson for as long as she could remember. So when she runs into him in a bar after a major professional coup, she’s feeling celebratory and reckless. But it can’t go anywhere, because after all, he’s Evan freaking Rocco. But when her gaming company gets into trouble, there’s only one man she can turn to.

He’d honestly thought there was more between them besides just sex—a connection he’d never felt before. When PSL, his favorite software game company is in trouble, he jumps at the chance to help them solve the mystery behind The Crimson Lady and get his mind off the woman of his dreams.

When he realizes who the CEO of PSL actually is, he has to get over his own issues or else he’ll put the one woman in danger he never wanted to hurt.

This book can be read as a standalone but seriously you wanna go read the previous book and the rest of the books to be released as these books are brilliant.

Ok where do I start? Shall I tell you about the sexy alpha men in this series that will do anything for the people they love and the people they need to protect.

This is Evans story. He's a computer geek. What he can do with a computer and his fingers is downright sexy ( can't believe I even thought that but heck it's true:) )

Paige is a tough successful businesswoman. She's had a crush on him for years. When she meets him in a bar she knows she can't refuse to be with him for one night and let all her dreams come through.
However she needs Evan to help her out. When she comes to face with him again she's a mess. The effect he has on her is shocking but good. (Imagine crushing on someone for years. Then you need to have a serious convo with him- yep impossible)

With the mystery of who is out to destroy Paige we get a really interesting and hot storyline. I love that we get to read about the characters that we met in book one.

Looking forward to reading book three Click.

This is the second book in The Pierce Security Series. Ms. Conley did a wonderful job with this book also. She gave us a very strong story line filled with intrigue, drama, sex and suspense. The characters are very well developed, strong and very easy to relate to. This story is written so that it is very easy to relate with even though it involves computer genius Evan Rocco and alot of other computer-related scenes and dialog. But the story is so well-written that us individuals that are a bit "techno-challenged" are not left behind. The h in the story is strong-willed and very easy to connect with. She is a hard-working business woman who is fighting to keep her business afloat, while someone else is trying their hardest to see she fails. Which is her reason for hiring the infamous Evan Rocco, knowing that he is the only one that can get to the bottom of this and catch the individual who it trying to destroy everything that she has worked to build. This story had me trying to figure out who was behind all the sabotage that was going on, and just when I thought I had it figured out, I would be proved wrong. There was definitely some steamy sex scenes throughout the book that added just the right amount of spice to the story. Overall it was a well written story that was easy to follow and with enough heat and suspense to really keep us guessing and with characters that we could relate to. Great job Ms. Conley, I am looking forward to reading more from the series and finding out what she has in story for the rest of the crew from Pierce Security!

What can i say...I am just lovin these Pierce Security guys! Whats nice about this series, is the fact that they can be read as a stand alone....I myself read them all out of order...because...well...thats just the way it happened....
This is the story of Evan...the computer geek extraordinaire... He met up with a gal in a bar one night and instantly fell for her....little did he know, she knew who he was and wanted to be with him as badly as he did her. When Evan woke in the morning, instead of finding a warm body, he found a cold pillow...
Six months later a job comes into the securities company, a job he was requested for...a gaming company had issues that only he could handle...and low and behold...who is the owner of this company...it's Paige his one nighter that he never got over.
I enjoyed this book very much and would highly recommend it if you like hot geeks and mystery!

I completely enjoyed this book. When Paige has a one night stand with her fantasy man, she returns to real life only leaving him with a fake name and wonderful memories. When her company gets into trouble, the only person that can help is Evan, but he will find out who she really is. As Evan investigates the threat to Paige, he realizes that he is interested in more than finding the problem in her company, he wants Paige. Uncertain as to why someone would do this to Paige, Evan gets close to the source of the problem, but is he too close? Paige has ignored the danger to herself because she doesn't want Evan to feel obligated, will she be able to accept his help before it's too late?

Anne Conley did it again! A great read about real life events. Most romance books are the same thing over and over – the billionaire and his employee, “fifty shades of grey”, same plot but different names. Anne’s books are refreshing to read because they are different from every other romance book you pick up to read. She captures real life events, tragedies and emotions and brings them to the reader’s awareness.

If you are looking for a great read that is not like all the rest of the books, then you definitely want to read this book (or any book) from Anne Conley!

Paige is the owner of a gaming company who is being cyber attacked by a sophisticated and unknown threat and even with all her skills she has been unable to find out who is behind it and why. Needing assistance, she hires Pierce Securities to investigate which brings Evan, the man spent one night with, back into her life.

Evan has earned quite the reputation for his IT skills both good and bad. When his new assignment brings Paige, the woman he spent one night with and hasn’t been able to forget, back into his life things are about to get interesting for both of them.

Intrigue, twists and heat combine into a compelling storyline as Paige and Evan get their second chance. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and thought that the narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life.

Title: Wire
Author: Anne Conley
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Age: New Adult and up
Is This Book Part of a Series?: Yes (Book #2 of the Pierce Securities series)

*I received an unedited Advanced Reading Copy version of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I also have chosen not comment on or include typos and such in my review or rating.

Summary:
Evan Rocco is a skilled hacker, an AI expert, and a member of the team at Pierce Securities. Paige Lawson is the CEO of gaming software company PSL. When PSL’s game Realm of Worlds character The Crimson Lady begins brainwashing teenagers into attacking real life people, Evan and Paige have to team up in order to save Paige’s company and the people of Austin. But will their one-night stand from six months earlier get in their way?

Overall Impression:
This book appeals to the geek in me, and the fact that the “star” of Paige’s company is based off of fairy tales appeals to the writer in me. The characters are fun and well-matched as a couple. The bad guy is suitably slimy. In other words, it was worth the read and had some great qualities.

The Nitty Gritty:
This book opens up with a bang, featuring Paige–fresh off winning a hostile takeover–prowling a bar looking for a one night stand. She finds it in Evan Rocco, a man she has admired physically and intellectually for years. They have a very hot night of sex, which is well-written, with just enough on-stage action to keep it interesting and just enough off-stage action to keep it from being repetitive. This takes the book from the typical trajectory of the couple fighting their physical interest in each other and shifts it to looking at how the pair can deal with the attraction they admittedly have, while doubting whether or not that is all that the other person feels. It is a small change, but it is a nice one, keeping the romance aspect of this book feeling more fresh and unique than is typically the case. In addition to this, it sets it up so that Evan is already aware of how much he likes Paige. He never really doubts whether or not he has feelings for her. Just whether or not she has feelings for him. And a man being willing to admit to himself that he cares for a woman is a nice change for a romance.

Dialogue was one of the things that stood out for me in this book, for a couple of reasons. When Paige and Evan were talking, I noticed several times that it felt like their scenes seemed a little bit forced feeling, like they were saying what would be expected to be said at that scene, rather than what truly fit them. The thoughts that accompanied these “forced” scenes also seemed to also be on the overly-telling side. Instead of just having the words flying back and forth between Paige and Evan, there were pauses to share their thoughts. Thoughts that were really rather redundant based on the actions that were accompanying their dialogue. It wasn’t horrible, by any means, but it was certainly noticeable. Especially when you put it next to the very smooth, well-written dialogue that exists between Evan and the other employees at Pierce Securities. Those scenes were downright good. I fell right into them and could easily picture the scene, actions, and the individual, unique characters that were interacting.

As for the suspense aspect of this book, there were some positives and negatives both. First, I saw the bad guy coming a little sooner than I would have liked. (In other words, I figured things out sooner than I wanted). This in and of itself isn’t that unusual for me, however. My biggest issue with this is that Evan, who is in the securities business, had such a hard time seeing the truth. I could get behind the idea that perhaps he was too wrapped up in figuring out his relationship with Paige, but that only allows him a certain amount of slack. And I feel like he stayed in the dark a bit longer than is truly realistic. (Not that I have ever been in a “real” mystery myself, of course, so perhaps it is accurate. How it feels, however, is that Evan is a bit on the slow side). The saving grace here is the tension. Despite knowing, more or less, who the bad guy was and how he was enacting his plans, I was still tense over the idea of whether or not Evan and Paige would win in the end. Who knows? Perhaps Evan being slow to catch on even added to the tension. Either way, this was a suspenseful books and gets good marks for that, even if there are things I wish were different.

My Rating: 4 Stars
The writing is solid, the story is solid, and I found it to be an enjoyable read over all. I would like to go back to read Ryan’s story (Craze, Pierce Securities book 1) and plan on following this series to its conclusion, however many books that may be.

~~~~~~~~~~Dee's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Wow! This story has it all: incredible plot, web of intrigue, brilliant mystery and intense passion. Everything centers around the gaming world. All the information about the game programming and how it was manipulated to lead foolish kids to commit murder was so realistic the reader will understand the technicalities without being a geek. We are given brief glimpses into the criminal's mind without betraying his identity. Evan's job is complicated by Paige being so naive and not believing she is in danger. As clues begin to fit the pieces together, it is exciting to figure out the mastermind behind The Crimson Lady just before Evan figures it out. The final scene wrapping up the story is so filled with action, suspense, excitement and thrills, it will blow your mind. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars!
~~~~~~~~~~Lindsey's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~

Anne Conley really knows how to write romantic suspense. Wire, the second novel in a suspenseful romantic series, tells the story from the point of view of another of her alpha male characters and the woman he loves. It was engrossing, intense and passionate. I definitely want to read the other books in this series as well as the other books by this author.

~~~~~~~~~~Sharlene's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Wire is the second installment of the Pierce Securities series and focuses on Paige and Evan. Paige has idolized Evan for years even though they have never met. They end of working together in Paige's company to stop a gamer from interfering with Paige's gaming company. The feel I got from this book was more of a suspenseful crime book rather than a contemporary romance. It definitely had romantic components to it but it focused more on the gamer causing trouble than it did on the couple. Not necessarily a bad thing as long as that's what you're looking for. I also didn't feel like the characters were developed very well. You get to see hints and glimpses of their pasts but nothing that fully describes where they are both coming from. The sexual chemistry between the two is very hot. Although there is not a ton of sexual scenes in the book, the ones that are there are well written. The author has certainly done her homework with gaming and coding which I felt added to the storyline. The scenery descriptions were done pretty well.
Even though it is part of a series, this can be read as a stand alone and does have an HEA.
ORGINALLY POSTED AT DJ'S BOOK CORNER
I will start this review off by saying that I didn't like Wire as much as its predecessor Craze, but it was still a very good book that was well written and filled with my favorite element–humor.
Evan and Paige were both great characters to follow. Like most romance MCs, they kicked off their inevitable romance with a nice period of avoidance due to a previous sexual encounter that didn't end so well. This only made the book more fun to read and I enjoyed watching them get over themselves and just go with it. I loved that Evan was the piner and not Paige. That was a nice change of pace. She wanted to act like they never hooked up and he was all for doing it again. And again and again. Most of the time the women are the ones that are longing for something more, and though Paige does have the hots for Evan, she has her own reasons for wanting nothing more to do with him. Her reasons suck if you ask me, but hey, whatever. Do your thing, Paige.
I really enjoyed the video game aspect of this book and how the crime was perpetrated using a video game to get people to commit murder. It was a well thought out plot and though I figured out the culprit way before the characters did, that didn't take away from me enjoying the book because there were details about the crimes that I couldn't have guessed if I tried. So that was a good thing. I also loved that Paige was the CEO of the gaming company and represented strong female characters that don't need some knight in shining armor to save the day. Maybe they could use a partner in crime, but they don't need a savior. Evan definitely came through for Paige in this book, but only because he was the expert she needed to get the job done right. We need more characters like Paige in romance books.
The other guys in Pierce Securities weren't as big a part of this book as they were in Craze, and I would have loved to see more of them. When they get together on the same page, it's nonstop laughs and I just love a book that can make me laugh. I'm really eager to read the next book in the series and get more of these men!
Definitely a thumbs up here. Wire is a fast read that gives you as much romance as suspense. You'll enjoy the plot and the characters and will be just as grabby hands as me for the next book when you're done. So yes, this book is most certainly worth a read!
*****ARC provided in exchange for an honest review for Beyond the Valley of the Books Blog*****
I didn’t think Anne could out do herself when I read Saving Charlie but then, she gave us the first book in the Pierce Security Series. I was blown away with a team of sexy misfit men, who can’t seem to work for others so they formed a security team with Simon in charge. I fell in love with this team in the first book Craze but WOW; she turns up the heat and raises the bar in Wire.
Anne takes on the unique world of video gaming and creates a mystery full of suspense, drama and love. Paige runs her own gaming company and one night while at a bar, she runs into her dream man. She has known about Evan for a long time. She has watched his tech reputation suffer in the social eye, but he is the sexiest man she has ever known. Imagine her surprise when he invites her to spend one night with him? Quietly leaving the next morning before he woke up, she checks this off her bucket list and goes back to business. There is no way he will ever find her, she used a fake name but will she ever get him out of her memory and heart?
Evan woke up alone, how could she leave after the night they had. Trying to erase that passion filled night from his brain for weeks; he takes on a new job with Pierce security. This job should be a breeze for this man with his training and intelligence, but there is one problem. The woman he has been trying to forget is now his new boss, Paige. He is determined to get more answers than who is trying to sabotage her company; he wants to know why she used a fake name and why she left.
Anne does a great job as usual with the love and hot scenes, these two were meant to be together yet neither of them is ready to jump in head first. What I loved most about this book was the gaming theme and the huge mystery revolving the video game that is causing people to die. I have never read a book with this angle and I really enjoyed it.
As with all of Anne’s books, you can expect an intense character driven book, which will read smoothly and draw you in early. You don’t have to read Craze first to enjoy Wire but I strongly suggest you begin at the beginning of the series and get to know the guys at Pierce Securities. They all have their own story and struggles and each is a new breed of sexiness in the Indie world.
Evan is the hottest geek on the planet. Paige is the CEO of the company that designed the hottest Role Playing Game to ever cross the Internet. One night. Two strangers. A fake name. Hot as hell.
Months later Ryan, now the resident hacker for Pierce Securities is hired by Paige to find out who is infiltrating her game and using a character to harm innocent people.
In tangled web of lies, betrayals, sordid pasts and fatal attractions Wire is a fast paced suspense that will keep you wondering who done it and just when you think you know, another twist, another player and a lot of WTF enters your mind.
The plot was so unique. I am not a gamer, in fact I am a computer putz, however, Anne Conely did a great job in explaining things in a way that was not only intriguing but also didn't make me feel stupid.
The cast of characters were completely awesome from the main players to the secondary ones. Even the villains were interesting. I loved that we got to see what was going with Ryan and Krista from book one and the other Pierce Securities guys. Nice set ups for future books!
Evan Rocco..........dibs!!!!! Not only is he hot, he's alpha, a fierce protector and so intelligent! His brain is sexy lol Paige was great! At some points I felt her to be a little too naive, however, she had such an amazing heart and a desire to see the good in everyone, it was easy to get past that. When Evan and Paige get together......things will burn down to smoldering embers.....yes it was that hot.
I enjoyed the first book, Craze but Wire....blew it out of the water! The writing, even though third person, was flawless. I was sucked right in from the first sentence and actually read this book in just a few hours I couldn't put it down. I connected and felt and was submersed into an unfamiliar world and never wanted to leave which is exactly what fiction should do! I give this 5 stars.
This is a new-ish author for me but won me over with book one in this series. I am a sucker for romantic suspense. I love the action, drama, suspense and steam that comes with this genre. It has a way of drawing you in and wrapping itself around you, only letting go when everything is settled.
I really liked this book. I loved book one in this series and looked forward to this one. This author crafted an amazing love story that will keep you on your toes until the end. It has lots of twists and turns along the way to keep you guessing. This book was also sweet, sexy, and with a side of humor.
This is Evan and Paige's story. After one unforgettable night, Paige and Evan find themselves face to face again. The chemistry is hotter than ever and the spark is still flaming. But now the circumstances are challenging and obstacles stand in the way. Can Evan solve the mystery and find love?
Get ready for a sexy and geeky chase to solve the mystery and fall in love. Evan will make you swoon with his alpha ways, nerdy personality, and tender heart. Paige will make you smile and you'll root for her. I fell in love with both of them along the way. And the steam is crazy hot and sizzling!
I recommend this book and series.
I am a gamer (at least that's what I say to myself), so I was pretty excited about reading this book. Both Evan and Paige are involved in the gaming world, and so does the killer of this story who uses a character from a game named Crimson Lady to convince some people to harm others. Paige hires the firm Evan works for to find the identity of the person who uses Crimson Lady and save her company and they have a chance to develop the feelings that started to be created from their one night stand several months ago.
I don't know if it was me or the author, but I felt that she gave clues about the killer during the story and it didn't come as a shock to me in the end. From now on I will use a he when I refer to the killer, but that doesn't mean that the killer is a man. (And yes, I am going stereotypical here and choose the killer to be man in my review). I will use it to make things easier for me. I knew who the killer was from the moment I read his name. And to add to the injury the pieces of the puzzle fell into place as soon as I had them, while Evan couldn't put two and two together making him a not so smart cookie in my eyes. I was expecting more from a gamer.
I am going to follow the series. I can see Zack and Bonnie ending up together. There is something between Quinten and Miriam and I would like to see what that something is.
Title: WIRE
Series: Pierce Securities #2
Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance, Suspense
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content
Received from: Anne Conley (in exchange for an honest review)
Grammar/editing: ungraded – book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused
This is the second book in the Pierce Securities series. So far each stands on their own, but I always recommend reading all and in order (especially when it is from Anne Conley).
This series is Anne Conley’s best work yet. Very well researched, it provides edge of your seat suspense with an intense undercurrent of love, lust, and desire. The characters are as extremely well developed as the story.
I loved Krista and Ryan in CRAZE. I thought, “This is Anne’s best.” Now, she has surpassed herself. It helps that Evan and Paige are geeky; I can relate to that personality quirk very well. There was a lot of fun and flirting, including a nod to Dr. Who (hello, my fellow Whovians!) I must mention that Evan may be nerdy, but he is a hunky protective nerd – rawrrrr!!
Please, Anne, do not end this series, EVER!! I want all of the HEAs, of course, but I can’t wait to find out what the story is with Simon. I know it has been given in brief, but there must be so much more.
The story has laughs, pain, secrets, murder, suspense, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Craze (Pierce Securities, #1)
This is Paige and Evan’s story. Evan has been Paige’s hero for a long time. When she comes across him one night and has the chance to be with him that night she takes it. She expects to never see him again but months later he is the one man she needs to help her with her business issues. Now can they keep everything professional while they figure out who is messing with her company and causing people to die? The closer they get to the killer the closer the killer gets to Paige as she would have to be the last kill. Can Evan and Paige solve the puzzle before the killer gets her in their sights? Will Evan be able to save the day and get the woman he knows he wants forever? Or is it all over for the both of them?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book, can’t wait for the next story in this series.
Awesome continuation. The men of pierce securities are hot hot hot!
Although they have a job to do they always seem to fall for the woman they are protecting. Evan meets Paige in a bar, she knows who he is and wants to spend one night with him to cross it off her bucket list. She gives him a fake name and leaves in the morning before he wakes up so he has no way of tracking her down. 6 months later a case comes In and the client specifically asks for Evan to handle the case. Guess who Evan runs into while working in this new case???
I really love this series! Anne can't write them fast enough to satisfy my need for these hot guys! LoL
Received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. My honest opinion is get your copy now!!! You will not be disappointed!!
Handsome, smart, and incredibly HOT!! What an perfect combination for Evan freaking Rocco. Paige totally fan worships Evan, even as a young student she was totally obsessed. When the chance at having a hot night with her Idol, she jumps at it even knowing that she'll have to leave him not even knowing who she really is. Months later, never forgetting that incredible night, Evan gets a job that will forever change his life, and SHE is the one who hires him. Together they must work to figure out the mystery of The Crimson Lady and her faithful followers, and why she's targeting Paige. This story was great and one can never help but fall in love with the Geek, but in this case Evan Rocco has many many more attributes than that of a brilliant mind.
I love that there is so much plot included in every single one of the Pierce Securities books. Not only to you get the story of Evan and Paige, but you also get the suspense, drama, and intrigue that goes along with them as they discover who and why the software company is being targeted and sabotaged. It was wonderful to see a hero who was alpha and geeky all at the same time. The best guys have brains attached to all that beauty after all and Anne delivers that with Evan and all of her Pierce Securities men. I am looking forward to jumping into the third book in this series as soon as I possibly can!
Murder, mystery, mayhem and love, "Wire" contains all these elements. Well written, great characters, I really liked it. Paige is CEO of her own gaming software company and the Crimson Lady is out to destroy her company. Paige hires hot, Evan Rocca, a computer genius, who works for Pierce Security, to help her find this Crimson Lady. Deaths are occurring, all over Austin, all blamed on Paige's top game. The countdown deaths have begun, with Paige's name on the top of that list. Well worth the read!!
This is the follow up to Conley's first book in the Pierce Security Series, Craze. I couldn't put down the first book and thought the second was just as good. I felt Evan's character was briefly touched upon in the past, but had it brought out a lot more in this book which helped to understand him and his past. He is still a bit of a mystery but the chemistry between he and Paige was undeniably intense. I loved the way the first met at the beginning of the book. Not many guys are used for a one night stand. To see that in a book set the tone for an interesting take on finding romance.
Another great book in this series!
This one was just as loaded with "real" people and a plot that keeps you as hooked as the first book did. There were plenty of sexy times and hotness but so much more than just that as well. Wire is more on the geeky side but trust me, that's definitely a good thing in this case! I am super excited for this next book (coming September I think - soon!) and can't wait until it comes out so I can get lost in it! :)
Book 2 of Pierce Securities we get to learn a bit more about the Nerdy Evan. He is hot, loyal, smart, sexy and of course ALPHA! You can read these as standalone books however why would you want to skip any form of Alpha goodness? Simon the head of Pierce Securities has ONE RULE don't date the Client, Ryan in book 1 didn't follow that rule very well, and now Evan is pushing the "client" title to the limit. However Simon seems to just want his men happy and seems to turn his head.. The real question is who will book 3 be about and can they follow the rule?
Awesome addition to the series! Evan Rocco is AMAZING! Ok got that out of my system, this book is my favorite! Evan and Paige are a couple of nerds so am all for that. Hot, smart and sexy nerds? Sold! I was caught up in the book and forgot to go to bed on time like I was supposed to, that should tell you all you need to know. Exciting as you can expect from Conley! Can't wait for the next one. I voluntarily reviewed an 'Advance Author’s Copy' of this book.
It's a fantasy a supposed one night stand that neither can get out of their mind. Months later the gamer turns out to be the white knight and helps to solve a mystery that saves lives and his relationship.
